1. SOCIALa. Social Wellbeing / Culture Giving a new identity to Marsa, and its

industry Preventing Marsa from becoming an

industrial slum / junkyard Social Activities will be catered for in the

innovation Hub Expansion of social knowledge through

education as explained below Preservation of identity for Marsa through

the architectural design and purposes of the proposed intervention

Preserving skills of the community by means of spreading knowledge

b. Leisure Idea of interacting with industrial processes can offer new kinds of leisure activities

Observation of modern technology while commuting

Places where people can conjugate, and have light meals will be offered

c. Heritage Close proximity to the Chadwick Building, which will need to be regenerated as the project continues

The power station Chimney Stack is located on the site. What direction this will take in the design is still left to be determined

d. Education (through Innovation) Giving people modern tools, to interact with and educate themselves, such as 3D Printers, high tech IT systems, robotic arms, and other electronic devices

Facilities for MCAST will also be provided for

Conference Centre may offer an interesting place for people to conjugate and share ideas

2. INFRASTRUCTURE AND ENVIRONMENTa. Pollution / Protection Reduction of CO2 emissions through the

use of more efficient and cleaner transport facilities

Cleaner industries – industry of the future Harbour regeneration could mean cleaner

inland waters Zero emission modes of transport such as

cycling and walking will be easier to achieve by more stable routes

b. Resourcesi. Energyii. Wateriii. Waste

Energy performance of the proposed interventions will be certified

Planning at a strategic level for orientation, insulation, etc.. to allow for more sustainable buildings

Waste streams will be minimised through the use of closed systems, which relate different types of industries together.

Recycling of heat through Heat Exchangers Waste transfer may also start to occur,

particularly by marine vessels

c. Transport / Links Better connections with the rest of the Gran harbour by Marine Transport

Links to the Southern Harbour Areas by means of busses

Light rail system will be used to connect the shoreline

A definitive link to Valletta Waterfront, and Barrakka Lift through regeneration of the Waterfront

Parking Facilities

d. Industryi. Port Facilities and Managementii. Import / Exportiii. Manufacture

New need for maritime management systems

Manufacturing will be possible, however it is not likely that mass production will occur within the intervention

e. Residential Added Property Value by means of Better Connectivity

Making residences more feasible close to the site due to the proximity with the transport hub

f. Open Spaces / Green Infrastructure Open spaces by the waterfront will be provided which maximise the use of the Grand Harbour views

Green open spaces are catered for in the proposed Strategy

Areas for people to conjugate outdoors will also be provided

g. Health Reduction of pollution by cleaner transport methods and industry

3. COMMERCE Sales of transportation tickets and light snacks

Rental of venues Sales of items which are fabricated on site

is also possible Student Exchanges Touristic impact on the Marsa area
