Creating a Stock Portfolio in Reuters (PowerPlus Pro)

From the home page , select “Model Browser”

Select “Monitor” from the Equity selections.

Select “Simple Stock Portfolio”.

A blank portfolio will load up in PowerPlus Pro. To add holdings make sure you are on the “Holdings” tab and type the RIC into the first column. If you are asked to create a portfolio with $500,000, or any dollar amount, you must determine how many shares of each stock to start with. To do this, you first get quotes for the stocks you want to own and then back into the share amounts that you want to hold. After typing the RIC, use the tab button to move to the following columns: # of shares, buy date, buy price. (price will default to prior close unless you type in the current price)

Be sure to set commissions to $0. Also be sure that your portfolio is denominated in USD. Lastly, set your cash holdings to “Total Cash”

Select the Summary tab to see total cost of portfolio to make sure you get as close as possible to the amount you are asked to invest. In the example, the student was to invest $1,000,000 (see in red). The current value of the portfolio is in blue.

Back on the home page you can save the portfolio. Save by using “file / save as”. Save to the group drive and follow instructions to download to flash drive (instruction s for downloading are on the ETC website under “Training materials”). Do not use the “Save Portfolio” tab because you will be unable to download the file.

To sell a position, select the Trading Tab. Enter the sell date, # of shares, and price. The system will calculate your proceeds.100

Go back to the Holdings Tab and you will see the proceeds in “Total cash”

The Summary Tab will now show CASH in the portfolio (the holdings tab will not)

To buy another stock there are 2 steps. First, add the new stock to the Holdings Tab and second, reduce the cash needed for the purchase from your balance. To reduce the cash balance, check the box “show cash in portfolio” and add a negative cash entry

The cash balance in this example is back to $0 because I re-invested all the proceeds from my sale.

You will find a number of other functions from Analysis to Fundamentals. Please get acquainted with these functions. Be sure to set the benchmark for your portfolio under the Analysis Tab. The default is the FTSE Index. Below are the RICs for the S&P 500 and Dow Jones Industrial.
