Titans lift record to 5-1 as season winds downThayer Central initiated
its new football fi eld in a big way Friday night as the Titans trounced Superior 52-7 in front of a large hometown crowd.
“I thought our kids played a good overall game,” said Titans coach Josh Lanik. “Sometimes you play an opponent with a record like Superior (0-6) and a team has a letdown, but I though our kids did a nice job preparing for and executing the game plan.”
Scoring started early for Thayer Central as quarterback Caleb Goedeken slipped into the endzone on a one-yard keeper then connected with Greg Dightman on a 55-yard pass for a touchdown to end the first period. Goedeken was also responsible for the PAT on the fi rst score. The quarterback was good for
181 yards on 8-for-11 passes during the contest. Dightman was good for 111 yards on four receipts.
Dalton Kenning opened the second period on a 22-yard run then scored again on a 14-yard run. The senior running back was good for 116 rushing yards on 10 carries during the game. Trev Mumm caught the PAT pass for a couple of points before being on the receiving end of a 14-yard pass from Goedeken for a touchdown. Mumm had a total of 62 yards on three receptions in the contest. The touchdown closed out the period and the fi rst half.
In the third quarter, Goedeken again scored on a keeper for fi ve yards and Jacob Kniep rounded out the period with a 38-yard run for score. Kniep was good for 63 yards
in rushing on the night. Finally in the fourth quarter
after Superior found the end-zone for the fi rst time in the game, Jay Cottam scored for the Titans on a long 54-yard run. Cottam was good for 52 yards on three rushes in the game.
The Titans amassed 298 rushing yards in the contest.
“There are some things we need to get cleaned up,” said Coach Lanik, “but we are continuing to do a nice job of not turning the ball over and forcing teams to drive the length of the fi eld.”
The Titans are currently 5-1 as they look to face the undefeated Mustangs (6-0) at Sutton this Friday. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.

Great offensive line play produced big holes for the run-ning backs. Rushing touch-downs were made by Peyton Dubbert with three, Jackson Feulner with two, Keith Hergott with one and Hunter Healey with one.
The second half kickoff was also returned for a touchdown by Peyton Dubbert. A strong team defense proved too much for Henderson to overcome. The team fi nishes with a fi nal record of 3-2.

The Thayer Central Lady Titans cross country team eked out a win over Milford last week to take the team title at the Southern Nebraska Conference meet held at Cen-tennial. The Titans fi nished with 28 points while Milford scored 29.
“This was a total team effort and I am really proud of all fi ve girls,” said Titans coach Andy Long. “In the last mile of the race, our girls passed a total of 11 runners to move up in their placing and take the fi rst ever conference title in cross country for the district.”

“This is the fi rst the Titans have placed in the top two as a team since Thayer Central won the SNC in 2001,” Coach Long said. “I feel the effort
our boys put forth in the meet-placing four in the top 20-says a lot about how hard they have worked all season. This should give them a tremen-dous amount of confi dence heading into the district meet this week.”
Russ Heitmann led the way for the Titans fi nishing fi fth over all with a time of 17:54.5. Adam Hellbusch followed him in for seventh
place with a time of 18:02.4 while Heath Fink fi nished 17th in a time of 19:19.2 and Ben Baden fi nished 20th in a time of 19:39.9.

Lady Titans lift record to 13-5
The Thayer Central volleyball team collected a couple of wins last week to boost its season record to 13-5.
On Tuesday, the Lady Titans defeated Sutton 25-16, 25-16, 25-12 and on Thursday, defeated Blue Hill 25-23, 25-9, 25-21.
In the contest against Sutton, Coach Kurk Wiedel called it a battle of two rated teams in Class C-2 as well as a Southern Nebraska Conference west division regular season game. “Bridgette Baden and Tarryn Tietjen connected several times as Sutton found it hard to defend both,” the coach said.
Baden ended the game with 16 kills, four ace blocks and four ace serves while Tietjen provided 26 assists in the contest.
Kelsey Long led the back court with 17 digs in the contest.
Against Blue Hill, Coach Wiedel said, “This was a well played game with “spot-on” passing and serving to slow down the No. 9-rated team in class C-2.
“Kelsey Long and Ashley Petersen both served the ball well keeping their all-state player out of system. Add to that the ability to get Bridgette Baden more into the offense was key for us.”
Baden pounded out 20 kills in the contest while Long provided 11. Long also had four ace serves and led in the back court with 15 digs. Baden’s power continued at the net with fi ve ace blocks.
Tarryn Tietjen provided 40 assists in the game.
The Titans are currently ranked 7th in points in Class C-2 according to the Nebraska School Activities Association. The team will head to Superior Thursday, Oct. 11; Wilber-Clatonia, Oct. 16; and to Lincoln Oct. 20 to play in the Lincoln Christian Invitational.

ROADSNOTICE OF HIGHWAY
PUBLIC MEETING 4:00 – 6:00 PM; Tues., Oct

Center; Highway 53 & 5th St., Alexandria, NE
BR-STP-53-1(103) Alex-andria South Bridges; CN 42474
STP-53-1(104) Alexandria South; CN 42533
The Nebraska Department of Roads (NDOR) will hold an open house workshop regard-ing two projects on Nebraska Highway 53 (N-53) through and south of the Village of Al-exandria. The meeting will be held at the Community Center in Alexandria, Tues., Oct. 30, 2012, 4:00-6:00 P.M.
Identified as Project BR-STP-53-1(103) Alexandria South Bridges; Control Number 42474 and Project STP-53-1(104) Alexandria South; Control Number 42533, the proposed projects would be constructed entirely in Thayer County, Nebraska. NDOR is seeking public input regarding the development of these projects.
The Alexandria South project begins at the junction of U.S. Highway 136 (US-136) and N-53. The project proceeds north for about seven miles and would end north of the north corporate limits of Alexandria. Proposed improvements would include resurfacing of the existing highway and in Alexandria, curb ramp improvements to meet Americans with Disabili-ties Act (ADA) standards.
The Alexandria South Bridges project would include replacing the existing bridges at the Little Blue River and the Big Sandy Creek with new wider bridges. NDOR has evaluated various options to replace these bridges; this meeting will present those options. One of the options would require a one to two year detour. Work would also include extension of a box cul-vert at a tributary to Big Sandy Creek, replacing three timber drainage structures south of the Little Blue River.
New right-of-way (ROW) and temporary easement (TE) acquisitions are anticipated at various locations throughout the project area. This may include the relocation of a residence. Wetland impacts are anticipated. The existing N-53 Bridge over the Little Blue River is eligible for placement on the National Register of Historic Places. Public input
is specifically being sought regarding potential impacts to this historic structure. The extent of property, environ-mental and historic impacts will be presented for each option being considered.
The proposed construction is not currently scheduled, but is on the District’s five-year pro-gram. The projects together would take one to two years to construct. The estimated cost of Alexandria South is $1.9 million and Alexandria South Bridges is $5.7 million; final cost estimates will be determined by the construction option(s) chosen.
The project workshop is being held to provide infor-mation regarding the projects and receive public input. All citizens are invited to attend and present relevant com-ments and questions. Project development information will be displayed and personnel from NDOR will be present to answer questions and receive comments. The information “open house” format allows the public to come, gather pertinent information about the project, speak one-on-one with project personnel, and leave as they wish.
NDOR will make every reasonable accommodation to provide an accessible meeting facility for all persons. Appro-priate provisions for the hear-ing and visually challenged or persons with limited English proficiency (LEP) will be made if the Department is notified by Oct. 17, 2012.
Notification and comments should be submitted to: Greg Weinert, Public Hearings Of-ficer, Nebraska Department of Roads, P.O. Box 94759, Lincoln, NE 68509-4759; [email protected]; voice telephone (402) 479-4871, TDD telephone (402) 479-3834, Fax (402) 479-3989.
Information regarding the proposed project will be avail-able after the meeting on the NDOR website at www.trans-portation.nebraska.gov/projects/ by clicking on the “Alexandria” link.
For further information, contact Melissa Egelhoff, NDOR Roadway Design, (402) 479-3842, melissa.egel-hoff@ nebraska.gov; or Wes Wahlgren, NDOR District Four Engineer, (308) 385-6265, [email protected].
