Three Is Enough A Campaign to Fight an Increased Number of Casinos in Delaware According to recent polling data, Delaware residents across all demographic groups oppose adding more casinos in the state. Sixty-nine percent of Delaware residents think there should be three or fewer casinos in the state. The Three Is Enough campaign is rooted in this strong existing public belief. While gaming is here to stay in Delaware, the expansion of the number of gaming venues is not supported by the majority of citizens polled. Background: According to the non-partisan Delaware Economic and Financial Advisory Council, the state faces an $80 million budget deficit. The legislature is faced with multiple proposals for new gaming venues. The gaming and racing industry recently commissioned a poll to better understand public opinion on this possible expansion of gaming. Only 25% of Delaware residents polled thought there should be 4 or more casinos in the state (6% are undecided). Key Points: The majority of Delaware residents agree that the three existing casinos are enough and oppose new casinos. Additional gaming venues will increase demands on taxpayer-supported services and infrastructure. As seen in nearby Atlantic City, unrestricted casino growth doesn' t solve a city’s problems or a state's budget woes. There is no reason to believe that additional casinos will significantly increase gaming revenue in the state of Delaware. The state legislature can and should make better choices to solve the budget challenge. Three Is Enough: The Three Is Enough Campaign is comprised of a variety of Delaware-based interests including Delaware Park, Dover Downs, Harrington Raceway, the related Horsemen groups, and other community organizations and businesses.
