The Chair’s Report Dear Members and friends, we are in unprecedented times and being challenged in how

we address the concerns facing us from the Coronavirus. In light of the many messages

we have seen and heard recently from officials, there have been some significant steps

taken to stop the spread of COVID-19. TAVCCA has been working with the various state clubs to

reassess the national rallies – with the National 1 & 2 in Charleville now postponed to 2021. The

TAVCCA All Veteran Rally in Swan Hill is being reviewed with a determination about its future to be

announced in the coming weeks and months.

As an association, we will support the

expectations around the containment of the

Coronavirus by limiting the group size of people

in the one space and maintaining a 1.5 metre

distance between people. Moreover, locally, with

the rules now clear in regards to social distancing

and the evidence this can drastically reduce the

spread of this illness, as a club, your Committee

has decided to take the following actions in the

short term moving forward:

Postpone the PAYG April Weekend Rally in

Gawler. This decision was made in line with the

Gawler Club cancelling its event of the Sunday. We

will look at the viability of holding this event if and

when the Gawler Club confirm an alternate date for

their event later in the year.

Cancel the April and May VCCSA Gatherings.

We will continue to review when these Gatherings

might resume as per normal. We will continue to

take our advice from SA Health on this.

Your Committee has also taken further action by

cancelling the September VCCSA weekend Rally that Andrew Hayes was preparing. It is looking

more certain that we will roll this event over into

2021. This virus has caused significant disruption

for many of our planned events. As a Committee,

we will continue to communicate with you via email

and through our monthly Bulletin.

Bulletin April 2020 Page 3

How can we continue to share all things veteran vehicles with you over the coming months? Given our

planned hiatus from Gatherings, we are looking at ways to maintain contact with all members. Email is the

simplist and preferred method. We encourage you to ensure your email is up to date and or set up an email

account for those who don’t yet have one. This contact will hopefully continue to provide some normality

and your regular monthly engagement with the veteran vehicle movement. We will look to re-print

material from the other state clubs in our Bulletin. If you have time to prepare an article of your own or

have some interesting pictures to share, please forward them to our Editor their inclusion in an upcoming

edition. Frank always looks forward to receiving members input to our publication.

Coping with COVID-19. I am mindful of the stress and

anxiety you or members of your wider family might

have at this troubling time about the spread of COVID-

19. I would like to share with you the following

VCCSA Vehicle Gathering Day

Just ahead of the suggested social distancing request last

month, a number of our members offered their vehicles

for the VSCC Gathering Day in the west parklands. I

thank all those VCCSA members who made an effort to

attend this display. There was a parade of 3 wheeled

vehicles and our member - Andrew Appleby (see Andy

behind the wheel of the Phanomobile: Right) – won the

best vehicle trophy on the day. Well done, Andy!

Membership Notices

Next month starts the membership renewal drive. We

will advise you in an upcoming Bulletin about how we

will activate this and advise of our plans for the 2020

AGM Notification/Committee Nomination form. There

will also be other changes in how we manage the

business of our club going forward.

Veteran of the Month

As we will not have an opportunity to view this month

“Veteran of the month” film, I have taken the liberty to

include a couple of links below to fill this void. Both

focus on the New London to New Brighton Antique car

run that takes place in North America. Part 1 shows the

Grand Tour from New London to New Brighton Antique

Car Run as they cover the 100-mile annual run.

Just for a laugh

All I ask is for a chance to prove that money can’t make me happy.

Two factory workers are talking. The woman says, "I can make the boss give me

the day off."

The man replies, "And how would you do that?" The woman says, "Just wait and

see."

She then hangs upside down from the ceiling. The boss comes in and says, "What

are you doing?" The woman replies, "I'm a light bulb." The boss then says,

"You've been working so much that you've gone crazy. I think you need to take

the day off."

The man starts to follow her and the boss says, "Where are you going?" The man

says, "I'm going home, too. I can't work in the dark."

I got a job at a paperless office. Everything was great until I needed to use

the bathroom.

If it wasn’t for the last minute, nothing would get done.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

At the homestead Skene - a western districts farm

homestead with all the trimmings including grand piano

and billiards room. Owned within the same family since

1851 with parts of this home built in 1858 and added too

later. Wonderful to see how the other half lived in their

heyday but now parts are falling into disrepair and it has

a single occupant. One wonders whether for heritage and

history it can be repurposed to survive.

For Sale: Pair of Lucas #B34 gas head

R.A.C.V. 1&2 CYLINDER RALLY, HAMILTON VICTORIA

12th – 15th March 2020 Article: Sue & Don Le Busque

Photos: Peter Allen

We were fortunate to be able to attend this rally along with Peter Allen and Larry Clarke representing

South Australia. A total of 44 vehicles took part and approximately 85 people.

Thursday was a short shakedown run through the

German Settlement areas of Hamilton in the

Western District, followed by a barbecue dinner in

the Club Rooms of the Hamilton and District

Veteran, Vintage and Classic Drivers’ Club.

zFriday took us on a picturesque trip through the

Victoria Valley (a horseshoe shaped area in between

two ranges which are part of the Grampian

Mountains) to “Sierra Park”. This is an old sheep

grazing property which has been in the same family

since the 1870’s.

The owner, Bill Crawford explained about the

special Superfine (Saxon Merino - very rare breed)

wool which they produce (around 13 microns).

Friday start at Rally HQ the Pastoral Hamilton

Museum. 1916 Morgan, Brush and Humberette ready

for the off.

Cyclecar gathering at the Golf Club for Friday lunch

From there we went to lunch at the Grampians Golf Club, before continuing on to Skene homestead,

settled in the 1850’s and which has remained in the Robertson family ever since. We were able to

walk through the homestead, which was once a stunning bluestone residence, but now in need of a bit

of TLC. We returned to Hamilton for an evening meal at the Grange Burn Motel.

On Saturday, we went to Coleraine via beautiful red gum grazing countryside. A visit to the

Blacksmith’s Shop (where we saw an 1896 replica Ford quadricycle which was running), and then a

walk through the Classic Car Museum, was followed by lunch at the Coleraine Football and Netball

Club rooms. We then returned to Hamilton via the beautiful hills and valleys of the Melville Forest

area. A visit to Glen Campe’s Motor Museum rounded off the day. Saturday night was the final

dinner at Alexandra House (Old Presbyterian Girls School – another wonderful old building), in

Hamilton.

Sunday morning featured a display of our vehicles for

the townsfolk.

The Rally was very well organised, and a special

mention goes to the Hamilton and District Veteran,

Vintage and Classic Drivers’ Club, and Tour Director

Doug Palmer. Thank you!

The 1913 Tweenie a true cyclecar! Powered by a JAP

V-twin motor and with friction drive. The Tweenie,

note the Track width. Originally made in France the

Perry it was so sophisticated as almost to

be a light car with its 880cc vertical

the same model of car that Messrs

Behrens and Hawker drove from Adelaide

to Broken Hill and back in 1914).
