Making & Assembling the Quilt1. Cut the caterpillar and buttery panels (Fabric A) as large
as possible, being sure to add4" seam allowances beyondthe printed motif. Each panel should be about 19"202"square. Referring to the Quilt Diagram, sew 222" FabricE border strips to the sides of a panel. Trim the ends evenwith the top andbottom of the
panel. Sew thelonger Fabric Eborders to thetop and bottom.Centering theprinted panel,trim the blockto 242" square.Repeat to make2 blocks.

2. Cut the caterpillar print (Fabric B) into 8 squares, each62" x 62". Be careful to center a caterpillar in eachsquare. Refer to the Log Cabin Block 1 Diagram. Sewthe green, yellow, blue, and red strips to 4 center squaresin the order shown. Press all seam allowances away fromthe center. Make 4 Log Cabin Block 1 like this. Make 4
Log Cabin Block 2, noting that the strips are added inthe same color order, but the caterpillar square is turnedupside down in the center of each block.

3. Refer to the Quilt Diagramthroughout the assembly. Sew 4Log Cabin Block 1 into 2 rows of2 blocks each, keeping the blocksin the orientation as shown. Jointhe rows. Repeat with Log CabinBlock 2s.
4. Sew one of the Log Cabin block
units to the left side of thebuttery block and one to theright side of the caterpillar block.
Join the 2 rows.
5. Sew Fabric C borders to the topand bottom of the quilt. Trimends of borders even with the sidesof the quilt.
6. Join 3 of each color 42" square tomake a pieced border row of 12squares. Make 4 rows, referring to
the diagram for color placement.Sew 2 pieced borders to the top ofthe quilt; repeat for the bottom.
7. Stitch Fabric H red borders tosides and trim; stitch short redborders to top and bottom andtrim. Repeat with the Fabric Dborders.
Finishing the Quilt8. Layer quilt with batting and
backing. Quilt in the ditch aroundborders and block patches. Quiltaround the printed motifs. Bindto nish the quilt.
