The Steps Involved
• Evaporation and Transpiration• Condensation (Clouds)• Precipitation• Back to the beginning!
Information: http://www.mbgnet.net/fresh/cycle/cycle.htm
How does the sun help in this process?
• It is warm!• What happens when
its warm after it rains?
What is Evaporation?
• Liquid becomes gas and rises up into the atmosphere!
• Where can this happen?– Lakes– Rivers– Oceans– Streams– Anywhere there is Liquid!

Want to test this out?
• Ask your parents• Fill up a cup with water• Put it outside on a Warm sunny day!• Check it every little while and tell the class
what happened!• Example of how it works!

But wait! Water can get into the atmosphere another way too!
• Transpiration• Plants absorb water• Some of this water is evaporated off of leaves

The next step is Condensation!
• Water in the Atmosphere begins to turn into a liquid– It becomes suspended in air– This is known as a cloud

Have any of you been close to a cloud before? How does it feel?
• Planes• Fog– Low cloud– Feels warm and wet

The next step is Precipitation
• Different forms of liquid begin to fall to earth
• These include:– Snow– Hail– Rain

Water can collect in various places
• This also includes “run off”• Water flows down a hill or slope into any
body of water

Groundwater
• Water can soak into the ground• It then can travel to any body of water

The Cycle starts over again!

Water is Important! Here is why..
• Water takes up 70% of the earth!• Our bodies are made up water!

Water is needed to survive!
• Water can be used in various ways:– Drinking– Personal Hygiene

Ways to save water?
• Get with a partner and make a list of ways you can save water and we will share it with the class!
The End!
