Advent gives us another chance to allow the crack in the heart to let in the light of new life

Christmas Eve Global Missions Offering

ldquofrom harm to homerdquo This year we will give our Christmas Eve Offering to the International Rescue Committee an organization that responds to the worldrsquos worst humanitarian crises helping to restore health safety education economic well-being and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster Within 72 hours of a disaster the IRC is pledged to organize health care distribute cash and deliver clean water The IRC works in more than 40 countries and 26 US cities helping people to survive and reclaim control of their futures The IRC provides relief to millions of uprooted people inside Syria in neighboring Iraq Lebanon Turkey and Jordan in Afghanistan on the shores of Greece and in 40 other countries around the world Last week Michele Villarreal from the Dallas office of the IRC spoke with us via Skype during our Wednesday night seminar Her whole heart is poured into her vocation of resettling refugees from all over the world including those from Syria If you would like to help furnish an apartment for a refugee family in Dallas look at the November 25 Lake Shorelines for a list of the items (new or very gently used) that you can contribute Place them under the Missions Tree We will take them to Dallas after Christmas

Missions Tree Today the hall near the Missions Tree is thick with gifts Remember that gifts for the Childrenrsquos Center Family Abuse Center Mission Waco Friends for Life the World Hunger Farm Meals and Wheels the Advocacy Center or for caps and gloves for Central American refugees need to come in this week so that we can deliver them to the places they need to go before Christmas We still have a few request s that need to be fulfilled Call Sharlande if you would like to help If you chose an ornament benefitting the water project in Nsam Cameroon sewing machines for Cameroon the International Rescue Committee Christian Mission to Gaza Shalom Childrenrsquos Center or LSESD in Lebanon you may turn your gifts in by Christmas Eve Thank you to covenant group representatives who coordinated all the gifts for these ministries Check in any time to see about delivering gifts within the Waco community mdash Sharlande

Wednesday night suppers in 2016 Before we leave 2015 we want to say a huge ldquothank yourdquo to all the folks who have helped with suppers this fall mdash from Marie Allen who has come every Wednesday morning to make coffee and set up to Alec Warren who has come early to serve the drinks from the kitchen window to Rachel Farris who has made sure we always had dessert to all the people who in September wrote the dates they were supposed to serve on their calendars and without reminders showed up to do their jobs We have learned a lot this fall about what Lake Shore likes to eat and about whatrsquos efficient and cost-effective to serve Probably the most important thing we now know is that the prices we are charging for Wednesday night supper cannot cover the costs of a meal and paper goods in 20152016 prices remember church members donate desserts so they are not included in our prices In January our prices will increase mdash for the first time in at least six years mdash to $6 per person for adults and $3 for children (This is a $1 increase for adults and a $50 increase for children we will still have family maximum price) More about this next week

Celebrations James Warren Helton was born to Claire and Zach

Helton on Thursday Both sets of grandparents have been in Waco to welcome Baby James to the family and for other celebrations such as

Zach and Claire Helton both graduate from Truett Seminary on Saturday with their MDiv degrees

Jaime Andy and Olivia McGlothlin are moving to a parsonage in Valley Mills where Jaime will pastor First Methodist Church and also Cayote Methodist Church in Bosque County The McGlothlins joined Lake Shore in February 2010 and Jaime was Minister to Children here from 2011 through 2014

Virginia Courtney is expecting a baby in May Gin a former member of Lake Shore is a hospice chaplain in San Antonio She wants her Lake Shore family to know her news

Brinley Kate was born to Susan and Brandon Fisher Monday night at Hillcrest Susan grew up at Lake Shore and is the daughter of Debbie York Brinley is Preston and Genie Dyerrsquos second great-granddaughter Brinleyrsquos cousin is Laurarsquos daughter Lainey Grace Patterson

Prayers for Dorisanne Cooper has been diagnosed with breast

cancer She is meeting with the multidisciplinary oncology team a Duke Cancer Center today We pray for Dorisanne as she waits to hear about her treatment and are grateful that she is at one of the best medical centers in the world Our prayers are also with David and Adam and Dorisannersquos parents Bill and Thelma Cooper as well as the members of Watts Street Baptist Church in Durham NC

Deborah Harris is resting well at Providence this week following lung surgery on Monday She is waiting on the biopsy report

Pam Allen is at home following outpatient foot surgery on Tuesday

Melody McDermittrsquos father Dale Troop of Hewitt died suddenly last Wednesday night Services were on Saturday

Mike Goodrich Ladye Ruth Casnerrsquos son-in-law and Kathyrsquos husband was hospitalized in Arlington for pneumonia several weeks ago He is in in critical condition and still on a ventilator
