A note from Mrs Henderson Dear Parents,
Thank you for your continued support this term. It
was lovely to see you all at parents’ evening and at the parent
workshops for Reading, Maths and IT this half term – we hope to
offer more in Summer. I wish you all a relaxed and peaceful
Easter break and look forward to working with you again next
term.

Staff Update
Mrs Lovell will be leaving us
on Friday 21st April to begin
her maternity leave. We
would like to wish her the best of luck
and we look forward to hearing about her
new arrival. Mrs Fogg will be teaching
class 3EL, whilst Mrs Lovell is on her
maternity leave. We would also like to say
a big welcome to two new teaching assis-
tants– Miss Lapka in Year 1 and Miss
Bentley Dawson in Reception.
School Council Update
The School Council continue to
work tirelessly to help with fund-
raising and to create and organise
school events.
We have recently had a fantastic
Easter Bingo and wish to thank all
the parents and children for their
kind donations and continued sup-
port. It was a great success, en-
joyed by all and a huge congratula-
tions to all our winners! We will
contact you soon with further news
on upcoming events.
Very Exciting
Wedding News Miss Pickford will be getting married over the
Easter Holidays and will be known as Mrs
Byard when we return. On behalf of all the
staff at Bridgewater Primary School, we
would like to send our congratulations and
best wishes to Miss Pickford and her future
husband on their special day!
Eco-Action Update
On Friday 3rd March , the ECO-ACTION TEAM
took part in The Great British Spring Clean.
They spent the morning litter picking around
the outside of school, especially St Edmund’s
Walk and Ellesmere Street. Photographs of the
team, taken by Salford Council, appeared on the
Salford Council Facebook page and their Twitter
feed.
The bulbs and plants that the team planted
around school earlier in the year have now
started to flower, making the school grounds
very colourful.
The team also completed the What’s Under Your Feet? Survey – digging up parts of the school field to look for worms! We have just welcomed some new members from Year 2 onto the team.
Nursery have enjoyed a fun packed topic on Traditional Tales this half term. We have retold some of the classic tales such as The Gingerbread Man, Goldilocks and The Three Little Pigs We enjoyed exploring the world of books through act-ing out the stories we read, book sharing with Year 5, painting and creating some of the characters, trying some gin-gerbread and porridge as sug-gested by Mummy Bear and building a variety of homes for the Three Pigs!
This half term Reception 1 and 2 have been very busy
learning all about Traditional Tales. Reception 2 had their first solo assembly and told the story of the Three Little Pigs. They made puppets, pig houses and wrote their own versions of the story. The children had the opportunity to explore the new outdoor area and the fun learning opportunities in the different areas. Last week some special visi-tors arrived. The children have been learning all about chicks. For the last week they have helped to clean and feed the chicks. We will be sad to see them leave.
Year One’s English work has been focussed on the story of Mr
Gumpy’s Outing and Dogger. We have been learning what
verbs, nouns and adverbs are and using them in our independent
writing. We have been writing instructions on how to make a
fruit salad for Mr Gumpy’s tea party. We had lots of fun making
our own fruit salad too!
We have been securing our understanding of number through
lots of learning on place value, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We
have also worked practically to develop our understanding of
length, fractions and time. We can now ALL tell the time to the
hour and half past the hour! Keep practising at home.
Year One have been continuing to learn all about Toys from the
Past. We thoroughly enjoyed going to Quarry Bank Mill where
we explored jobs children did and the toys they would play with.
Back at school, we designed and made our own puppets for a
puppet show. We experimented with different materials compar-
ing the qualities which we needed for our puppets.

Year 3 have had a wonderful Spring term. In Eng-
lish we have been learning poetry and had the op-
portunity to recite a rap in a whole school poetry
assembly. We have also been learning about play
scripts, writing our own and
acting out existing and inno-
vated play scripts.
We have been practicing
lots of skills in Maths,
learning more about frac-
tions and place value; we
are all working really hard to know our 4 and 8
times tables.
We have enjoyed learning all about plants in Sci-
ence and particularly enjoyed creating a life cycle
spin wheel ad completing observational drawings
and paintings of different flowers.
Our Topic work has been based on Ancient
Greece, we have learned all about the Olympic
Games, the Battle of Marathon and why the Athe-
nians and Spartans were such enemies. We have
thoroughly enjoyed learning different Greek
Myths, creating our own and creating art work
based on them. We all loved our Greek experience
day at the beginning of our Topic!
Year 3 have also enjoyed cele-
brating World Book Day this
half term, including having a
specialised book artist to come
in and work with us to create
sculptures from recycled books!
This half term Year 2 have enjoyed learning about Kenya. We have located Kenya on a world map, learned about the weather and the animals that live
there. We enjoyed meeting some of these animals for real at Knowsley Safari Park! We met Rigsby the Giraffe who enjoyed eating his carrots for breakfast and found out some inter-esting facts about meerkats. Do you know that a meerkat's favourite food is a scorpion? We look forward to learning about the seaside during the summer term.
This term has been a fun and fulfilling one. We have
taken part in: rugby with Salford Reds; some dis-
gusting Science experiments relating to our diges-
tive system, painting and sketching aspects of the
Vikings linked to our topic work and learning a rap
and performing this in front of the whole school.
In Science, we have been learning about the diges-
tive system and how it helps us digest our food. We
were amazed that so many body parts are needed to
digest our food and help us stay or keep strong and
healthy.
In History, we have continued to learn about the
Vikings, where we have discovered famous Vikings
and gods such as Beowolf.
As part of our P.E curriculum, we have had the
pleasure of Salford Reds teaching us rugby. We took
part in various rugby and ball activities which then
helped us to play a full game of tag rugby in our last
lesson.
In our English lessons, we have used to emotional
text ‘Friend or Foe’ to write narrative, persuasive,
discursive argument and poetry writing. All the chil-
dren have completed their assessments and Mr
Hargreaves would just like to say a huge thank you
for the support this term.
Y4 working very hard
Year 5 have had a fun-filled half term learn-ing lots more about the Egyptians. We have created our own Egyptian collars and even invited our par-ents in to teach them how to do it. Within our D.T. curriculum we learnt how to stay safe and hygienic when making bread for St. Patrick's Day-it was delicious to eat during story time at the end of the
day! In Science we have learnt about how mixing different materials create new ma-terials and what happens when we mix bi-carbonate of soda with vinegar, Diet Coke and when it is added to a pancake mix-ture.
This term in Science, we have been enjoying learning about the human body
and what happens to food once we’ve eaten it. We have also been studying The Vikings ,
learning about their lives and we even created sour own fantastic Long Ships with recyclable
materials. We were very lucky to have a visitor came in to show us some relaxing Yoga moves
which really got us feeling reflective. To celebrate World Book Day, all we
visited our local library and explored the wonderful books. We have cre-
ated some wonderful pieces of writing based on Friend or Foe by Michael
Morpurgo and enjoyed debating some of the issues the story raised. It has
been a very busy, yet exciting term!
Year 6 have been working extremely hard this half term, our SATs are fast approaching and we have been practising and revising. We have how-ever made time to have fun as well, we really en-joyed dressing up as our favourite characters for World Book Day, we visited our local library and loved reading stories in our school library to Year 2KP. We are loving our English book The Arrival, it has encouraged us to engage in fabulous descrip-tive writing. Also we've been really enthusiastic about our Science topic, we've even made our own fossils. We have been finding out about evolution and Charles Darwin.
