GIVE PRAISE AND THANKS TO GOD_________________

*Hymn of Praise #16 “The God of Abraham Praise” Deacons will collect prayer requests

*Prayer of Confession

Lord, we have denied you by refusing to know you. But

you have made yourself known to Moses when you said, I AM

WHO I AM, this is my name forever. We have betrayed you by

keeping our distance. But you have said, the kingdom of God

has come near to you. We have mocked you by pretending we

are not yours. But you have said, whoever belongs to God hears

what God says. Lord, we are lost; let your forgiveness find us.

Welcome us into your strong, forgiving arms and let your

reconciliation and redemption be ours through Christ. Amen.

*Assurance of God’s Forgiveness

*Congregational Response Hymn #270

O how he loves you and me, O how he loves you and me;

he gave his life—what more could he give? O how he loves you,

O how he loves me, O how he loves you and me!

AN AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (In Unison)

Christ humbled himself in his death, in that having been betrayed by Judas, forsaken by his disciples, scorned and rejected by the world, condemned by Pilate, and tormented by his persecutors; having also conflicted with the terrors of death and the powers of darkness, felt and borne the weight of God’s wrath, he laid down his life an offering for sin, enduring the painful, shameful, and cursed death of the cross. Christ was exalted in his resurrection, having vanquished death and him that had the power of death, and to be Lord of the quick and the dead, to assure us of our resurrection from the dead at the last day. – The Larger Catechism of the Westminster Confession

So glad that you are here! Over thirty years ago George Knight wrote a book titled,

I AM: This Is My Name. In the book he stated that the God of the Bible while known

by many names has revealed himself by only one name. Three thousand years ago

at the burning bush God revealed himself to Moses as, “I AM: this is my name

forever.” This explains the reason that in John’s Gospel Jesus is recorded as having

said, “I am the Bread of Life, the Light of the World, the Way, the Truth, and the

Life, etc.” These declarations tell us much about Jesus’ identity and purpose. May

the “I Am” sayings capture our imagination this Lenten season. - Pastor Karl
