My somewhat cheeky welcome of Glenferrie members to our meeting at their club was received with good humour. We were well received, and I believe sets up a good vibe for future repetitions of this activity. Another good benefit is the confidence joint meetings create to invite high profile speakers where we should be able to provide an audience of 30 or more members and guests. We were well received and invited to ‘do it again’! So we should. Be back to normal next week with a guest speaker and the following week is the return of the Oaks Eve Calcutta to Yarra Bend. This is also an excellent opportunity to invite people who just might be interested in becoming involved, in some capacity, with our Club. We have inducted one new member this year, a couple of potentials in the pipeline so let’s increase the head of steam by bringing more people to our events, functions and community activities. Update from the Bright Futures Community Centre in Nepal

Yarra Bend Rotary’s Director – International, Isabel Armer contines her stay in Nepal where she spends several

monbths each year supporting the Bright Futures Community Centre. This year she has been joined in Nepal by her

brother Bruce Van Every, who was a former President of Kew on Yarra Rotary. Bruce is going with Netra and Isabel to

Kangel in early November Bruce has already donated quite a bit of money to help the local schools and wants to see

what else can be done. He will also help Isabel assess the Yarra bend project in Kangel. Netra says work has also

begun on the renovation of the building for the Computer Centre. Isabel intends to inspect the schools in the the next

week or so. At some stage the plan is to run a health program for the girls.

before heading off on the trek (bus to Pokhara and then trekking).

Pictured above - students celebrate three days of the Hindu Tihar Festival on the street outside the Bright Futures

Community Centre in Katmandhu. It is the Nepalese festival of lights and shows reverence to humans and the gods,

but also to the animals that maintain an intimate relationship with humans.
