Feature: Explore God

Explore God By: Rick Raines

What a unique privilege it is for Fairmount to be part of a Central Virginia-wide effort to reach unchurched and unsaved people with the eternal message of Scripture. “Explore God” is going to be a life-changing journey for many folks of all ages from across our community. In addition to discussion groups that are popping up in restaurants, coffee shops, and community centers, churches across the region will be sharing in the preaching portion of “Explore God”.

On seven consecutive Sundays, beginning on September 11, Fairmount’s preaching staff will be answering the “7 Big Questions” – questions most commonly asked by folks seeking answers to matters of faith. These questions will range from “Does life have a purpose?” to “Why does God allow pain and suffering?” to “Is the Bible reliable?” It is going to be an exciting

challenge. The Fairmount family will

undoubtedly welcome several – if not many – guests who are coming to explore God with us. That is the primary goal. But an equally valuable goal is the exposure for each of us to these seven questions – questions each of us may be asked any day by a family member, friend, or co-worker.

Join me – right now – in praying for this endeavor. It WILL change someone’s life and, more importantly, their eternity. Encourage folks to check out ExploreGod.com and to consider a discussion group. Invite folks to come to Sunday services with you. Be prepared to learn as each of us … Explores God! ■

Financial Peace University

To be a winning football team takes both good planning and execution. Trainers have plans for each player to reach their peak performance in physical ability. Coaches craft game plans to take on the opponents during the game. The execution part is left up to the players, but without a plan there is just chaotic movement on the field that may or may not lead

to scoring points.

Financial Peace University takes the same coaching and training approach to personal finance, because without a plan money has a way of wandering off of the field never to be seen again. FPU's approach comes from the most trusted playbook ever drawn up, the Bible, and it is all about using the resources

that God has provided to take us to the place that God wants us to be — which is not wandering aimlessly. Our moneys as well as our lives have a specific purpose, to be used to honor Him. Let's get together to learn how to do that using the game plan He has

written.

Class starts on Sunday September, 18 at 5:30. For more information you can call Kevin Bartlett at 804-932-3346 or go to www.daveramsey.com to register. We look forward to

joining you as you start your journey to financial peace. ■

Mark your calendar for the Harry E. Tucker Golf Outing: A day of fellowship and fun at The Brookwoods Golf Club in Quinton, Virginia on Friday, September 30th with other preachers and church leaders from the area.

All proceeds of the Harry E. Tucker Golf Outing go to support the Marion Harris Young Leader’s Scholarship program! This scholarship fund helps Waypoint church plants hire an intern who shows great promise as a future leader for churches in Virginia, North Carolina, and beyond. Scholarships are awarded on the basis of demonstrated leadership, character and academics.

Buffet lunch will be served at 12pm. Shotgun start at 1pm. $65.00 per player, $260.00 per group. Greens fees, cart, contests, prizes, lunch, range balls, and a healthy dose of competition are all included. Mulligans & other incentives will be available for purchase the day of the outing.

For details, call Neil Wheeler at 804.895.0485 or visit: http://tinyurl.com/TuckerGolf2016 ■

This co-ed adult class will help someone through grief brought on by a death. The class consists of a time where a DVD by professional grief counselors is watched and then later discussed. A class participant is not required to share but encouraged to do so when they feel comfortable. This discussion often turns out to be a very positive and helpful time in many ways. You are welcome to come on Sunday, September 11 and visit the class and see if it is for you. We will meet from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM in room 132B. If you have any questions, please call the church office. ■

American Heritage Girls By: Tamarah Pearson & Gwendolyn Hudson-Henderson

American Heritage Girls Troop VA2015 is prepped and ready to embark on our second year of scouting here at Fairmount. What is AHG, you ask? Well, it is a character development program for girls ages 5-18 with a mission to build women of integrity through service to God, family, community and country. Our troop meets on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of each month and we have some exciting plans for this year! From rock climbing, canoeing and camping to architecture, scrapbooking, and aviation, there are badges to fit your favorite activity. A few service projects for this year include stuffing shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, wreath-laying at veterans graves, and Christmas caroling at a nursing home. Leadership opportunities for the girls include teaching activities to younger units, leading flag ceremonies, and planning special events.

AHG is not just for kids; we need adults, too. Have a favorite skill or special talent that you wish to share? How about a passion for children and want to help on a regular basis? We are looking for a few special people that feel called to join the twice-monthly leadership team or provide your expertise for a night that is focused on a

specific subject. With more than 40 girls in the troop, we appreciate those that are willing to take a little time to help girls stretch out of their comfort zones and learn something new.

Can’t dedicate your time right now? We have two alternatives. First is to sponsor a wreath for the wreath-laying ceremony. The wreaths that are sponsored will be placed on veteran grave sites at Richmond National Cemetery on December 17th. The website to sponsor a wreath is: http://tinyurl.com/hnksz4t.

The second is to bring in school supplies, toiletries, and small gifts for the shoe boxes. There will be a collection box by the coat racks where items can be dropped off through Sunday, Nov 2. The shoeboxes will be packaged by the girls and shipped through Samaritan’s Purse to children in other countries.

Have questions or want more information about the troop? Contact Tamarah Pearson at [email protected] or 720-254-5939. ■
