Lady Kats lost an NCC game to Anderson 75-38.

Anderson made six three-pointers in the first quarter as the Lady Kats

were trying to make the Lady Tribe hit the three-ball and they did at an

uncharacteristic high rate!

Anderson also hurt the Lady Kats bad on rebounds; Anderson collected

16 first half offensive rebounds.

Kokomo was led by Chloe McClain’s 14 points and six rebounds.

Brooke Hughes played a nice game coming off the bench for six points

and three rebounds.

We need to work on handling the basketball under pressure and

continue to get better defensively heading into our next game with

Lafayette Jeff, who we host December 4th with 6:00 p.m. JV tip at

Memorial Gym.

The Kokomo Wildkats lost to the visiting Westfield Shamrocks 68-50 on Saturday night at

Memorial Gymnasium.

A 20-8 third quarter was too much to overcome for the Kats, as they lost their first game of

the year and fell to 1-1.

Westfield is a good team and in stretches of the game, the Kats outplayed them.

Unfortunately, defensive laps, ball-handling miscues, and some quick shot selection about

halfway through the third quarter allowed the Shamrocks to get on a run that our Kats could

not recover from.

Leading the way for the Kats was sophomore guard Bobby Wonnell with 13 points, three

steals and two rebounds. Senior Savion Barrett added 12 points and five rebounds, and

junior Jackson Richards had five points, four rebounds, and three assists. Junior Rajon

Sellers added eight points and three rebounds.

The Kats are back in action on Friday for our third consecutive home game to start the year.

We will play Peru. The JV will start at 6:00 p.m., and the varsity will be at 7:30 PM. Come

out and support your Wildkats!!!

Hope to see you at Memorial Gymnasium on Friday! Go Kats!!!

The Lady Kats opened their North Central Conference play with a 75-38 loss to the Indians of

Anderson High School.

Anderson scored the first six points of the game and led 18-10 after one quarter. The Lady Tribe

had a 20-point cushion at halftime (36-16) and were ahead 58-25 at the end of the third quarter.

The Indians shot very well from long distance. They took 24 shots from behind the arc and made

11 of them.

Kokomo had a season low 36 shots from the field.

In building their significant halftime lead, the Lady Tribe shot 58.3% from the field in the first 16

minutes of play.

The Anderson bench contributed 20 points to 10 for the Lady Kat reserves.

Kokomo had a season high 34 turnovers in the game, which Anderson turned into 35 points.

Anderson also won the battle of the boards, claiming 43 rebounds to 32 for the Lady Kats. But, the

Lady Kats had a season high of 26 defensive rebounds.

The Lady Tribe led from start to finish, so there were no lead changes and no ties in the game.

The Indians largest lead was at game’s end when they were ahead by 37. The 37-point loss was the

biggest this season. A year ago, the Lady Kats lost by 39, 41, 52, and 58 points. The 79-21 loss at

Carmel was the most lopsided loss in KHS girls basketball history.

Kokomo kept with Anderson in scoring in the lane. The Indians had 26 points in the paint to 22 for

the Wildkats.

The Lady Kats had just six steals against Anderson, their fewest in a game this year.

Anderson had four players in double figures, headed by the 17 points of Tyra Ford. Ford also had

six rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

Chloe McClain led Kokomo in scoring with 14. It was the fourth time in five games that the

sophomore topped the team in points.

The Lady Kat JV team ran their record to 3-0 with a 25-22 win over Anderson. Omarea Daniels

had 10 points to pace the young Kats.

There were six lead changes and six ties in the boys basketball game between Kokomo

and Westfield on Saturday night.

The KHS-Westfield game was the season opener for the Shamrocks.

The ‘Rocks made 10 three-pointers in the game. There were two teams who connected on

more than 10 last season. Tipton had 13, and Lafayette Jeff hit for 14. Westfield had

exactly twice as many three-pointers as did the Kats.

Kokomo committed just seven fouls in the game, and, therefore, Westfield had only four

chances from the free throw line, where they made two.

The Wildkats did a nice job from the charity stripe, hitting nine of their eleven

opportunities.

The Kats shot just 36% from the field for the game. In the second half, Kokomo made

seven of 30 shots for 23.3%.

The turnovers in the Kokomo-Westfield game were close. The Wildkats had 14, while the

Shamrocks had 12.

In the points off turnovers category, Westfield had nine, while the Wildkats registered 11.

The bench points were close, too. Westfield had 15 points from their non-starters and

Kokomo had 13 from their reserves.

The ‘Rocks had an advantage in the paint, scoring 32 points to 24 for the Wildkats.

Braden Smith was a scoring thorn in Kokomo’s side all evening. Only a sophomore, he

scored 13 points in the first half, and then poured in 23 after intermission to finish with 35.

The most any player scored against Kokomo a year ago was Will Penny from Logansport,

who tallied 32. Smith made seven of his 15 three-point attempts, grabbed a team high ten

rebounds to complete his double-double and also added five assists and two steals.

Two other Westfield players scored in double figures with Benji Welch and Nick

DePasquale both accounting for 10 points.

Westfield also won the JV game, outscoring the Kats 57-30.

Jackson Richards, a junior on the Wildkat boys basketball team, scored a career high

of 20 points in Kokomo’s season opening 55-50 win over county rival Western.

Richards’s previous best was 17, which he scored twice last season, once against

Anderson and the other against Fort Wayne Northrop.
