THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE NJTV FOR THE HOLIDAYS DECEMBER 2014 NJTV’s Chief Political Correspondent Michael Aron is back at the helm of his two popular public affairs programs, On the Record and Reporters Roundtable, after a medical leave this fall. The broadcast veteran looks forward to an exciting political season as the 2016 Presidential race takes shape and the truth behind rumors that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will potentially run is revealed. Says Aron of the political news ahead, “Christie remains the compelling political story in New Jersey, but there is plenty else going on, such as funding struggles and early jockeying for the 2017 gubernatorial nominations in both parties. Stay tuned!” Learn more at njtvonline.org We begin the holiday season with Christmas in Harvard Square (Tues. December 9 at 10pm), introducing The Boys of St. Paul’s Choir School and their debut international recording, with both traditional and contemporary seasonal arrangements. Yiddish World Remembered (Thurs. December 11 at 8pm) explores the close-knit and joyous Eastern European Jewish communities, with everything from the fascinating language of Yiddish to powerful Jewish movements of Khasidism, Bundism and Zionism. The National Christmas Tree Lighting 2014 (Sun. December 14 at 9pm) is sure to excite, with the ceremonial lighting of the National Christmas Tree traditionally handled by the President and First Family. Next, learn how to make 3D dreidels with Albert Einstein in “The Hanukkah Problem,” help Santa Claus wrap and deliver presents in “The Christmas Problem” and coach a team of skiing penguins in “The Penguin Problem,” all a part of Peg + Cat + Holidays (Wed. December 17 at 10am). Enjoy the holidays musically by discovering the origins one of the world’s most popular carols in The First Silent Night (Tues. December 16 at 10pm), a song that has been translated into more than 300 languages. Holiday Handbells: The Raleigh Ringers (Sun. December 21 at 6pm) features internationally acclaimed community handbell choir The Raleigh Ringers from North Carolina and the intricacies of the instruments, while violinist Joshua Bell invites audiences into his Manhattan home for an intimate concert in Joshua Bell Presents Musical Gifts (Tues. December 23 at 10pm). NJTV will also present an encore of Great Performances favorite Rod Stewart: Merry Christmas, Baby (Thurs. December 18 at 8pm). “On behalf of everyone at NJTV, I want to thank you for another great year of viewership and support for New Jersey public television,” remarks John Servidio, NJTV’s General Manager. “We look forward to ringing in the New Year with more local news and programming you and your family can enjoy. JANUARY 2015

Taped in NJPAC’s Victoria Theater, American Songbook at NJPAC features performances from stars of stage, screen, and concert halls. Maureen McGovern, Marilyn Maye, John Pizzarelli (at right), Nellie McKay, Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana, and Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman each perform a program of classics from the American Songbook followed by a Q&A session conducted by Ted Chapin, president and executive director of Rodgers & Hammerstein: An Imagen Company.

“NJTV is committed to featuring the arts in New Jersey,” said John Servidio, General Manager of NJTV. “We are delighted to once again partner with NJPAC to make homegrown arts content available to everyone across the state and beyond.”

Downton Abbey fans, rejoice! The popular Masterpiece series is back with a thrilling fifth season featuring the ensemble cast and returning guest stars Harriet Walter (Lady Shackleton) and Peter Egan (Lord Flintshire), together with completely new characters played by Richard E. Grant (Girls), Anna Chancellor (The Hour), and Rade Sherbedgia (24). The new season begins in 1924. The United Kingdom has its first Labor Party prime minister, the radio is the latest miracle of the age, and Downton’s traditional ways are besieged on all fronts. Most importantly, we’ll finally have answers to the burning questions from last season: Which suitor will Lady Mary choose? What will become of Edith’s baby? Is Mr. Bates a murderer? Is love in the air for Carson and Mrs. Hughes?

Before Season 5 begins on January 28, relive treasured moments from Downton Abbey’s first four season in Downton Abbey Rediscovered (Thursday, January 1 at 9:30pm). Bernadette Peters hosts a tantalizing preview of what’s in store for the Crawleys and the staff in the coming season. Celebrate the joys, triumphs and intrigue taking place at Downton Abbey — upstairs and down.

Stay up to date on all things Downton Abbey at thirteen.org/downtonabbey, where you can enjoy exclusive web videos, the entertaining Downton Abbey Dish episode recaps, cast interviews, social media buzz, and more.
