Trent SquireGeneral Manager

Dear Member,

I would like to take this opportunity to tell the entire membership how proud I am of the staff for doing their jobs to prepare the facility before Hurricane Irma and then get operations

open in short order after the storm passed. Each department head executed their pre-storm protocols precisely while I coordinated efforts with Delaire security. Our plan is exact with three major priorities as the mission:

1) Safety for members and staff;

2) Protection of all assets; and

3) Getting the operation up and running once the storm passes.

While Hurricane Irma surged into the early hours of Monday, September 11, staff returned in short order and by Tuesday we were open for morning coffee and bagels and served a great lunch complete with an outdoor BBQ. The next day it was business as usual for the food operation, serving bagels, lunch, and dinner. Two days following the storm the practice range and short game area allowed members the opportunity to practice. Nine holes for golf came on line by Thursday, then 18 holes were open by the weekend. Maintenance buttoned up the exterior of the clubhouse and the golf course, making sure that nothing was left outside that could move. Tennis dropped all windscreens, and then repaired all playing surfaces after the storm. All perishable foods were properly stored in the walk-in freezers and refrigerators on the generator. Administration made sure all the servers and phone system were properly taken off line. Each department did exactly what had to be done to best protect all of the club’s assets, and then rallied after the storm to get us up and running. It was truly a yeoman’s job!

With that said, our area was spared in the grand scheme compared to others throughout the state, and in the Caribbean. I urge that both staff and members never become complacent or minimize the situation when the threat of a storm is imminent. These storms are dangerous and can be deadly, and unfortunately Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria all proved to be both.

In closing and on the very bright side, the staff and I are looking forward to the upcoming season and providing the services and activities that will allow each of you to enjoy time with your family and friends.

As always, I thank you for your continued support.

A Few Words...Judy Tarter, Editor

We are Open at Delaire ! The Golf Course, The Gym, The Tennis Courts and The Card Rooms are open "seven days a week" and all are being enjoyed by our members. During the summer, the Dining Room is open for dinner only Wednesday, Friday and Sunday evenings with lunch served daily! Although - Saturday dinners don't resume until December, I want to "Thank our Board of Governors for approving the 'Opening Dining on Tuesday Nights' in November (no longer waiting for January)!

We are moving forward - recognizing that over 60% of our members are here full time and we are all ready to enjoy Delaire Country Club "every day and night".

We all gratefully survived Hurricane Irma and are so thankful to our entire staff-especially our manager, Trent Squire for their time and hard work during and after the storm. Thanks to "Several Delaire Members' who helped each other - before, during and after the storm. That is what Delaire is about ! We are "One Family"!

Alan and I are truly proud to be members of the Delaire Family!

I’ve Been Thinking...Robert Lidz, Co-Editor

I’ve been thinking that all of us at Delaire Country Club owe a huge thank you to our staff, from front office to the kitchen and wait staff to the golf course maintenance crew to our often overlooked landscape team. All are hardworking and dedicated. This was shown particularly in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Think about it; our kitchen was up and running in a day or two after the storm. The golf course was made playable in three days. And the grounds of our community were cleared of debris almost immediately. It is worthy of mention that all this was done when the temperatures hovered around 90 degrees.

The above was accomplished without fanfare thanks to the superb direction of our Manager and COO, Trent Squire, who seemed to live here full time before and after Irma. His dedication flowed directly to his staff and for that we owe special thanks. Additional thanks go to Natalie Mitchell, manager of the POA, who tirelessly watched over our property before, during and after Irma.

Curt KarpelPresident, Board of Governors

Like others that write articles for our magazine “The Wonderful World of Delaire Country Club”, I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and early fall, whether spent at Delaire or elsewhere.

To Those members who remained here, you have seen improvements to our golf courses with a significant reduction of pine straw and the addition of grass, shrubs and other foliage in areas adjacent to our tee boxes, fairways and greens. At the time this report is written by me, the Club has entered into a contract with a different aquatics company with work commencing in early September. To date, the company has made a significant improvement in the condition of our lakes with additional work to be done. I trust that when this issue of “The Wonderful World of Delaire Country Club” is received by you, everyone will see significant improvement to our lakes and approve of the beautification to our courses.

Our professional staff has been working in conjunction with the Board and various Club committees to present to you a new and exciting year at Delaire. Our Entertainment Committee, led by Deb Kaplan, will present numerous and different social events that we trust will please you. The Golf Committee, under the supervision of Jeff White, has worked hard to present various and somewhat different formats for membership golf tournaments. The same holds true for the Tennis Committee, chaired by Dr. Saul Kimmel.

During the 2 week period of closure in August, the clubhouse and all furnishings underwent a deep cleaning to make our facilities more presentable to everyone.

Our professional staff, led by Trent Squire, GM/COO, along with Joe Jones, Lawrence Sagel and Phil Bayne will continue to do everything possible to make the time you spend at Delaire rewarding and enjoyable for us all.

I look forward to seeing everybody in and about Delaire in this coming season. I wish the best to all.

Fall 2017 | 5www.delaire.org

Dear Delairians,

I would like to welcome all of our members to the 2017-2018 Golf Season.

We have an exciting golf calendar highlighting our major events for both women and men as well as our Women’s Tuesday League and our Men’s Wednesday League.

Weekly sign-up sheets will be available in the Women’s and Men’s locker rooms for all events. Please be aware of e-mails that cover all golf related information.

Myself, Billy, Monica and Nick are always available to help you with your golfing needs.

Please be sure to have the outside golf operation personnel check your golf cart for water in your batteries as well as the air in the tires.

It is also important at the beginning of each season to check the grips on your golf clubs. We provide club gripping service.

The driving range is open seven days a week and closes Thursdays and Sundays at 5:00pm for maintenance. Monday mornings the range opens at 9:00am and Friday mornings the range opens at 8:15am. All other days, the range is open at all times!

The Golf Shop has resumed season hours and will be open 7:30am to 5:00pm daily.

Private golf lessons, by appointment with Joe or Billy, can be scheduled by calling the Golf Pro Shop or stopping by. Both Women’s and Men’s Golf Clinics will start in the middle of October, stay tuned for the dates. Children’s Golf Clinics will be offered over the Christmas Holidays. The wonderful Parent - Child Golf Tournament will be scheduled officially over the Holidays as well. Watch for all of the details!

I hope you all have had a wonderful summer and I am looking forward to the exciting upcoming golf season at Delaire!

Golf NewsJoe Jones, PGA Golf Professional

The summer was hot, but “golf goes on.” As the 9 hole courses were being rotated for maintenance and beautification on a 2 week basis, we played on 18 holes with no problems. The ladies continued their league throughout the summer as usual. Congratulations to our men who played in the South County League. They “captured” runner-up honors in their division playing spectacular golf. The Men’s 2017-2018 Golf Handbook is finished and ready for distribution. The Men's opening scramble was a great success on November 1st with an outstanding number of participants. The Winners are recognized on page 7. The Women's opening scramble will take place on November 7th and we look forward to another great day of participation.

During the latter part of the summer, we learned the Golf Association of Florida was no longer going to support our computer handicap system, our tournament program and other essential services Delaire requires to run our golf program. At this time, we have moved to the Golf Handicap and Information Network (GHIN) system, sponsored by the Florida Golf Association and supported by the USGA. This program will provide Delaire with all the tools (and much more) to make our golf program and handicap system a successful one. Many of our members who belong to clubs up north are already using the GHIN program. If you would like more information about the “GHIN” system, please contact our golf professionals (Joe or Billy ) or Alan Tarter.

If you have any questions about our upcoming golf program, please contact Jeff White (Golf Chair), Nancy Carver (Golf C-Chair), or our golf professionals. We are all looking forward to a wonderful, exciting, competitive, and most important of all - “A FUN Season at Delaire”.

I hope everyone had a good summer. Summer Golf at Delaire was quiet as it was very hot! Still - many members played everyday, except during Hurricane Irma! Delaire survived and we are enjoying our new course.

We are ready to get back to the spirit of the season, the return of our friends and the return of cool weather! We will be officially kicking off the 2017-2018 golf season on November 7th with our traditional opening day festivities! All members of the Delaire Women's Golf Association (DWGA) are welcome and encouraged to join us for breakfast, an ABCD scramble tournament and a wonderful luncheon - Delaire style. Even if you can't play golf that day, your DWGA

membership entitles you to breakfast and lunch. Please put November 7th on your calendar!

Janet Kaplan, DWGA Tournament Chair, has been busy planning some fun and challenging tournaments. I am sure you are going to enjoy the variety of the planned competitions. It is not too early to look for a partner for the Member-Member tournament which is scheduled for December 5th. Handicaps of the partners should be no more than six strokes apart to avoid losing strokes.

DWGA Bracketology starts earlier this year, beginning on December 1, 2017. Make sure you sign up in advance.

DWGA encourages you to participate in as many club wide tournaments as possible. The couples tournaments are always fun events: Sadie Hawkins (where girls ask a guy to play and can't be your significant other) and Delaire's most famous "Glow Ball" event! Remember, sign up sheets will be posted in the Ladies Locker Room!

Again, it is exciting for me to welcome you all to the 2017-2018 season. This is your golf program and I hope you will be involved. If you have any questions, be sure to ask.

As always, we look forward to your opinions as we go through the season. This will help us in future planning. See you on the golf course!

Delaire Women’s Golf AssociationLaura Zuchovicki, President DWGA

We are very fortunate hurricane Irma did not hit us with her full force. We did have some cosmetic damage such as trees coming down and debris all over the course. All in all, we are very lucky that our new plantings held up well and the damage was minimal.

Our new interim Green Superintendent, Brian Bowles, who many of you might know, has been leading the charge to get things back in shape and up and running as fast as possible. Our new lakes company has started the lake restoration and cleanup. I am encouraged that with their experience, equipment and employees, they will bring the

lakes up to the standards we all want to see. They are planning to remove the algae, keep it under control, plant colorful aquatics and eliminate the eyesore we have been living with.

As far as the beautification project is concerned, I hope you have followed the progress in Curt Karpel's biweekly updates and will be pleased when the project is completed in the Fall.

We recently had two consultants look at our golf course to evaluate it and make suggestions as to how we can improve things. You have all received copies of their reports and have had time to look at them. Brian Bowles has also received copies and will use the information to improve procedures where necessary.

I am sorry to say that I am not very happy with the way some of our members are abusing the golf course. Call it entitlement, laziness or the "I just don't care attitude" of a small number of our members. Bunkers are not raked because it's too hot or the rakes are not within an arms-length distance, which shows disregard for the people playing behind them. Ball marks are not repaired for whatever reason. Aside from handicapped players that have a need to park closer to the green, players ride around the stakes and park very close to the greens thereby trampling down the rough. What irks me the most is when I see four players in three or four carts. As pointed out by the consultants, the course is not yet mature and the extra traffic is a strain on the grass.

Please treat the golf course with the respect it deserves and it will give us all the pleasure of having a wonderful playing surface, so we can complain about our game and not the course.

I am happy to answer all of your concerns personally.

BEHIND THE SCENES... GOLF STAFF - 2017-2018BEHIND THE SCENES... GOLF STAFF - 2017-2018As the new season at Delaire has started, it seems appropriate to highlight one of the most visible groups that support us - "The Golf Staff"! Joe and Billy, supported by Kenny, Jeff, Monica and their great team who take care of our carts, the tee-offs, the tournaments and making us and our guests feel like we are 'one family' every day. Although many of the team have been at Delaire for several years, there are always a few new people on the staff, so please tae a look at the picture and try to remember their names, just the way they know all of ours!

(L. to R.) Billy Jones, Ken Knudsen, Joe Jones, Perry DiMattia, Claudia Bcero, Rosie Paulino, Geoff Carlin, Luis Garcia, Peter Velardi, Mike DeGennaro, Kevin Murrary, Pat Argento, Patrick Timmans, Nick Capobianco, Monica Castro, Jeff Miller

Jeff moved to Florida in 2002 from Long Island, New York as an independent rep selling microprocessors; however, during the economic down turn Jeff began to look for ways to supplement his income. He knew Perry Dimattio and when Perry told him Delaire was looking for temporary help on the golf staff, he applied for the job. Four years ago, Jeff became a permanent member of the Delaire family, responsible for 18 people, including the bag and cart staff, the rangers, the driving range and all of the outside stations on the golf course. Although he has a nice new set of clubs and would like to learn to play golf, with all of his responsibilities, Jeff does not have much time to play. However, in addition to being an avid Yankee and Steelers fan (his father is a big Yankees fan)- he is not sure where he developed his love for the Steelers- but he does find time to enjoy an active life. With the season already begun, he is enjoying being with the Delaire Family!Jeff Miller

News from Your P.O.A.Gail P. Karpel, P.O.A. Secretary

On behalf of your POA, we want to wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year. We hope you had a wonderful summer.

The POA is planning a Town Hall meeting to review the proposal for re-surfacing our roads. There will be no assessment as the monies have already been placed in a Reserve Fund for this project. Bids will be solicited from contractors and a date will be set for this long overdue project to be done.

There is a glaring problem that exists for those homeowners who use well water, not city water in your home system. Rust stains are prevalent on many sidewalks and certain of our roads. If you use well water for your home, you must have a rust prevention system. We would ask that you consider converting to city water, though there is a cost to changing.

Please keep yourself aware of just a few important POA regulations :Garbage Containers - Put outside-No earlier than 5pm the night before pick up;Lights should go on - on the front of your home after dark-check your automatic timers; Maintaining your property and a Clean Roof.

Your POA is working to make our community a better place for everyone. We are always seeking members to consider serving on the Board. If interested, contact any POA Board Member to get additional information about such service.

Hoping everyone has a wonderful season at Delaire.

Board of the Property Owners Association

The Board of Governors established a By-Law Revision Committee late last year to update our Club By-Laws. This committee, consisting of David Carver, David Kaplan, Mel Katz, and Andy Lynette, with input from Trent Squire, has been working over the past 10 months to draft proposed revisions to the Club's By-Laws. The committee has sought to address some changes that members have requested over the last few years, incorporate the ability to utilize current technologies, clarify inconsistencies, make the By-Laws more reflective of the way that Delaire operates while ensuring that changes conform to the current Florida statutes.

During this time, the By-Laws Revision committee has reviewed available past feedback from members, and met with outside counsel, the Board, the Membership committee, and the present and past Chairs of the Grievance committee to obtain their thoughts on numerous By-Law matters. Needless to say, there is a diversity of opinions regarding several issues; however the committee has worked hard to accommodate these different views where possible, while focusing on making improvements that are in the best interests of all members. The committee has now completed a draft of the proposed revised By-Laws, which is currently being reviewed by the Legal and By-Laws committee. Upon completion of the Legal and By-Laws committee review, and any changes, and with the agreement of the Board of Governors to proceed, the By-Laws Revision committee intends to hold a town hall meeting and several meetings with smaller groups of members this fall to explain the reasons for the more significant proposed revisions made and to listen to members' feedback. The intention is that the proposed revised By-Laws be a collaborative effort with the members for the overall benefit of the Delaire community. The committee expects that further changes to the proposed draft will be made as a result of these meetings with members. At the conclusion of this process and a final vote of support by the Board of Governors, the proposed revised By-Laws will be submitted to the members for their vote and approval.

Communications and MarketingStewart Sims

When I started writing this column, I was going to dedicate it solely to the issue of password security, but I recently read an article about the dangers of unsolicited text messages, so I decided that I should briefly address the problem of text messages and email.

Although I am sure that most of you are aware that it is not a good idea to open ANY emails with attachments from someone you do not know, I was not aware of the potential danger from text messages being able to invade your computer. So the short word of advice is DON’T OPEN ANY EMAILS OR TEXT MESSAGES FROM PEOPLE YOU DO NOT KNOW, AND, DON’T OPEN ANY LINKS, EVEN FROM FRIENDS, IF THEY ARE SUSPICIOUS (ie. e-mails with subjects like “/ think you might find this interesting”). The chances are that your friends computer directory has been hacked and these emails could contain viruses that.

I could devote this entire column to “phishing” (the attempt to obtain sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, and credit card details often for malicious reasons, by disguising as a trustworthy entity in an electronic communication), but this article is about security and passwords. I’ll address the dangers of phishing in a future column.

When working on any of my devices, retrieving passwords for my accounts can be extremely difficult and time consuming. Whether it’s my bank account, Delaire Country Club, Gmail, AOL, Facebook, Pinterest, Amazon, and/or AOL, a username and password is required.

Initially, it was fairly easy. I created a 6-digit password and used it for everything. However, due to the scrutiny that comes with password creation, an 8-digit password was required. With time, password protocols continued to change and the process became incredibly confusing and demanding.

Experts now recommend:1. Passwords be at least 16 characters long • 2. Use unique/different passwords for each site3. Change passwords at least once every 3 months • 2. Use the 2-step verification process

Are the experts correct? Do we follow their recommendations?Personally, I feel 16 characters is too long (even if a password manager is being used). I tend to follow 5 basic rules when creating a unique password. Passwords must contain:

A minimum of 1 lower case letter [a-z] andA minimum of 1 upper case letter [A-Z] andA minimum of 1 numeric character [0-9] andA minimum of 1 special character: —’!@#$%^&*()-_+={}[]|;:”<>,-1?At least 1 upper case, numeric, and special character must be EMBEDDED somewhere in the middle of the password, and not just be the first or the last character of the password string.

I wish I could say there’s a simple solution to all of this, unfortunately, I can’t. If you want to keep your password information in one central location, some experts recommend using a notebook, a flash drive, a hidden folder embedded within your file/folder structure, or a password manager (a third party service that stores and/or creates unique passwords for all of your accounts).

CNET has a good short video and description of these various approaches (https://www.cnet.com/how-to/the-guide-to-password-security-and-why-you-should-care/), which I think is helpful and helped me come up with my own approach.

The approach which works best for my needs is a mnemonic device that is unique to each service, but at the same time, easy to remember. Essentially, I take the name of the service (ex: “aol”) separate it with a special character ( /, #, ?) from a simple phrase that I use for each password, that uses a capital letter somewhere in the phrase (but not the first letter of the word) and a digit (like a 3 for an e, or an zero for an o).

For example purposes, using aol as an example, and the phrase “likes hamburgers”, the phrase would be: “aol / likes hamburgers” and it would be written as “aol/lik3shAmburgers”, similarly, for google it would be “google/lik3shAmburgers”.

One word of caution, I would not use family names in a phrase (ie., “Andrew is my: son”).

Please remember only you can create a unique password. However, I feel if you follow some of these simple rules and suggestions, your data will remain secure and the process will only become easier with time.

The Delaire Book Discussion Group will meet several times during the season to discuss books that the group agrees on together. The first discussion of the season, held October 30, was very informative and we learned a great deal from each other.

We discussed 'Leah's Journey' by Gloria Goodrich, winner of the National Jewish Book Award in 1979. Violence shattered Leah's world and her journey began. It swept her from the burning villages of Russia in 1919 to the tenements of the Lower East Side, to Brighton Beach, to Scarsdale, New York, to Paris showrooms and war-torn Israel. "The setting changes, but the main story of Leah's struggles remains the same. Leah is filled with the raw and pure emotions of a young woman's survival in the midst of war and poverty." (Night Owl Reviews)

Our next meeting will be Monday, January 8, 2018 at 11:00am. We will discuss 'Little Fires Everywhere' by Celeste Ng (author of Everything I Never Told You). "It traces the intertwined fates of the picture-perfect Richardson family and the enigmatic mother and daughter who upend

their lives. In Shaker Heights, Ohio, in 1997, a quiet suburb of Cleveland, everything is planned, from the layout of the winding roads, to the color of the houses, to the successful lives the residents will go on to lead. And no one embodies this spirit more than Elena Richardson, whose guiding principle is playing by the rules.”

"Mia Warren, a single mother and an artist, with a mysterious past, arrives in this idyllic neighborhood with her daughter Pearl, and disturbs this carefully ordered community. It explores secrets, art, identity, the pull of motherhood and the danger of believing that following the rules can avert disaster.” (Amazon review, Best Amazon Book of September 2017)

We look forward to many more enlightening discussions throughout the season!

This is a reminder for interested men and women to show their support to help plan Delaire Play for P.I.N.K. 2018.

In 2018, once again, the Delaire Women's Golf Association will coordinate Delaire's signature charity event, Play For P.I.N.K (PFP). There are a number of fun activities connected to PFP. Delaire Members are already busy planning a golf tournament, a card/mah-jong party, a tennis tournament, the sale of unique boutique "finds," and a "Wall of Honor." PFP will also include fund raising efforts focused on special donors/benefactors, raffle sales, and other associated efforts.

Thanks to the incredible commitment of the Delaire membership, PFP has "taken on a life of its own" and can no longer be coordinated by one chairperson. This year there will be co-chairpersons responsible for individual initiatives. This is an unprecedented venture and hopefully the extraordinary membership support PFP has always enjoyed will continue.

We are encouraging both men and women, willing to volunteer to work on specific events for PFP to contact us at: [email protected] and join us at our first meeting to be held in the Delaire Board Room at 4:15pm on Monday, November 6th. Together "we can and will" make PFP 2018 and exceptional success!

Fitness FactsPhil Bayne, Fitness Director

COMMON MISTAKES SABOTAGING YOUR WORKOUTSWhen you’re a beginner, the very act of going to the gym is enough to achieve results, but once you’ve been training for a few years and have a solid base of strength and conditioning, it gets harder to make consistent gains and improvements. If you want to take your training to the next level, avoid these result-sabotaging mistakes:

NOT USING RECOVERY DAYS - The fitness community has seemingly adopted the philosophy: “Go hard or go home.” But, as one of my favorite strength coaches says, “Train as hard as you should, not as hard as you can.” Avoid overtraining by doing high-intensity sessions followed by recovery days. For example, the day after a hard workout, do 20 minutes of light aerobic exercise, followed by stretches, mobility exercises, activation drills and foam rolling — that’s it! You’ll speed your recovery, flush out your muscles, release tightness and tension and feel a heck of a lot better than before.

NOT DIALING IN YOUR NUTRITION - To reach a higher level of fitness or physique goals, you’ll need more fine-tuning with your nutrition and hydration. For example, your specific needs might require more of a macronutrient (carbs, for example) than you previously thought. Or maybe you’ll require better pre-workout nutrition to power you through intense training and better post-workout nutrition to help you recover. You will also need a bit more sacrifice. A beer or a few cookies throughout the week is totally fine. But too much alcohol (especially in one sitting) and junk food hinders your progress and makes it tougher for you to reach your goals.

NOT RESPECTING YOUR SLEEP - You know you should get eight hours of sleep each night. But how about the actual quality of that sleep? How’s your mattress? How dark is your room? What time do you go to bed? All of those factors make a huge difference in the quality of your slumber and how restorative it is. Make sure your bedroom is cool, quiet and dark.

NOT FINE-TUNING YOUR TECHNIQUE - To make sure you aren’t leaving anything on the table, improve your technique and double-check that you’re using the correct muscles, you’re positioned correctly and everything is properly aligned. Get someone to record you doing a lift from all angles. If you’re serious about making improvements, consider getting a trainer to learn the proper technique. A simple tweak by an expert with your grip, setup or arc can quickly help you lift more weight or get better results than ever before.

Exercising may be the last thing you want to do when you have a sore knee or aching back, but, it might be the first thing you "should" do. Physical therapy has long been recommended following surgery. But for some, "trying" physical therapy "before" opting for surgery may be the better choice.

"You may be able to spare yourself the expense, pain and recovery time of surgery" says physical therapist Karen Weber - clinical supervisor at Harvard, affiliated with Spaulding Rehabilitation out-patient centers in Draintree and Quincy, Massachusetts.

There is growing evidence supporting that idea. In the past few years, studies have indicated that physical therapy is "just as effective as surgery" for relieving pain and restoring function for people with arthritis in their knees or backs.

First step is to seek medical advice for arthritis pain that is limiting your daily activities like walking, climbing stairs, driving or even rising from a chair or tying your shoes.

It's best for your primary care provider to give you a referral for a physical therapist. You then can explore the options of staying with physical therapy or having surgery for arthritis in your knees, back or any other joint.

It's rewarding knowing you "have choices" and can make the right one for you before rushing into surgery.

TENNIS TIP: RACQUET RESTRINGING GUIDE

How often should I get my racquet restrung? This is a hard question to give a definitive answer to as it depends on your level and style of play as well as your choice of string but the main factor is the length of time that you are playing for. Generally it is recommended that you restring after 40 - 50 hours of play. Since most people do not keep track of the hours they play, you should get your racquet restrung in a year the same number of times that you play in a week. So if you play 3 times a week you should be getting it strung 3 times a year. As a minimum you should restring your racquet every 6 months as most strings will go dead within 6 months regardless of how much or how little they have been used.

Should I always wait for the strings to break before getting a racquet restrung? The simple answer is no! Some strings could last for well over a year or even several years depending on the style, level and frequency of play. If you frequently break strings then there is no problem with waiting until you break a string.

How do I know what tension to ask for?Higher Tension = More Control | Lower Tension = More Power

A lot of people think that it is the other way around but it isn’t! There are of course other factors that can give you more power or more control such as the gauge (thickness) of the string and the type of string but the tension is a major factor. Most adult racquets have a recommended tension range somewhere between 50 - 65 lbs. The range for your racquet can normally be found around the throat of your racquet.

As a volunteer and serving on the Board of Directors of JARC (Jewish Association for Residential Care) in Boca Raton & Delray Beach, Florida, our Delaire Member, Barbara Lurie sees firsthand the overwhelming need for the organization's services. As a practicing psychologist in Boca Raton, she is well-equipped to understand those needs. When she was asked a quarter of a century ago to become a JARC volunteer, Barbara said the commitment made perfect sense.

"When I was asked to volunteer, I knew nothing about JARC, but as soon as I saw the services they provide for adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities and met the people, I was sold." JARC was created in 1986 to respond to the needs of families with adult children with developmental disabilities. Over the years, it has grown to operate 10 group homes for adults, over 18 years old in our area. JARC also offers a supported-living apartment program for those adults who are more independent. JARC offers training and vocational programs where participants learn job readiness skills- including a state of the art culinary training facility that operates Cafe 95 and an environmental program where participants learn maintenance skills and automotive detailing.

"JARC has expose me to a world I knew nothing about, and it has been rewarding, enriching and emotionally gratifying"- says our proud and wonderful Delaire member, Barbara Lurie!
