Rotating pick and placer: this machine can handle various types of cones and bottle sizes. It is useful in the beverage industry but also in the house care to handle products with a specific shape. 

Speed rate: it can run at high speed between 12000 and 15000 bottles per hour depending on the type of the cone.

Characteristics: this pick and placer comprises four universal shafts mounted on the rotating shaft, finished off with a rotating head with a suction cup for grasping items using a vacuum system. The suction cup moves in front of the magazine, grasps the item and places it the right way round. Pic-king and placing are synchronized by a vacuum distribution valve. Vacuum synchronization can be adjusted using a push rod. All shafts are made from steel and mounted on watertight ball bearings. Its dimensions are 1000x1200x22300mm.

Operation: piles of cones are placed on an 850mm belt conveyor and driven into a magazine. Each intake system is set on a single gearing so that the cone is put in the right position onto the bottle neck. The cones in the magazine are maintained with two cylinders in order to take out only one cone at the same time. The cone is placed onto the neck until the bottle shoulder. It can handle neck hangers as well (option).

These two machines are the result of re-enginee-ring aimed at optimising the design of the small and medium capacity FFS Arcil to gain added compe-titiveness. After the great success of the FFS Arcil A4, A6, and A8, developed and launched in the 90’s, Arcil is harnessing its experience of more than 100 customers to offer compact FFS lines with optimised CAPEX (Capital Expenditure) and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

The Group’s new creation, the EasyPlus, can operate at a speed of 23,000 cups/hour for 125 g cups (with a standard label). It has a wide range of options like all the large Arcil machines and accepts all cup and cut-out formats, 2/4/6 or indi-vidual.

The IziA4, produces 14,400 cups/hour and is de-dicated to the 63x63 mm format (standard 125 g labelled cups).These  two  lines  stand  out with  their  small  floor cover: the EasyPlus is 8.50m in length and the

IziA4 is 5.80m. It has carefully crafted aesthetics combining ergonomy, reliability and performance.Their standardised manufacture ensures real com-petitiveness in the market and availability for supply: for standard applications, the ‘Time to Market’ (time between ordering the machine and production) is from 6 to 7 months for the EasyPlus and from 4 to 5 months for the IziA4, instead of 8 to 10 months for the conventional FFS’s.

There are the same technological features on these two machines that made the name of the Arcil 43,000 cups/h or 86,000 cups/h: independent servomotors for all the main functions, absence of mechanics under plastic web level; digital pulling by means of a feed pin chain and a toothed wheel for the plastic sheet; plastic heating by contact; in-tegrated labelling with the special Arcil ‘helicopter system’; independent presses, stepping adjustment of the lidding film by stretching with a heating skid before heat sealing; cutting out by shearing of cups in single units or packs of 1x2, 2x2, 2x3 ; capacity to

restart without loss with PS or PLA based plastics. As for the other ultraclean Arcil machines, they are equipped with laminar air-flow hoods that are ultra-filtered in the dosing zone (class 100) and infrared or UVc radiation devices on the lidding film. The new Dosil-PDM volumetric dosimeter with piston, with a disc valve, has a Modular design affording more ergonomic maintenance, and is numerical and very precise (0,3g standard deviation). This filler is exter-nalised, designed for Cleaning In Place, and makes it possible to dose various products, liquids, viscous products, with or without pieces, double flavour side by side or bi-layer, twisted, hot or cold, etc.

The EasyPlus machine is available with Simotion automation by Siemens, and with a HMI on a PC with a  touch  screen,  and Arcil’s Efidrive  software. The Kinetics version by Rockwell Automation will soon be available for the American market. Several IziA4 machines are already in operation in Thailand, Iran, and Malaysia at world leaders of fresh dairy produce.

Three FFS Arcil EasyPlus machines have already been sold for applications in several Russian facto-ries. The start-up of the first line will take place in St Petersburg in September 2011.These two IziA4 and EasyPlus machines will be presented on the Arcil stand, each equipped with a robotised end of line under the responsibility of the Engineering Synerlink cell.

The company BERNHARDT, manufacturer since 1956 of  flexible and high protective pre-made pouches for sensitive products (powders, granules, liquids), presents the new and innova-tive packaging “BIKe 30” (Bag In Keg 30 litres).

The innovation consists of a 30L HDPE Keg, stackable, and returnable, combined with a high barrier flexible pouch. The liquid product, never in contact with the atmosphere, is extracted by air pressure between the keg and the pouch. After emptying, the recyclable pouch is thrown away and a new pouch is inserted. Cleaning the keg is then not necessary.The advantages are clear:

Drinks like beer and wine are directly involved, and all kinds of liquids. Two major innovations into the domain of the closure and reopen bags.These innovations come compete for the clo-sure of bags by sewing. The first is the creation of a pouring lip. When applying the sideband, a narrower band quick opening but is also applied on a pre- cut length adjustable. The double fold is also pre-cut. A primer opening is created, then opens the bag on this one section in the form of a spout. The target market for this innova-tion is that products should be partially drained and measured, and does not accept or process contamination by falling tie and sewing thread while making a concept of food security and sa-fety operator and the market for mass consump-tion (petfood, cat litter, food premix) or the indus-trial market (adhesives and coatings, dyes…) This solution enables easy and accurate pou-ring of the product and health protection. The second innovation is a solution to reseal the bay

with integral link. This is the application of the tape on the front of the bag but also a part of the back. During lifting of the tape with the lag that quick release, it is retained on the bag. The bag can then be partially emptied and then closed the bag around the neck of the lag which acts as a link. The main advantages of this solution are the lack of use of a cutting device, health safety to prevent the fall of the link in the container (bin, mixer, blen-der…), and reseal the bag at a lower cost (advan-tages are listed in the specifications sheet). These innovations patented by Cetec Industrie, apply to paper bags, plastic woven polypropylene, the consumer price remains below that of a closure by sewing a thread crepe + easy open tape in both cases.

With prestigious industrial references such as Nestle Waters, Claranor has settled its pulsed light sterilization technology as an efficient and reliable solution for online packaging steriliza-tion in the beverage sector since 2004.

Pulsed light sterilization needs no water nor any chemical product, and can be easily integrated on new packaging lines, or in retrofit on existing lines.

Those are significant advantages in comparison to existing chemical technologies (using hydro-gen peroxyde or peracetic acid), for a similar performance in terms of microbiological reduc-tion: between 3 and 5 log on bacteria and molds, on packaging materials such as closures and cups.

Such a performance enables the technology to comply with the industrial requirements for refri-gerated products, now in the dairy sector and for fresh juices.

First installations in the dairy industry

The first industrial installations, on production lines of fresh milk, drinking yoghurt and dairy desserts, were performed in 2009 in important european dairy industrial groups. Around 10 other equip-ments were installed in 2010; they are now either in function or in final qualification phase.

These applications of pulsed light will be pre-sented during a online webinar, on april the 28th (see www.claranor.com for more details).

Pulsed light sterilization solutions by Claranor have already shown their ability in the field of beverage manufacture ; they are now being approved in the dairy industry.

Pioneer and worldwide leader of the twin screw extrusion food processes, Clextral innovated with  flat  bread,  before  extending  the  use  of this technology to complete lines for breakfast cereals, snacks, appetizers, baby food, ingre-dients, pet food and other applications.

As part of its innovative programs in response to the expectations of customers and end consu-mers, Clextral proposes new processes and manufacturing techniques for food combining taste and healthy claims. The development of these new products is conducted by dedicated research centers in the company in France and the United States. These works relate to recipes, quality, shape and taste as well as aspects of processes and techniques to manufacture these products under the best conditions. As an example, Clextral teams develop such multigrain chips, «dipping chips, croutons

snacks or extruded products with visible inclu-sions and extruded meatless foods. These new products with more fiber, less fat, less sodium and less sugar are manufactured with a greater variety of ingredients and shapes.

For example, multigrain snacks are made from grain and multi grain that is substituting for tradi-tional raw materials: potatoes or corn. The fried version of these multigrain chips have 40% less fat content compared to traditional chips made from potatoes. Recipes incorporate more than 50% of  whole  grains  in  various  forms  (flours,  seeds, grits ...). The potential market for these healthier snacks is very important.

To manufacture these new products with complex shapes and new ingredients, special adaptations are made on the dies and cutting systems. These modules can then adapt to existing machines and

These “clip-on” modules developed by Clextral allow manufacturers to be very reactive in offe-ring very different products in response to market demands. 3D extruded products, bicolour snacks, breakfast cereals, co-extruded with sweet or sa-vory  filling,  multigrain  chips  or  «dipping  chips” can then be extruded on a single machine with a simple modification of modules. In 2010, a break-fast cereal production line able to make up to 23 different products has been commissioned by Clextral in Eastern Europe.

To adapt quickly to new consumer trends, the de-velopment of new products and modular produc-tion lines becomes a real issue for food manufac-turers. When it launched its now world famous “mandrel type case erector” technology, DS Smith Pac-kaging Systems (former Otor Systems) offe-red its customers new possibilities in the field of packing.

DS Smith Packaging Systems presents me-chanization solutions for specific cases erection for food and non-food products. Machines erect corrugated board packaging with or without product  filling,  by  wrapping  die-cuts  around  a mandrel. The process is designed for the me-chanization of totally new shapes and results in lighter packaging.

The latest generation case erector will be exhi-bited on the stand: equipped with 14 servomo-tors and a fully automated adjustable mandrel for quick and easy format changes, the FCE range offers unmatched high accuracy at very high

The company Zalkin consistently pushes the limits to develop new products and dedicates significant resources to Research and Develop-ment to regularly take on new challenges.It has recently designed an In-line quality control system called “ZC LINE” enabling to extend its activities into a neighbouring market sector: the quality control.

This stainless steel control machine with an exe-cution for an easy cleaning is designed for an industrial environment and is to be integrated into bottling lines.It is standardized for a multi-format handling and is compatible with glass, PET, aluminum bottles and with cans.

It is fitted with 3 measuring modules:- removal torque control module: to measure the removal torque (non destructive test) and/or

the bridge breaking torque and/or the stripping of over-screwing torque (destructive tests)- weight control module : to measure the bottle weight (with legal metrology scale)- leak test control module: to measure the pres-sure level leading potentially to the leak between the bottle and the cap.

The “ZC Line” takes the bottles by automated sampling (traceability of the batches) and has an integrated supervision system allowing to auto-matically issue the analysis of the results and the statistical processing of the measures (control thresholds, capability measures, …) and to opti-mize the production costs, via preventive alarms, in case of process drift detection (optimized main-tenance operations).

Recent applications associate Hema fillers to Sidel blowers; the Combi concept combines blowing, fil-ling and capping PET bottles into a single machine which contributes considerably to all cost reduction efforts. The hygienic security is reinforced with the Sidel Predis for preform treatment.

Serac will present world exclusive on its booth at Interpack trade the Bottle Thermoforming machine ‘Roll N Blow’ of the French start-up Agami, company of which Serac is a shareholder. This machine allows producing bottles at a cost and a material weight much lower than the conven-tional methods. It is based on an innovative technology of tubular thermoforming from a plastic sheet in reel. This technology authorizes high and round shapes for a volume from 100 to 500 ml. It addresses fresh dairy products industry and more particularly drinking yoghurts, and also fruit juices.

Numerous plastic materials are compatible with the thermoforming (PS, PP, PLA, PET).

The production of a plastic film extruded at high pace and large width is very economic. The plastic goes directly from stage of sheet to bottle. This represents savings of purchase of the order of 30 to 50 %.The use of reels of plastic sheet as basic material allows to reduce the costs of transport, storages and manipulations of bottles or empty preforms upstream to the blowing.In terms of utilities all the consumptions are reduced with regard to the conventional technologies: the blowing is implemented at low-pressure (< 6 bar) and at low temperature (< 150°C). No necessity of high-pressure compressor and electric consumption is 2 to 3 times lower compared to traditional blowing of preforms.Roll N Blow 4 tracks thermoforming machine that will be presented to the trade authorizes a pace of 7 000 packagings / hour.

The French Company SG2C has a wide expe-rience in depositing processes as its history comes from SOGEM FL, who was one of the market leaders for turnkey biscuit, bakery and confectionery production lines.

With a large number of depositors and cap-pers delivered worldwide over the last 15 years, the Concept Capper technology made its  name mainly  on difficult  applications  for  ei-ther high speed, large plants, layer deposit on rectangular biscuits or multi-size applications. Thanks to a modular concept, SG2C can sup-ply a wide range of solutions from basic dosing machines into moulds or directly on oven bands (from open hopper or manifolds), up to intensive 24-hour operating tartlets and/or sandwiching machines with several servo driven heads in sery.

The depositing in continuous mode on/into bakery items is by far the most difficult expertise with syn-chronisation of the production flow, as it requires an accurate product handling, aligning, pitching with sometimes turning of all or every alternate rows. Finally SG2C’s depositing heads can be used for horizontal or vertical injection into pastries with the addition of needles and a pumping system to push the filling through. 

The range of SG2C’s injectors covers disconti-nuous injection of products places in a cross chain conveyor, or into pans or full rows coming from the process on flat polyurethane belts.

THIMONNIER manufactures packing machines in France for both liquid and viscous products (milk, kefir, and yoghurt) in polyethylene “pillow” pouches. Vertical packing machines are used for pasteurized, ultra-clean, aseptic (UHT) milk.

TIFLEX launches a new ink jet printer Very High Resolution called HRP 1000 R3. French manu-facturer  of  marking,  identification  and  coding solutions, TIFLEX has developed this new ma-terial to meet the logistical needs for traceability of industrial products. Last one of HRP’s range marketed since 10 years, this is the third gene-ration of this successful printer.

Adapted for the logistic, food processing, phar-maceutical, and chemical industries, HRP 1000 R3 prints up to 100m / min to a maximum height of 200 mm.Texts, logos, bar codes (1D) and Datama-trix (2D) can be marked on all kind of suports (cardboard, wood, paper).
