Last year we had so much fun Indoor
Racing with K1 Speed that we decided to do
it again this year. It was a cold Saturday
morning in Richardson, Texas. Fifteen of us
were there, twelve of us raced, no one
crashed. We had a rollicking good time.
This is a wonderful fun experience with fast,
well built, electric indoor go kart racers. We
wear helmets, followed instructions and
enjoyed the ride.

President’s Message
March/April 2018
2018 promises to be another
eventful year! Just last Saturday
the MBCA/North Texas event
committee met to plan and
coordinate 2018 activities. Check
your email, newsletter and our
section website for updates to stay
current. In addition to scheduled
activities the committee is always
looking for additional ideas that
might be of interest to members.
Maurice Nahas is our events
committee chair and would welcome your input.
Heritage Ranch golf and country club has been our holiday
dinner party destination for several years, but we’re going to
try something different this year with a celebration planned at
the new Frisco Omni hotel located at the Star. This should
be a very wonderful and unique experience.
Additionally, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (one of
our charities) is expecting to open their new Collin County
branch facility in Frisco later this year and could potentially
offer us a “hard-hat” pre-opening tour. If interested, please
let me know and I’ll attempt to schedule with TSRHC.
Our section is and has been well represented at MBCA.
Gene Jurick is the National President and Brett Jurick
is our regional director. Both Gene and Brett remain
active in our section activities and Brett does an
outstanding job managing our website, newsletter and
all things digital. If you happen to see either, first
congratulate them and then give them thanks for their
extensive family legacy of volunteer service to MBCA
and particularly our North Texas section.
Personally, we have gone from having 3 students in
the family to everyone graduated and gainfully
employed in their field of study. I can’t tell you what a
relief that is! Now if we can get our US Army daughter
home from Korea everything would be just about
perfect and maybe it would be just about time to
consider a new car.
We have done 3 European deliveries (if the two Audis count) since 1982 that would be a natural option and probably the subject of another newsletter column.
Very sincerely, Craig Halverson President, North Texas Section
The North Texas Section of the Mercedes-Benz Club of
America (MBCA) is dedicated to enhancing the
ownership experience of the finest automobiles in the
world. We engage in a variety of activities throughout
the year that hopefully appeal to a broad section of our
membership.
Currently our membership totals almost 1000 members
who are committed to furthering their experience and
enjoyment of their cars. Whether you’re a gear head,
performance driver, rally enthusiast, cultural maven or
social mingler, the MBCA North Texas Section had an
upcoming event for you. Check out the Events section
to see what’s coming up during the year, and for details
on events that are just over the horizon.
Welcome!

March/April 2018
For 2018, we had our first Membership Meeting
on a fairly cool February 3rd at the Marcaroni
Grill on Central Expy in Plano. Attended by 26
members of the club, we enjoyed a warm atmosphere, the always welcome camaraderie and some excellent Italian
food.
Craig Halverson welcomed our members with Gayle Brewer talking about upcoming events for February, March and
April (K1 Indoor Racing, the North Texas Tulip Drive, a DIY session and the overnight event planned for New Braunfels).
Mel Kym gave an update on a monthly event called First Saturday Cars and Coffee held in Plano that he urges us to
consider attending, the upcoming DIY at Bengal Automotive and (if the man was not busy enough) details on the North
Texas Tulip Drive.
The luncheon broke up around 2PM and I understood that a few were going to wander up to the Cinemark Theater for
an afternoon movie after the meeting.
The North Texas Section conducted its 1st DIY Technical Session of 2018 at Park Place Dallas Saturday, January 20th.
There were 23 registered Members; three first time DIY’ers and two drop-in guests in attendance. Members look forward to these combination work session / MBCA Social Outings every other month on the Second Saturday as an opportunity to inspect, perform light maintenance on these beautiful well-engineered cars using our own tools with "over the shoulder technical support” at a Dealership or Local Independent shop.
Thanks to our dealership partner Park Place Motorcars for hosting the January NTX Section event.

Event Report
Our second edition of the ever popular MBCA North Texas DIY Tech Session is coming up on March 17. Bengal Automotive in Dallas will be hosting us again for this session. The owner of Bengal is Thom Marshall. He is a long time partner with MBCA
NTX and is a good friend to the club.
You MUST attend the kick off meeting at 7:30am and participate in the briefing. This will include information on the rules and regulations put in place so that everyone has a fun and successful experience. Mel will also go over the kind of work that is appropriate for a DIY. We want everyone to have a great time and get their project done prior to 11:45. We will then clean up our work areas and leave things better than we found them.
This event is limited to the first 20 cars signed up. So don't delay signing up.
Join us for our ever popular Membership Meeting. This time we will be returning to Spring Creek BBQ in Richardson. We haven't visited them in a while but they are always one of our most popular places.
We are thinking about changing the name of the Membership Meeting to Membership Lunch. Let us know if you like it.
Membership Meetings are always a great time. You get to spend time with other folks who love these great Mercedes-Benz automobiles and socialize while enjoying a great lunch. We will talk about great upcoming events and other goings on in the Club.
I hope to see you there.
Get ready for a fun two-day drive to New Braunfels, Gruene, and San Marcos on Saturday 4/21/18 and
Sunday 4/22/18 in the Texas Hill Country.
We will meet at the IHOP, 2234 North Main, in Cleburne, TX at 8am on Saturday.
We will then drive the back roads to Wimberly and then along the Comal River to New Braunfels for some beautiful Tex-as scenery! The rapids of the Comal are especially pretty at this time of the year. Interestingly, the Comal River is the shortest navigable river in the state and has been proclaimed the “longest shortest river in the world” by locals. It runs entirely within the city limits of New Braunfels and is a tributary of the Guadalupe River.
When we reach New Braunfels late Saturday afternoon, we will check into the historic Faust Hotel in downtown New Braunfels. Later, dinner will be enjoyed just a short walk down the street at McAdoo’s Seafood and Oyster Bar where the fare will be from a select menu. Upon returning to the Faust after dinner, we will gather to award prizes for the driver’s poker run and perhaps another game.
