Oliver Wilde• Full name is Oscar Fingal

O’Flahertie Wills Wilde and he was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1854.

• Most controversial play is ‘Salome’, denied due to biblical content

• Actress Sarah Bernhardt would have played the lead role.

• The dined with other famous writers and poets such as John Butler Yeats.

• Tried and sent to prison on account of sodomy and gross indecency.

• Popular Works: The Importance of Being Earnest, Salome, Chanson

Paul Verlaine • One of the greatest

representatives of the fin de siècle in international and French poetry.

• Born on March 30, 1844 in Mertz France

• Began writing at an early age. Was influenced by the Parnassian movement

• Descended into drug addiction, alcoholism, and poverty

• In 1894 elected as France’s “Prince of Poets”
