TheCaseoftwowitnesses

• AtMt.Sinai,thisprincipleoftwowitnesseswasformalizedintolawinthefollowingverses:• Deuteronomy19:15 Asinglewitnessshallnotriseupagainstapersonforanyoffenseorsinthathecommits.Bythewordoftwoorthreewitnessesisacasetobeestablished.16 Supposeahostilewitnessrisesupagainstsomeonetoaccusehimofwrongdoing.17 ThenbothpeoplewhohavethedisputewillstandbeforeAdonai,beforethekohanim andjudgesinchargeatthattime.• 18 Thejudgesaretoinvestigatethoroughly,andifindeedthewitnessisafalsewitnessandhastestifiedfalselyagainsthisbrother,19 thenyouaretodotohimjustashehadplottedtodotohisbrother.Soyouwillpurgetheevilfromyourmidst.

TheCaseoftwowitnesses

• Numbers35:30'Ifanyonekillsaperson,themurderershallbeputtodeathattheevidenceofwitnesses,butnopersonshallbeputtodeathonthetestimonyofonewitness.• SoWhenfinaljudgmentcomes,wearetoldintheBookofHebrews:• Hebrews10:28 AnyonewhorejectedtheTorah ofMosesdieswithoutcompassiononthewordoftwoorthreewitnesses.[h]29 HowmuchmoreseveredoyouthinkthepunishmentwillbefortheonewhohastrampledBen-Elohim underfoot,andhasregardedasunholythebloodofthecovenantbywhichhewasmadeholy,andhasinsultedtheSpiritofgrace?

ØSoallmankindwillbejudgedbasedonthefollowingcriteria:therejectionofYHVH’scommandments,andtherejectionofYeshua– inbothcasestheyarerejectingtheSpiritofElohim.

Patternofdiscernmentfromfalseteachings

ØForgenerationsamanypreacher,pastororpriesthastakenlibertywiththescriptures.Theyhavetakenafreelicensewithversestotelltheircongregationswhattheywantthemtothink.

ØForthewisestudent,youmustfirstdiscernalltheologyintwoways.First,readtheentirecontextofthemessage,evenifitstretchesovermultiplechapters.Second,findscripturesthatbackupthemessagefromeither,theTanakh(Torah,Prophets,andWritings)ortheApostolicwritingsasyourtwoorthreewitnessesbeforeyourbrother.

ØExample:• WhenitcomestokeepingtheFeastofTabernacles,wehaveatleastportionsofsixchapters,fromGenesistoRevelationstellingustoobservethisFeast.NomancancomeagainstthiscommandmentsinceithasbeenshowntoapplytobothIsraelandthenations.

Parallelism• Todaywe’regoingtotrytounderstandwhoarethetwowitnessesoftheBookofRevelation.• Whatistheirmission• Whatwillbetheremessage• Finally,whatdoesthathavetodowithyouandI,wholivethousandsofmilesfromJerusalem.• Thisconceptofusinga“twowitnessprinciple”,isbroughtoutinZerubbabel,andJoshuawhoarecomparedtoEliyahu andMoses.• Anexampleofthis,willbetoshowthewitnessesoftherebuildingoftheSecondTemple,parallelthemissionoftherebuildingofthethirdtempleintheBookofRevelation….

RebuildingoftheSecondTemple

RebuildingoftheFirstTemple

• AfterSolomon’sTemplewasdestroyedbytheBabylonians– 70yearslater– a400yearprocesstorebuildtheTemplebeganatthehandsoftheFirsttwowitnesses.• ThesetwowereknownasZerubbabel,andJoshua.Tounderstandthecharacterandnatureofthesetwo,willgiveuscluestothethetwowitnessoftheBookofRevelation:• 2Chronicles36:14 Furthermore,alltheleadingkohanim andthepeoplebecameveryunfaithful,followingalltheabominationsofthenations.TheydefiledtheHouseofAdonai,whichHehadconsecratedinJerusalem…. 19 They(Babylonians)burnedtheHouseofGod,brokedownthewallofJerusalem,burnedallthepalaceswithfireanddestroyedeverythingofvalue.

RebuildingoftheFirstTemple

• In538BCthePersianKingCyrusissuedthedecreeallowingforalargenumberoftheJewishexilestoleaveBabylonandreturntoIsraeltorebuildtheTempleinJerusalem.Twoyearslater,in536BC,theJewssucceededinsettingthefoundationoftheTempleandthentheybegantobuildtheTempleitself.AstheworkbeganmanyofIsrael’senemiesbecameworriedandtriedtodiscouragethebuilders.Eventuallytheirharassmentsucceeded,andtheworkontheTemplestoppedformorethanadecadeuntilthesecondyearofKingDariusofPersia.• ThiswaswhentheprophetHaggaisteppeduptoencouragetheJewswhowerelivinginJerusalemtoturnbacktotheirtaskofrebuildingtheTemple.ThetwochaptersofthebookofHaggaidocumenthowheatfirstscoldedtheJewsforbuildingcomfortablehomesforthemselves,whileGod’shouseremainedunfinished.ThenhefocusedhisattentiononZerubbabel,whowasthepoliticalleaderandgovernorofJudah,andalsoonJoshua,whowasthereligiousleaderandhighpriest.ThesetwomenlistenedtoHaggaiandledtheJewstofinallyfinishtheirjobofrebuildingtheTempleinthesixthyearofDarius.ZerubbabelandJoshuaweretwomenwhowereveryimportanttoGod,andtheprophetsHaggaiandZechariahhadmuchtosayaboutthem.

RebuildingoftheFirstTemple

• Haggai1:1 InthesecondyearofKingDarius,inthesixthmonth,onthefirstdayofthemonth,thewordofAdonai camethroughHaggaitheprophettoZerubbabelsonofShealtiel,governorofJudah[a],andtoJoshuasonofJehozadak,kohengadol[b]:2 “ThussaysAdonai-Tzva’ot:‘Thispeoplesaythetimehasnotcome—thetimefortheHouseofAdonai toberebuilt.’”• NowthesetwoareessentialfortherebuildingofYHVH’sHouse.Withoutthesetwo,whichwewillfindoutarecalledtwowitnesses,Yeshuawouldneverbecircumcisedafterthe8th dayofHisbirth,letaloneministertoIsraelintheFirstcentury.

JoshuathePriest

• Zechariah3:7 ‘ThussaysAdonai-Tzva’ot,“IfyouwillwalkinMywaysandkeepMycharge,thenyouwilljudgeMyHouseandwatchoverMycourts andIwillgiveyouaplacetowalkamongthesestandinghere.8 Listenwell,Joshuakohengadol,bothyouandyourcompanionsseatedbeforeyou,becausetheyaremenwhoareasign—behold,IwillbringforthMyservanttheBranch.

ØJoshuatheKohenGadolcamebackfromexileinBabylon,andwouldbegiventheresponsibilityofreestablishingthePriesthood,astheybuilttheTempleofYHVH.Likeallofus,Hewassinful,andhadtoberestored,consecrated,andelevatedbacktothepositionthathadbeenestablishedonMt.Sinai.

ZerubbabelGovernorofJudah

• ZerubbabelisintroducedintheBibleasasonofPedaiah,sonofthedeportedkingJeconiah(1Chronicles3:19),alsoknownaskingJehoiachin.Butfrequentlyhe'scalledasonofShealtiel(Ezra3:2,Matthew1:12),thebrotherofPedaiah.• JosephusmentionsZerubbabelasoneofthreepersonalguardsofemperorDarius,who'sdebatingskillshadswayedDariusintogivinganythingheaskedfor,includingthereturntoJerusalem.• WehaveaprincefromthelineofJudah,andaPriest,ofthelineofAaronrestoringtheTemple,theland,andthepeopleafterexile.• WhenwetakealookatthefuturereturnofMessiah,andtherestorationoftheThirdTemple,thiswillbeashadowofthingstocome.

• Fora3½yearperiodoftimethesetwomenwillbeProphesyingbeforethenations–• SowhatisthemessageoftheseTwoWitnesses?• WhenweturnbacktoRevelation10,thisiswhatweread:• Revelation10:9 SoIwenttotheangel,tellinghimtogivemethelittlescroll.Andhetellsme,“Takeandeatit.Itwillbebittertoyourstomach,butsweetashoneyinyourmouth.”[e]• 10 SoItookthelittlescrollfromtheangel’shandandateit.Itwassweetashoneyinmymouth;butwhenIhadswallowedit,mystomachwasmadebitter.11 Andtheytellme,“Youmustprophesyagainaboutmanypeoplesandnationsandtonguesandkings.”

TheMessage

• ThescrollisthemessageinTorah– thewordofGodiscomparedtoHoney.• TheHebrewwordfor“Word”is:Dabar• TheHebrewwordfor“Honey”is:Debash• Thereisasimilarroot– Dalet,andBet– DoortotheHouse.• Theissuecomeswhenyourarenowconfrontedwithturningfromyourevilways– tosomethereisgreatbitternessandgnashingofteethtogiveupyourhabitsandsins.Toothers,thepriceistoheavy,andbitternesssettlesin.• TheTwoWitnesseswillbecallingbelievers,andthoseinCovenanttoTeshuvah.Greattribulationiscoming,andtoprepareforthisbeforetheDayoftheLord.

• Oncethemessengersaregone,theGreatTribulationwillbeusheredin.However,throughthisgreatmisery,theBridewillbecomestronger,moreresolute.Prayer,study,andkeepingthecommandmentsofYHVHwillspreadthroughouttheEarth.

• Thewitnesseshadmultiplepurposes.• BringacaseagainstthoseinCovenanttorepent– andkeepHiscommandments.• BringamessagedirectlyfromtheHeavenlythroneroom– andeliminatemixedmessages,falseteachingsandtheology– andgetthoseofusinCovenantbackonKingdombusiness,andnotourownagendas.

• Finally,thismessagewillgotothenations,topeopleofeverytounge thattheirtimeisshort,andconsiderthatwhattheyhaveworshippedwillbringthemnosecurity.
