Lessons Learned – Ideas Emerged

• Focused collection development plans help overcome organizational inertia by providing paths forward.

• Curators want to collect at both the document level and the Website level.

• Discovering and acquiring collections of Web published materials is not yet supported by vendors at the level they support acquisition of print or e-journals.

• Smaller government agencies and smaller publishing houses are generally unable to assume stewardship for the materials they publish.

Lessons Learned – Ideas Emerged…more

• There is a need for internal collaborations within large institutions.

• Proactive collaborations across organizations are important:– Among state/federal agencies and university libraries– Among large institutions for cross-repository information

discovery• Need for policies that address take-down requests – from

content owners or from individuals.• Must clarify issues related to “official-ness” and “authenticity” of

materials we capture.
