R. Rooster BBQ Co Celebrates First Anniversary

In 2007 the MacSteves family arrived in Williston, so Maeve could accept a teaching position at Williston State College. When the grant that funded the program was not renewed, Maeve chose to put her teaching to the ultimate test. Maeve asked herself “can a Entrepreneurship Instructor actually start and run a successful business”? The answer is obviously yes, but she credits the help from her friends and family as key components.

Maeve worked for a year on the concept and getting the restaurant opened. R. Rooster BBQ Co opened its doors on Memorial Day Weekend 2011. Maeve and her family purchased and remodeled the former drive-in liquor store located just off Main Street on Second Street West. Maeve teamed up with Entrepreneur and restaurateur

“Dr. Mike” L’Amour together creating R. Rooster BBQ Co.

Maeve is now happy to announce that they are expanding their restaurant to add more seating. For all those who have already had the opportunity to eat at the Rooster know that the setting is nice, food is good and prices and fair. I for one look forward to watching this business grow over the years to come. I strongly recommend checking it out.

R. Rooster is located at 14 Second Street West in downtown Williston. They can be reached at 701 577 7BBQ. They are opened 7 days a week from 11 am-9 pm (Sundays- 12pm-6pm). You can also visit our website at www.letseat.at/rroosterbbqco or on facebook at www.facebook.com/pages/R-Rooster-BBQ

The Mon-Dak Ag Showcase is July 24-25 in Williston. The annual event showcases and promotes the Mon-Dak region as an ideal place for new agricultural businesses and development. The event also promotes the irrigation development and potential in the region and the crop diversity taking place on dryland conditions. The guests in attendance have a unique opportunity to view new agricultural products now growing in the region and the processing of those crops. The tours showcase the agricultural capabilities found within the Mon-Dak region and highlight the area’s potential growth and development.

Pulse plants, seed potato production, and a receiving elevator for malt barley are a few of the ag ventures that have developed because of the success of the agriculture in the region.

Ag processors from all across the country along with local farmers and members of the community are encouraged to attend the tours of the Mon-Dak region. The event allows visitors to meet with the banks, area producers, state and local officials, researchers and processors. The tours are very informative and have experts that talk and answer questions regarding the crops in the region.

This site details the number of acres

regional growers have in particular crops, livestock and irrigation. People can look up specific crops and see what is grown in the Mon-Dak region. There are 12 to 15 counties on each side of the Montana/North Dakota border included in the data, so people can look up a specific crop, find the number of acres grown and where it grows. Currently 18 crops are included on the list.

The Mon-Dak Ag Showcase serves a valuable purpose for this region. The Ag Showcase helps market the region locally and to the rest of the country. We encourage you to attend this event and find out how the Mon-Dak region can be a solution for your business. For more information visit www.ag-open.com.

The Top 5 Bakken Oil Shale Stocks

Best Tipper : Dan Aykroyd - If you’re a celeb and you’re going to become a regular at a place, be like Dan Akyrod. According to one waitress, when the Ghostbusters star visits her restaurant to the north of Syracuse, NY, he regularly leaves either $100 or 50 percent of tab, whichever is larger. Worst Tipper: Sean Penn - He and three others had New Orleans waiters waiting on them hand and foot. The tip left on a $450 tab? Absolutely nothing. There are lots of instances of Sean Penn stiffing waitstaff. How many people do you think have spit in his food by now?

Celebrity Best/Worst Tippers

Hess Corp. (NYSE: HES): While Hess is a somewhat well-known oil company, its $19 billion market cap makes it far smaller than the giant oil majors. The company sees its U.S. shale oil operations growing from 17% of its production this year to 27% by 2017. HES has a relatively low P/E of 11.08, and a one-year average price target of $80.05. Analysts like Hess, with 85.7% of those covering the stock rating it a “Buy.” With the stock having slumped from $67 in February to $55 as of Friday, it looks to be oversold. It pays a dividend of $0.40 for a yield of 0.70%.

Whiting Petroleum Corp. (NYSE: WLL): Whiting is one of the biggest producers in the Bakken, with total acreage of 683,000. Whiting is drilling in 2,264 locations in the Bakken. WLL expects its growth in the region to continue at a brisk pace. Less than two weeks ago, research firm CLSA upgraded WLL from “Outperform” to a “Buy.” WLL has a P/E of just 13.06 and a PEG ratio of 0.63. It has a target price of $69.52 and closed at $53.72 on Friday. Whiting pays no dividend.

Tesoro Logistics LP (NYSE: TLLP): Tesoro Logistics is a pipeline company created by Tesoro Corporation (NYSE: TSO) last year. Tesoro’s P/E is a bit high at 32. Annual EBITDA expected to

grow 88% in three years. TLLP is also required to pass on all of its profits to shareholders. That translates to a tidy dividend of $1.45 and yield of 4.20%. Tesoro increased its dividend 4% just last week. It has a one-year target of $37.33 and closed Friday at $35.45.

Oasis Petroleum (NYSE: OAS): If you want a pure play Bakken oil shale stock, Oasis is it. The company reported last week a 16% increase in Q1 production from the previous quarter, but that was an impressive 118% jump year over year. Oasis has a somewhat elevated P/E of 35.66, although its forward P/E is just 11.4 and its PEG ratio is 0.54. OAS closed Friday at $30.72, and has a one-year target of $38.90. Oasis does not pay a dividend.

GeoResources Inc. (NYSE: GEOI): This small cap ($781 million) has most of its operations in Bakken. GEOI has a solid balance sheet, with no debt and $39 million in cash. In the first quarter, revenue leapt 56% year over year, from $27 million to $41 million. While the stock is up 89% in two years, the potential for continued growth remains strong. The P/E is 25, but the PEG ratio is just 0.61. The one-year target price is $36.90, with GEOI closing at $30.68 on Friday. The company pays no dividend.

Infrastructure Challenges in ND

6

Infrastructure challenges in western North Dakota could limit the number of oil and gas drilling rigs in the Bakken system’s rich Williston Basin, industry executives said at a conference.

As companies have flocked to tap resources there, heavy equipment has overwhelmed roads while workers have filled up available housing. The problem is more acute in North Dakota than Montana.

There are close to 220 drilling rigs in the Williston Basin. That number could easily be doubled, purely based on resources. However, estimates of growth could be capped at 300 rigs in the next few years until infrastructure can catch up.

It’s difficult to move oil field services in this part of the basin. Some roads are literally crumbling.

North Dakota has been responsive in devoting money to improve roads, with state legislators approving a massive investment last year.

Finding places to put employees whether for work or sleep also is a challenge. Some companies have had to basically buy apartment complexes to put their people in. We’ve got campers around buildings.

There are also environmental concerns to be acknowledged in a state that relies on its mountains, streams and plains for tourism and recreation.

Industry officials said they are working on lowering emissions, recycling water, reusing existing well pads and roads, and reducing truck traffic.

They also are looking for ways to capture and profitably sell natural gas that is flared off into the air during oil operations. Especially in North Dakota, a lack of enough infrastructure to collect, move and process natural gas that’s extracted along with oil at every well can make it more economically attractive to let the gas escape into the air, said Trisha Curtis of Energy Policy Research Foundation Inc.

SD To Study ND Oil BoomSouth Dakota lawmakers decided Monday to appoint a special committee that will study what the state must do to prepare as North Dakota’s oil boom moves south.

The increase in oil and gas drilling is expected to bring increased truck traffic, housing shortages, skyrocketing rents and the need for additional restaurants, truck stops and other services in western South Dakota.

The influx of oil and gas workers will require additional law enforcement, firefighting and ambulance services. And small towns in western South Dakota will be faced with demands that exceed their current water and sewer systems, he said.

The Executive Board, a panel that handles management and administrative issues for the Legislature, voted unanimously Monday to set up a special committee to study the expected spread of oil and gas development from North Dakota’s oil patch into South Dakota.

The board also agreed to set up a committee to study the funding of state-run universities and technical schools. The study could explore funding the six universities and four technical schools with a system that rewards those that do the best in providing graduates needed to fill critical jobs. The Executive Board rejected proposals for studying the funding of school districts and examining issues related to large-scale livestock operations.

After North Dakota’s oil industry began to boom in the past decade, South Dakota started an effort to encourage more oil and gas exploration in the state. However, officials in North Dakota have advised South Dakota to begin preparing for both the tremendous wealth and problems that will accompany increased oil and gas development.

The study committee will look at a state law that allows ownership of mineral rights to be severed from ownership of the land’s surface. When many South Dakota farms and ranches were sold, the original owners kept rights to any minerals under that land, he said. As mineral interests have been passed down through several generations, they have been divided among many heirs. Companies will be reluctant to explore in an area where it’s difficult to track down all the people who hold a share of the mineral interests.

Tourism On The Oil PatchTourism officials from across the state discussed the opportunities and challenges western North Dakota’s oil boom is having on their industry during a recent conference, with better communication being a common theme to clear up perceptions about access, safety and lodging. Williston also is considering what it could do to meet the increased tourism interest in the oil boom.

Tourists call the Dickinson CVB asking for a map to do a self-tour of some oil rigs. What most people don’t understand is that you can’t just drive up to the rigs. Although taking tourists out on a rig isn’t possible, there’s potential for educational tourism.

There’s a misconception that people can’t travel in western North Dakota and all of the hotels are booked, but that’s not exactly true.Tourists should be able to find hotel rooms in western North

Dakota this summer, but they need to plan ahead. Most hotels hold rooms for leisure travelers and had openings last summer that weren’t filled because people assumed they were full.

In the past two years, 26 new hotels opened in 13 communities in the state to help with demand. Another 31 hotels are under development and are expected to add 2,400 rooms in the next year.

Motel 6 is one of the newest hotels that is now open in Williston. The Williston CVB wants to help clear up misperceptions about the lodging situation in the oil patch.

Negative stories about the Oil Patch have made some cautious, and perception is reality for a lot of people.

Tourism officials are being asked to help explain the communities are safe to visit.

Most out-of-state tourists stopping at the Fargo visitors’ center are not aware of the oil boom. Those heading west without advance hotel reservations are disappointed to find out they may have trouble getting rooms.

Hess Starts Rail Shipment Yard

Williston Las Vegas Seattle Kansas City

How Much Is It?• A Gallon of Gas $3.79 $3.68 $3.96 $3.27

• A Gallon of Milk $3.88 $2.93 $3.29 $3.58

Hess Corp started up its rail shipment facility in April that moves 25,000 barrels-per-day of Bakken crude oil out of North Dakota to a terminal in St. James, Louisiana, company officials said in their earnings conference call on Wednesday.

The company expects to gradually ramp up rail shipments to 50,000 - 54,000 barrels per day by the end of the year. Hess has leased nine train sets to move this crude, the company said.

Hess averaged production of 42,000 bpd of Bakken crude oil in the first quarter of 2012 and so far this spring is averaging 47,000 bpd of production.

The company said that it would likely not meet its 2012 Bakken production forecast average of 60,000 bpd, however, as production was not ramping up quickly enough. Hess will update production forecasts in July during its second-quarter earnings call.

Hess’s Bakken production is 85 - 90 percent black oil and 15 - 10 percent condensate, the company said.

They also perform regularly on cruise ships sailing along the Norwegian coast. They first toured the U.S. in 1993, and have returned six times. Arnstein and Grete Killingberg are joined on tour by Terje Anders Berget on Drums and Asmund Draetvik on Guitar and Bass. In this four piece configuration the orchestra will perform primarily old-time music. The Arnstein Killingberg Orchestra has produced numerous recordings which remain popular among all ages. Come enjoy a unique sound, and a concert no one will forget. The very limited number of ickets are available at the MonDak Heritage Center for only $5. We will happily process ticket orders over the phone at 406-433-3500. This concert is made possible by the Sons of Norway chapter of Sidney, Montana.

A baseball jersey worn by The Bambino sold for more than $4.4 million Sunday, a record for any item of sports memorabilia, according to the buyer and seller.

SCP Auctions, based in California, said the circa 1920 New York Yankees uniform top is the earliest known jersey worn by Ruth and it fetched $4,415,658 at the company’s April auction, which ended Sunday. That price broke the previous record of $4,338,500 set in 2010 for James Naismith’s founding rules of basketball.

Lelands.com said it submitted the winning bid for the jersey, which had been displayed for years at The Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore. The road top has ‘’New York’’ written across the front and the Hall of Fame slugger wore it shortly after he was sold to the Yankees by the Boston Red Sox for $100,000 following the 1919 season.

Ruth retired in 1935 with 714 home runs, the major league record for nearly 40 years. Hank Aaron broke that mark and then was passed by Barry Bonds, who finished with 762.

In addition, Ruth’s 1934 New York Yankees cap that was owned by former major league pitcher David Wells sold for $537,278 at auction. The colorful Wells bought the cap for about $30,000 from a collector and famously paid homage to his idol by wearing it on the mound with the Yankees during a game on June 28, 1997.

Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor’s New York Giants Super Bowl ring from the 1990 season went for $230,401.

Also included in the auction was the high-end baseball card collection belonging to former big league All-Star Dmitri

Young. Top prices were a 1954 Hank Aaron rookie card ($537,954) and a 1955 Roberto Clemente rookie card ($432,690). The proceeds will help Young begin a foundation to help kids and student athletes near his home in Ventura County, Calif., SCP Auctions said.

Other auction highlights included:

- 1924-28 Babe Ruth H&B professional model game-used bat ($591,007).

- 1968 Mickey Mantle autographed New York Yankees game-worn road jersey ($366,967).

- Circa 1931 Lou Gehrig New York Yankees game-worn home jersey ($275,706).

- Bobby Thomson’s 1951 ‘’Shot Heard `Round the World’’ cap ($173,102).

- Jackie Robinson 1950 All-Star game professional model bat ($133,234).

Bakken Housing SummitIn the Bakken, the latest slogan is, “Build, baby, build.”

A Bakken Housing Summit hosted in Williston this week calls for 5,000 new homes to be built in 24 months. Over the next decade, Williston will need about 25,000 new homes.

More than 350 people from 33 states are attending the sold-out summit, representing developers, builders, investors and others in the construction industry.

Dickinson is every bit as explosive as Williston, and other Oil Patch communities also have significant housing needs.

A major challenge to developing housing in the Bakken is the rising cost of property. Some land prices in Williston are as high as $250,000 an acre.

City officials are emphasizing a need for more single-family homes rather than more apartment buildings.

That will help Williston attract more families, which will in turn help fill more of the city’s job vacancies.

Some challenges that make investors hesitant about developing housing in western North Dakota are the difficulties in getting sewer, water and other infrastructure and the zoning rules that some communities are changing.

The summit’s goal is to help the developers and other stakeholders make connections to speed up the building process.

The summit also presented information about how to do business in North Dakota and the economic climate.

Williston Mayor Ward Koeser told attendees the oil boom creates a lot of opportunities for housing developers from other parts of the country.

Most piercings in one session

Wacky World Records

Matt Robinson recently walked into a piercing studio with 27 piercings and left with 1,143. He received 1,116 new piercings on his back and arms to break the world record. Kam Ma had originally set the record in 2002 with 600 in one session. Robinson had set a goal of receiving 400 more than Ma to shatter the record. However, when Ma got wind of Robinson’s plan, he decided to break his own record with 1,115 piercings. So Robinson upped his number to 1,200! However, after hours of torture, he decided to just break the record by one piercing and stopped at 1,116. He had the piercings removed a few days later, all except number 1,116 which broke the world record.

Where It All Comes Together

New publication for WillistonNearly two years ago I came to the Williston area to verify the rumors that I heard of the economic explosion. I soon joined with a business partner to start looking at the possibility of a catering company here in the Williston Area. We did the paperwork, deposited the money and we were off.

After several months of operations, I noticed that the local publications left me wanting more or less as it may be. I wanted a publication that focused on the important happenings without long opinionated stories and advertising that was clean, clear and easy to follow. I talked to a few of the local publications and didn’t see any changes.

So I returned to my hometown and partners up with some experienced publishers and am now proud to produce the Williston Trader. Although this second edition is work in progress, I believe you will see a great step forward and I am

happy to see what is coming up the road for the Williston Trader. I encourage you to email me with any questions, comments, concerns, or desires with the paper at [email protected]. I also encourage you to join us on Facebook.
