New to Ohlone? If you are new to Ohlone or did not teach in Spring 2020, please be sure to sign up for your “Ohlone” Zoom account supported by the Chancellor’s office. This Zoom account is the only one that will link with ConferZoom in Canvas. We are starting to see more Zoom bombers this week especially when meeting links are posted and not password protected. ConferZoom adds some strength to the Zoom password for enhanced security. Let me know if you want to check your account.

Software Upgrades We’ve noticed several software upgrades this week. Be sure that you upgrade your software and devices for the best user experience:

• Zoom – latest version 5.1.2 • Google Chrome – update to be compatible with latest Canvas updates. • ConferZoom – you may notice that you leave Canvas when you click “ConferZoom”

Putting the Pieces Together Are you getting some pieces together in your Canvas shell? If you have not attended a training session in July, you may not have heard that we have an Ohlone template that includes an Orientation and general course module. We are happy to make a copy of the template for you to edit and then copy into your courses. If you’d like a template, send an email message to eCampus with a request for the Ohlone Canvas template.

Sample Communications in the Works We’re putting the final edits on sample syllabus language for synchronous and asynchronous classes, and a Welcome letter for all your students, including waitlisted students. Next week’s focus will be syllabi – from suggested language promote equity to using the syllabus feature in Canvas. Attend MITI sessions to enter your name in this week’s prize drawing for: 30 minutes of eCampus team member’s time to make your syllabus accessible, put it on Canvas, or translate the policies into student-friendly language - your choice.

Join the Humanizing Challenge @ONE, the Online Network or Educators is providing a 3-Day Humanizing Challenge that will “equip you with knowledge of culturally responsive pedagogy and online teaching practices that will support your students who are experiencing trauma as a result of racial injustice, stereotyping, and other forms of marginalization.” Details and instructions for registration are available on the @ONE website. Are you up to the challenge?

See you online.
