Reflecting PoolTo promote a healthy lifestyle, a continuous path of pedestrian travel provides citizens downtown with a place to exercise, safe from the obstructions and distractions of city life.

Located at the end of kc8, a shallow pool reflects the surrounding buildings, and in winter months can be frozen into a public ice rink.

To create a strong connection to the ground, elongated stairs hugged by ramps touch down along the adjacent parking lots, providing direct access and space for activities.

By incorporating elements such as trees, open fields, and seating, kc8 allows users to reconnect with nature, creating space for leisure and play.

SHAWNEE HEIGHTS HS AUDITORIUMHTK Architects Topeka, KSAcademic Internship • Spring and Summer 2013

During my 30-week internship for HTK Architects I was involved in the entire design process of four major public bond referendums. The largest project in budget and scale was a new high school auditorium addition for Shawnee Heights USD 450.

Schematic drawings and renderings of the high school are shown above and to the right.

Bids have been accepted for the high school roof replacement on the south wing, and for the locker room locker and bleacher replacement in the SHHS main gym. Both of these bids came in under estimates. Other internship work included a cafeteria addition at Shawnee Heights Elementary School, Tecumseh North Elementary School office renovation, change orders for the Chester E. Peters Recreation Complex at Kansas State University, and another cafeteria addition, classroom expansion and office renovation at Berryton Elementary School.
