WelcomeTO OUR EDITIONColourThe View is feeling the colour love this edition, fresh, funky and now. brought on by the launch of the new Fabric box collection we have went all out to tap into the colourful summer vibe. The view is back with a colour explosion!

Fresh from the launch of the new Fabric Box, colour is very much at the forefront of our ideology here at decora. Colour plays such an important mood changing role in our lives, be it playful, seductive, moody, happy or sad, so we explore how our colour tastes have developed within our interiors over the last decade in our “Colour Bravery” feature. Gone are the days of 50 shades of cream throughout our homes being our only option, colour bravery is definitely gathering speed! Not brave enough for a total colour overload? we look at a major trend in fashion, home and accessories in the “ombre, ombre” feature and dip into the subtle gradient colour trend that is really having a moment throughout the style stakes. watch out for our very own vertical fabric “Cassini” which also has been touched with the ombre haze in cream, taupe, purple, teal or grey. Check out our “Posh it Up” picnic feature which provides a scrumptious alternative to a standard summer picnic with simple recipes for homemade delicacies to accompany your feel good banquet. we hope you enjoy and… Happy summer!

Poshit uphere at The View we enjoy the finer things in life and this summer we plan to indulge in a few traditional picnics with a difference. ‘Posh it up’ is the name of the game. soggy sandwiches, warm pop and a squashed apple tart just won’t cut it at our swish picnic banquete.

The rules for a perfect picnic….

11

Page 15: The View SS13

What to drink-

homemade is better; nothing quenches your thirst like a homemade batch of traditional lemonade…For an alcoholic version, replace the elderflower cordial with 500ml gin.

Serves 10–20 - 8 unwaxed organic lemons, cut into chunks-300g caster sugar-150ml elderflower cordial-sprig of fresh mint

1. Put the lemons into a blender or food processor with 50g of sugar and 250ml of water. blitz until smooth.2. Pour the juice through a sieve into a jug and tip the lemon pulp back into the blender. 3. add another 50g of sugar and 250ml of water and repeat the process until all the sugar has been used up.4.discard the pulp and stir the gin into the jug. Keep refrigerated until decanting into a chilled container and add a sprig of mint.

What to eat-

Think alfresco, crusty bread sliced, chunks of salami, slices of chorizo, ripe plum tomatoes, cheese, olives and pickled pimentos. Making sure you pack salt, pepper, butter, knives, plates and glasses.

something sweet-Forget about lugging a three-layer chocolate cake on your next picnic outing. instead, pack an outdoor-friendly dessert in your cooler. Choc-dipped strawberries, a simple dessert that is always a crowd pleaser and looks gorgeous on a dessert plate.

What to do-

With the food sorted all you have to do is pick the perfect beauty spot, be it a dreamy meadow, an enchanting lake or park….and all that’s needed is a burst of sunshine!

it started with our hair, followed by our clothes and is now continuing into our homes. The gentle fade of colour look is both evocative and calming, ombre has hit the décor scene hard, tinting everything in it’s path.

For all the colour-phobes of the decorating world, it’s a subtle and easy way to add interest to a plain design, and can draw the eye across a room to create the illusion of space. When it comes to diy projects, dressers and drawers are particularly easy to work with because of the clear-cut transitions– simply pick a tone and apply variants of it to your furniture to create a gradual faded effect.

MALTA

Stay-cation, Cornwall…

located in the far west of Great britain on a peninsula leading into the vast atlantic ocean, almost completely surrounded by the sea, a magnificent coastline wraps around Cornwall for almost 300 miles.

there are lots of things Cornwall is loved for; the dramatic coastline with its captivating fishing harbours; the spectacular beaches and the pounding surf that provide a natural playground for a variety of water sports; and who can forget famous Cornish pasties and luscious cream teas? accommodation is varied, choose from hundreds of listings, including hotels, b&bs, guest

houses, camp sites, cottages and holiday parks. Things to do in Cornwall this summer include, Penzance literary Festival from 17th July to 21st July, The board Masters surf, skate & Music Festival, 7th august to 11th august and The henri lloyd sailing regatta 9th to 18th august.

A little bit further…Malta…

Found right in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, Malta has an immense repertoire of prehistoric temples and sites that include roman ruins. Presenting a contrasting assortment of landscapes and localities, the island provides various attractions that range from historical to religious and family fun. Plenty of sandy and

rocky beaches and bays adorn the Maltese coastlines, making it easy to enjoy a refreshing swim. Combined with the splendid weather, the allure of Malta’s clear waters attracts troves of tourists for snorkelling and diving.

Festas are held mainly between the months of May and september. every village has at least one patron saint, and this serves as the basis for the village feast. on the appointed time of the year, that village will festoon the streets with statues and banners dedicated to the saint, and throughout the entire week, locals and tourists turn up in droves to enjoy the festivities.

We couldn’t talk about Malta without mentioning the amazing Maltese cuisine,

colour Bravery

‘Mere colour, unspoiled by meaning and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways’. - Oscar Wilde

what’s your favourite colour? red, Green, Yellow? Each colour we hold dear could be said to represent something key about our personalities, Purple; spiritual, Green; Balance, red; strength.

if you were asked the question; what’s your favourite colour regarding your interior? would you be so forthcoming and daring? would white, Magnolia or Beige be the ‘safe choice’ amongst us? Maybe so, but it can definitely be said that the times they are a changing.

it was just 10 odd years ago when the tv show ‘Changing rooms’ rocked the nation when Anna ryder richardson painted a room red and the homeowner hated it. red, yes red, we muttered amongst ourselves on our coffee breaks. to Anna’s defence it was the home-owners favourite colour but lifting that brush and painting that wall was just one envelope push too far. so 10 years on, what has happened, are we more open, has the influx of interior and diY programmes, magazines and all round acceptance of things just that little bit different made us slightly more cool as an nation or dare we say it more cosmopolitan in our mind-set. Cosmopolitan hmm, yes it’s food for thought but we believe there is definitely something in it. Here at decora when working on

projects such as the new Fabric Box and timberlux collections we knew that the time was right to introduce gloss trend colours, blue, pink, orange etc. into our woods, we knew that the Fabric box, moving forward, could handle the infinitely cool strong pops of colour throughout the designs and

plains. This coupled with intense research, sees us arrive with our freshest collections yet. Now for the science bit, it has

been said that in design, colour is the most subjective area in decoration and no amount of research will predict how two different people will respond to the same shade. At the same time, almost any generalization you can make about a particular colour can be overturned in practice. However, one truism holds true for everyone, all of us are instinctively drawn to specific families of colours which repeatedly pop up in clothes, treasured pictures or possessions, and of course on the reverse, there are colours which we will absolutely detest. Knowing personally what we like, now is the time to embrace and apply colour to our interiors, the once trickling filter from high-end designer to high-street has gathered momentum, we have a wealth of colour to choose from.

21

Page 25: The View SS13

Just have a peek at a dulux or Crown paint chart and feast at the choices they present us. Have a meandering stroll around Next or M&s and indulge in the key colour accessories they have. Curtain fabrics, cushions, flooring, tiles, colour is everywhere and with web tutorials, interior magazines and stylist blogs to help us along the way, we can now make educated choices and tap into our own interior makeovers.

Bland beige should be banished, the colour revolution is now. Add mood, zest and personality to your interior. Colour should not scare but rather be embraced. Now armed with this knowledge, bravely go forth and add COLOUR to your life.

tweet us @thefabricbox and tell us your colour bravery story.
