This parsha is always read before the Yom Tov of Shavuos when we celebrate קבלת התורהat Har Sinai. There, too, we find that Hashem made two distinct miracles as a prerequisite to the receiving of the תורה. Firstly, there was total peace and love between all Jews, and they were all united, כאיש אחד בלב אחד. Also each individual Jew was healed of all ailments, be they physical or emotional, and every per- son was at his own personal best. A few parshios or words on a parchment does not constitute a ספר תורהuntil the entire תורהis written, but even if you did write the entire תורה, it is only kosher if each individual letter is perfect; if even one letter is not whole, then the entire ספר תורהis possul. This teaches us that we all have a dual personality. We do not look at ourselves as an independent unit but rather a part of the greater כללישראל. However, we need to be our own personal best and find our own unique niche and path in order to make the contribution that we are destined to. פיה פתחה בחכמה

During parsha, Tzirtza Rosenthal (1G-P) was able to pick out the word of the pasuk that tells us who is resting during שמיטה.

Morah D’vorah and Morah Tova (1G-P) are so proud of Gila Kuzniar for choosing to come to school even though her aunt and her cousins came to visit!

Riki Grossman (6G) was able to figure out י‘‘תשובת רש for the words לך עלה“ ” when

learning Chumash. Shira Pahmer (6G) asked: “How could משה

”?קדוש weren’t they so ;לוחות break the רבינו Avigayil Greenberger (6G) recalled the word

they learned last year in פסוק from a ”בשש“ !נביא

Learning From Our Leaders Submitted by Morah Schulman (2G)

R av Shlomo Zalman Auerbach was a young child in cheder. When a boy

would recite a mesechta in class by heart, the rebbi would reward him with a prize. Rav Shlomo Zalman recited many mesechtos by heart. Each time he did so, he would request money instead of a prize. His rebbi was always wondering what such a young boy wanted money for? One day he decided to follow Rav Shlomo Zalman home, to see what he would do with his money. He watched as Rav Shlomo Zalman went into a store and purchased batteries. The rebbi asked him, “What are you buying these batteries for?” Rav Shlomo Zalman an-swered, these batteries are for my mother’s hearing aids.” Even as such a young child, look at what the tzaddik, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach bought with his money he had earned, instead of receiving prizes!

T his past Shabbos, Malky brought out her Pirkei Avos during the after-

noon. Malky learned with me all 29 Mishnayos in Perek Daled. She stayed with me for almost two hours until we finished the Perek. Even when I asked her a few times if she wanted to stop and play, she told me that she wanted to keep learning. Although our children are constantly given us nachas, this was very special.

Seven Squared

T he yeladim made an edible Sefiras HaOmer chart. They shmeared fluff onto hard plastic

squares and proceeded to make an array of seven rows by seven rows of chocolate chips. Having a visual representation of sefirah helped the children understand the value of seven by seven as well as count up until forty nine, followed by the fiftieth day which is Shavuos. The array also illustrated the symmetry of a square figure. The children were supposed to eat one chocolate chip a day for the count-up to Matan Torah. At this point, the morah will make a disclaimer: We are not responsible for chocolate chips that cry out “Eat me!”

T here’s always some excitement going on in kitah daled. We just finished learning the entire Shemone Esrei in Biur Te-

filla and had a fabulous siyum! The girls were extremely creative in putting together things which connected to different brachos in Shemone Esrei. Everyone then presented what they made and connected it to their brachos. In Chumash we are in the middle of learning Birchas Yaakov! If you take a walk down the hallway you may hear us singing each brocha. Some of us already started memorizing it and we can’t wait to learn more. In Navi, we just learned about the Givonim fooling Bnei Yisroel and dressed up like them to act it out. We really know our sharashim with all of our sharashim mad-minutes. We keep getting better and are able to translate the sharashim at a very quick speed. In Halacha, we are learning all about Ona’as Divarim and are trying hard to include everyone in our games and not say anything that will hurt another girl. Now, with Shavuos coming up, we’re learning the hala-chos and minhagim of this chag and will soon make our beauti-ful Shavuos project. We had a great year, accomplished a lot, and are trying to get in what we can in the last few weeks of school I”H.

A Message from the Mechaneches

ROSH CHODESH

T his past Tuesday, the girls of grades 1-8 enjoyed a beautiful assembly in honor of Rosh Chodesh Sivan and Yom Yerusha-layim, which occurred on Sunday. The girls received delicious “flower” cookies as a special Rosh Chodesh treat!! A special

thank you, once again, to our wonderful PTA! The girls were entertained with a comical, yet inspirational “puppet show” by our 8th graders relating to the theme of “Shalom”. The “Puppets” explained that Yerushalayim is mentioned for the first time in Sefer Berashis when Avraham Aveinu re-turned form the war of the four kings. It is written that מלכי צדק, the king of שלם, brought bread and wine and blessed Avraham. !as Yerushalayim. Yerushalayim symbolizes peace שלם translates אונקלוס The girls then performed the story from the Midrash which tells us why Hashem chose this particular spot to build the Beis Hamikdosh. Ask your daughters how the story depicted true love between brothers. The show ended with the idea that Bnai Yis-roel camped around Har Sinai, ”כאיש אחד בלב אחד“ . The highlight of the assembly was picking the raffles for the privilege auction! The money collected will be given to the organization, Yad Eliezer, to help sponsor a wedding for a couple in Eretz Yisroel and a pair of tefillin for a young boy. Our stu-dents have raised about $1000! A special thank you to Morah Fried for arranging this auction and giving us the zechus to partake in such a wonderful mitzvah of helping others in need!

AHAVAS CHAVEROS PROGRAM UPDATE

“Malky” is so proud of the girls in grades 1—4! She is proudly wearing all her accessories! Over the past two weeks, the morahs have emphasized the specific aspects in regard to the middah of achdus. The girls are more aware of their actions and how to include everyone in their class! The girls in grades 3 and 4 also wrote beautiful paragraphs describing a scene of girls at recess and how they would re-solve the situation. The girls who participated entered a raffle. Congratulations to Ateret Witty & Kayla Mayerfeld (4G), and Te-hilla Cohen & Rena Cohen (3G), who won the raffle and enjoyed delicious ices! This program will hopefully continue to inspire the girls to include their classmates and perform acts of kindness for all. Have an enjoyable Yom Tov.
