A mans value to the defense can be determined by his distance from the ball when the whistle is blown!!

  • PLAY HARD, FAST, AND FREE!!CREATETURNOVERS

  • Eight Ways to Force Fumbles

  • 1) Contact football on the ball.

  • Always attempt to rip, pull, or punch it out.

  • This is a good position to be in as a tackler and you can often pop the ball loose. Remember, see what you hit. Do Not hit with the top of your helmet.

  • 2) If you are second or third man in on tackle, go for the strip after contact.

  • 3) When chasing a ball carrier from behind grab him by the back neck of the jersey following with a quick uppercut or tomahawk punch with hand nearest his ball carrying arm.

  • Punch the ball loose with a strike that comes into his body, not away. Pull runner down to ensure tackle or so he cant get the ball. Our teammates hustling in pursuit will scoop up or recover the fumble you have created.

  • 4) If you are second or third man in on a tackle from behind attack the ball carriers elbow. If you can rip his elbow out form his body the ball will be exposed or he will lose control of it. Especially during practice, force runners to secure ball!

  • 5) When rushing the QB always look for the opportunity to go for the LT Strip.

  • The QB is often the worst ball handler on the field, we must take advantage of this. If he only holds the ball with one hand (as most QBs often do) it is more likely that we can slap it out as we make the hit.

  • 6) Know your opponent. Do they protect the ball well? What arm does the running back normally carry the ball in? Does he like to cut back? -If so we can often get a face mask hit on the ball as he cuts back against the grain. Does his ball carrying elbow get away from his ribs? If so we can often punch it out. Take advantage of these factors.

  • The more collisions on the ball carrier from different angles the more chances the ball will come pop out. The quicker we get to the ball carrier (BC) and gang tackle the more chances we will get to rip it out. If runners do not go down quickly we will punish them and strip them of the ball.

  • LBs and DBs. Always try to strip receivers of the ball, especially right after the catch.

  • The closer the collision is after the catch the more likely you can rip it out. If you cant knock down or intercept the pass you must ensure the tackle while always being aware of and actively going for the strip. Create turnovers.

  • REMEMBER---One of our most important goals is to get the ball back to our offense. Scoop and scoreRecover the ball

  • GG101020203030E N EB M BD NFS CCCOACHThe coach will simulate a snap. On the snap the DEFENSE will execute their assignment. This drill can be used as a review of stunts, blitzes and coverages. The coach will take a pass drop. Anyone who is a rusher, will execute their assignment, but do not get past heels of OL. Keep feet chopping until ball is thrown.Players who have coverage will execute perfect pass drops. When ball is thrown, all 11 players will RUN to the receiver and chop their feet until the whistle blows. On the whistle the players will RUN back to the huddle, get a call, and immediately get lined up. (The nose is responsible to bring the ball to the coach each time.) If there are no mistakes or loafs, we will 3 in a row with each group (3 and out!).Passing Pursuit Drill- Each box represents a receiver.

Defensive players will SPRINT to their cone! Once there, chop feet until whistle is blown. On whistle, all players will perform an up down. Hit the ground and get up sprinting to the coach in the end zone. Chop feet, break it down, get back in huddle.Running Pursuit Drill
