OHSU Periodontal ResidentsPresentations45 minutes of presentations from the Periodontal Residents of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) School of Dentistry.

ALAN DALESSANDRO, DDS LtdDr. Dalessandro was born and raised in the Chicago area. He received his DDS degree from Loyola University School of Dentistry, Chicago in 1979; did a residency at Rush Presbyterian, St Luke’s Hospital in General Practice and Anesthesia; and went on to get his periodontal fellowship at the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry. For over 35 years, he has practiced periodontics in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, and began placing dental implants in the early 1980s. Dr. Dalessandro was one of the early adopters of Cone Beam CT

scanning for bone evaluation, and uses this successfully in his practice with every implant case. He has also studied extensively regarding lasers and their use in periodontics. His teaching experience goes back to the 1990s on a wide range of topics; his goal is to pass knowledge and information along to his colleagues to help them become educated on current trends in dentistry. He is now teaching groups of periodontists and dentists on a regular basis regarding the physics of laser technology and how lasers can be used as a tool to enhance results and help treat failing implants, periodontal diseases, gingival grafting, and many other surgical procedures.

JODI DEMING, RDHJodi started practice as a dental hygienist in 1988. In the early 1990’s frustrat-ed with the understanding of the etiology of periodontal disease became in-volved with biofilm research. At that time the term was rarely used in dentistry except in the context of dental unit waterlines. As a clinical research associate Jodi was involved with biofilm growth and therapeutic product development evaluating the effect on dental biofilms. Understanding biofilms, she devel-oped a passion about non-surgical therapy, root morphology, and the results

of thorough periodontal debridement. Jodi has worked 28 years mastering non-surgical periodontal therapy techniques and procedures. She currently works in both periodontic and prosthodontic prac-tices. Jodi is a national and international educator, clinician, and lecturer. She has presented over a 150 lectures and workshops on advanced integration of ultrasonic and hand instrumentation. Jodi has served as adjunct faculty at the University of Southern California, School of Dentistry, Department of Dental Hygiene and at Spear Education. She is a Friends of Hu-Friedy Thought Leader valued for her involvement with biofilm research, instrument development and training. She is nationally recognized as an expert in endoscope and ultrasonic instrumentation.

CASEY HIERS, BScCasey Hiers presents a program approved for continuing education by the AGD to dentists & specialists at the national, state, and local levels. At the recent Yankee Dental Congress annual meeting, Casey helped educate and empower a sold out audience on topics they were not trained on in dental school, THE BUSINESS SIDE OF DENTISTRY. He has helped dentists around the country lower overhead by double digits, increase earnings by 25%, and save over 600% more for retirement, without producing more or changing lifestyle.

The School of Dentistry shares the mission of the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) to provide educational programs, basic and clinical research, and high-quality care and community programs.
