Hybrid Technology

Hybrid technology is the perfect way to revolutionize the already existing modes of mobility. It offers a cleaner and promising alternative to the conventional internal combustion engines, thereby decreasing the overdependence on fossil fuels. It has undergone a surge in popularity in recent years, but has a long way to go before it is widely accepted. Human powered electric hybrid vehicles are the solution to the urgent need of pollution reduction. They basically are zero emission vehicles which run mechanically by pedaling and electrically by a motor. To promote this technology, an initiative has been taken by SAE India.

Efficycle

‘Efficycle’ is a competition organized annually by the Society of Automotive Engineers Northern India Section (SAENIS). Like-minded automobile enthusiasts come together to design, fabricate and market a three-wheeled hybrid human powered electric vehicle representing their respective college on a national level. They are judged based on various parameters included in the static and dynamic events of the competition.

Team Velociracers is a team of 25 gearheads, who aim to deliver a high performance hybrid trike for the competition. The team exists under the umbrella of SAE India Collegiate Club. It was set up as a small team back in 2013 by Yuwraj Bajaj and his associates. The subsequent team worked under the captaincy of Amol Waddamwar with Suyog Kulkarni managing the portfolio of Vice-Captain. Now the team consists of students, pursuing undergraduate education across various disciplines and years. The unbound zeal and the ability to work unconditionally has resulted into our success in the previous editions of the competition. The thirst of gaining knowledge and expertise remains embedded in our minds; and with hard work, sincerity and dedication we move forward in our pursuit of excellence.

Efficycle has provided the team with the wholesome

experience of complete designing and

manufacturing processes. To serve on the front line,

to be able to muster a spirit of teamwork among my

team members, to be able to lead them, in my view,

is the real essence of being the team Captain. The

valuable managerial skills that have gotten

instilled into me in this process shall definitely help

me in my future endeavours.

-

The team has done an excellent job in all the aspects,

be it designing the vehicle or fabricating it, or, on a

more informal note, socializing and working as a

team altogether. We look forward to a great

performance by our team at the competition. With

the amount of hard work and dedication put into

manufacturing the vehicle from square one, we are

certain that we shall triumph.

THE CHAIN OF COMMAND

Due hierarchy is maintained in the team by dividing the members to work into various subsystems.

Transmission: Rahul Bhumkar capably heads the squad aided by Tushar Wankhede. Kaveri Vasekar and Jidnyasa Rathod work under their able supervision. Fuelled by their élan, the members have achieved success in bringing about a chain drive which supports simultaneous and alternative mechanical and electrical transmission.

Steering: Pooja Bhongale leads the clan which, along with herself, includes Vice Captain Aniket Chavan, Harshavardhan Patil and Swapnali Shinde. The vehicle efficaciously maneuvers on different terrains which can be attributed to the hard work of the members of this subsystem.

Suspension: The subsystem works under the apt guidance of Captain, Sanket Munde, other members being Nikhil Bondre, Anup Yadgire and Krishnaly Baheti. The members have methodically brought about a combination of suspension mechanisms that enables the vehicle to smoothly glide on rough tracks.

Web team: Pallavi Pawar has done a remarkable work by developing the team’s official website.

Brakes: The valuable expertise of Uddhav Patil has proven to be of much help to the division. To his help are team members Gaurav Arekar, Nitin Darade and Payal Dabir. This group works with no bounds or brakes to their zeal to incorporate flawless brakes thereby ensuring the drivers a comfortable riding experience.

Electronics and Electrical: Mayur Mohokar and Akash Gunde work under the leadership of Pawan Mugal. This subsystem compliments the mechanical aspect of the team, thus completing the overall setup of the vehicle.

Finance: This subsystem is headed by Jayendu Shirsat and includes Uddhav Patil, Jidnyasa Rathod and Payal Dabir. This group acts as the crucial financial backbone of the team.

The team is keen to impart their practical knowledge in real life engineering applications. They

are keen to learn, are hardworking and have the zeal to win.
