World Green Roof Infrastructure Network (WGIN), International Rooftop
Landscaping Association (IRLA) and Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government.
In March, we held our press conference and launching ceremony at Beijing
Diaoyutai State Guesthouse and Beijing International Conference Center,
respectively, calling for provinces and cities in China to participate in our congress.
The World Green Roof Congress (WGRC) builds a friendly public platform for elites
both from the Vertical Planting industry around the world and from other industries
who share concerns for global environmental protection, to exchange information of
new concepts, technologies and policies of ecological environmental protection as
well as to promote the development of the Green Roof industry in all countries, thus
contributing to tackling global warming, building ecological, low-carbon and livable
cities, curbing PM 2.5 (windblown soil particles 2.5 micrometers in size), and solving
the conflict between humans and land.
Join us for this unique and exciting congress in Hangzhou, China! Experience
world-renown industry speakers and dignitaries leading ten forums and
opportunities to visit once in a lifetime greenroof and wall projects as well as tour
iconic Chinese cities, monumental attractions, and important historical and cultural

Hangzhou, China, via HANGZHOU.GOV.CN
Hangzhou has enjoyed a history of over 2,200 years since the county administration
was established in Qin Dynasty. It is one of the cradles of the Huaxia (China)
Civilization. The Kuahuqiao Ruins show that there were human beings living in the
Hangzhou area as early as 8,000 years ago. The Liangzhu Culture, over 5,000 years
ago, was known as "the Dawn of Civilization."
Hangzhou, one of the seven ancient capitals of China, was the capital of Wuyue State
of the Five-Dynasties and also the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty. In the 13th
century, the Italian traveler Marco Polo admired Hangzhou as "the Most Splendid
and Luxurious City in the World." Hangzhou was called Qiantang in ancient
time. In the ninth year of Kaihuang of Sui Dynasty (589, Hangzhou was founded to
replace the original Qiantang County and the name of Hangzhou was recorded for
the first time in history.
In the first year of the Republic of China (1912), the original Qiantang County and
Renhe County were merged into Hangzhou County. In the 16th year of the Republic
of China (1927), Hangzhou County was dismantled and Hangzhou was founded as a
city. It was on May 3, 1949 when Hangzhou was liberated that it began to write its
new chapter of development in history.

Forbidden City, and also a symbol of the nation and an image of China projected not
just on banknotes, coins and stamps, but worldwide.
The Forbidden City
The Forbidden City was the Chinese imperial palace from the Ming Dynasty to
the Qing Dynasty. It is located in the middle of Beijing, and now houses the Palace
Museum. For almost 500 years, it served as the home of emperors and their
households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of Chinese Government.
Lunch
Beihai Park
After lunch we will go visit Beihai Park. Situated in the Xicheng District, Baihai
Park has a history of more than 1,000 years. This park was built up through five

(1368-1644) and the Qing (1644-1911). Though it was a royal garden, it remains
grand with a hint of exquisite elegance as well. It covers an area of 69 hectares (171
acres), with over a half covered by water. The whole park can be divided into four
scenic areas: Qionghua Islet (Jade Flower Islet), Circular City, the eastern bank area,
and the northern bank area.

The Great Wall
After breakfast we start off to visit the Great Wall, one of the greatest wonders of
the world, which was listed as a World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a
gigantic dragon, the Great Wall winds up and down across deserts, grasslands,
mountains and plateaus, stretching approximately 8,851.8 kilometers (5,500 miles)
from east to west of China. With a history of more than 2000 years, some of the
sections are now in ruins or have disappeared. However, it is still one of the most
appealing attractions all around the world owing to its architectural grandeur and
historical significance.
Then we will go have lunch and drive to the Ming Tombs. The Ming Dynasty from
1368 to 1644 had 16 emperors. Thirteen of them were buried in Beijing. So their
tombs are called Ming Tombs. Through the 5,000 years of Chinese history many
emperors left after them large or small tombs, but the Ming Tombs are well
preserved today. A Chinese imperial mausoleum usually consists of two parts, the
divine road and the burial palace. The marble archway, or paifang, is the beginning
of the divine road and of the whole Ming Tombs. This carved archway is the largest
existent one in China. It bears patterns of clouds and dragons, which is a
characteristic of imperial architecture. The divine road is a passage in front of the
tombs to facilitate the sacrificial ceremonies.
The Bird Nest
On our way back to the city, we will take a look at the Olympic Park, Bird Nest
and the Water Cube.
The Water Cube
At night, we will relax ourselves at the Sanlitun Bar Street.
End of Day Five.
Day Six: Beijing

Half Day Tour: Visit the Summer Palace (2 hours), Beijing Botanical Garden
The Summer Palace

China, the Summer Palace. More than 100 examples of traditional architecture
are to be found in the park, including pavilions, terraces, temples, pagodas,
waterside gazebos, covered corridors, stone bridges and the famous marble boat. In
December 1998, UNESCO included the Summer Palace on its World Heritage
List. It declared the Summer Palace an "outstanding expression of the creative art
of Chinese Landscape Garden Design, incorporating the works of humankind and
nature in a harmonious whole."
Beijing Botanical Garden
Two hours later, we will go to the last stop of this tour, the Beijing Botanical
Garden. Lying at the foot of the West Hill of Beijing, it has by tradition been
