Catechetical Corner Saint Didacus de Acala
Feast Day: November 13th
St. Didacus, better known as Saint Diego, is the patron saint of our beautiful city, San Diego!
As a young man in Spain, Didacus joined the Franciscan friars where he developed a reputation for great insight into God’s ways and heroic penances. His intense generosity for the poor caused the other friars to grow uneasy about his charity.
In 1450, he was sent to Rome to attend the canonization of Saint Bernardine of Siena. When many of the friars gathered for the celebration fell ill, Didacus stayed in Rome for three months to nurse them. After he returned to Spain, he pursued a life of full-time contemplation. He showed the friars the wisdom of God’s ways.
As he was dying, Didacus looked at a crucifix and said: “O faithful wood, O precious nails! You have borne an exceedingly sweet burden, for you have been judged worthy to bear the Lord and King of heaven.”

Update from FOCUS Ministry
Hello Parish Family! Thank you for your ongoing prayers and investment in my mission
work with FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students). Since arriving at the
University of South Dakota, I have been blessed with an outpouring of love and support
from my teammates, the Campus Ministry staff, and the students. This year I am honored to be working with the female athletic teams, a
niche on campus where living out your Catholic faith can feel particularly isolating.
My role as a missionary includes meeting students “where they are at” with their faith
and getting to know them on an individual level. I do this by leading bible studies,
teaching Catholic doctrine through mentorship, and attending Mass and adoration with them. It is an honor to have your support;
it is what allows me to be available to the students. Know that you are making a
difference in so many lives. God Bless, Christine Cremer [email protected]
Baptism Baptisms are a communal Sacrament held on the 4th Sunday of each month after the 11:00am Mass. Deacon John Fanelle performs all of the baptisms. Parents are required to be formally registered as parishioners, and be participating members of our community for three months. Attending Mass does not make you registered. You must have completed the registration form. If this is the first child, both parents are required to attend the Baptismal Class. Baptismal classes are held on the first Sunday of each month. Godparents are encouraged to attend the baptismal class, either at our parish or their own parish. For more information, or to schedule a Baptism and/or register for the Baptismal Class, please visit https://sttheresecarmel.org/baptism/. Marriage
All couples wishing to be married at St. Thérèse of Carmel must be formally registered, active and participating members of our parish community for one year before setting a date. Couples are asked to allow six to nine months to complete the marriage preparation program. Please contact the parish office at (858) 481-3232 or email [email protected] to make arrangements.
RCIA Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults RCIA is the process by which the unbaptized are received into the Church through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Unbaptized adults seeking a deeper union with Jesus Christ, through initiation into the Catholic Faith, are cordially invited to consider participation in the RCIA which will begin in the fall. RCIA is also appropriate for Christians from other denominations who seek initiation into the Catholic tradition and for Baptized Catholics who need to finish their sacraments of initiation. Please contact Karen Klause (858) 354-7441 for more information.
