Suzanne Parnham was born and raised in Norwalk, Califor-nia, the daughter of David and Ruth Anderson Beauchamp. She at-tended elementary school at St. John of God and followed in her mother’s foot-

steps by attending St. Paul High School. Ruth was a member of the second graduating class of SPHS, the Class of 1961. Suzanne was one of three girls born to David and Ruth Anderson Beauchamp who graduated from St. Paul High School: Suzanne Parnham, Class of 1982; Julie Sedlacek, Class of 1984; and Shari Sanchez, Class of 1987. Following graduation, Suzanne at-tended California State University Long Beach, earning a Bache-lor of Arts degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies. To pay her college expenses, she worked as a manager at Burger King and Golf ‘N Stuff. These jobs opened the door managing food opera-tions at Knott’s Berry Farm. Twenty-six years later, she is still employed at Knott’s and currently works as a Purchasing Spe-cialist. She also works as a substitute teacher at St. Pius V Catholic School. While working at Knott’s, she met her hus-band, Ken, to whom she has been married for 21 years. They have two sons: Nate – SPHS Class of 2014, and Matthew – SPHS Class of 2017. Suzanne is actively involved as a member of the MOMS club, served as a member of the St. Paul Advisory Council, and works tirelessly with the band program. She also volunteers with the St. Jude Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, and the Long Beach chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association.

2015 ST. PAUL GOLF CLASSIC IN MEMORY OF TOM KLEMENS

Page 4 The Sword

The 17th Annual St. Paul High School Golf Classic in memory of Tom Klemens was held on May 11th at the exclusive Friendly Hills Country Club in Whittier.

A loyal supporter of St. Paul High School, Tom Klemens ’68, initiated the first golf tournament for the school and was chairman of the event for many years. Tom passed away in 2006 and the tournament is now named in his memory. Tom’s wife Pat, remains a generous sponsor of the tournament and of the school, funding a $5,000 scholarship for a deserving student each year.

Guest speaker and emcee for the live auction portion of the evening was Ed Luther, former NFL quarterback for the San Diego Chargers and a 1975 alumnus. Ed provided the crowd with some great SP memories, several hearty laughs, and encouraged generous bids on some great auction prizes.

A special foursome of guests in attendance at the event were: Cephus Weatherspoon – former wide re-ceiver for the New Orleans Saints; Reggie Doss – former defensive end for the LA Rams; and Leroy Irvin – former cornerback for the LA Rams. These celebrated athletes joined their friend, former NFL player and current SPHS strength and conditioning coach, Lucious Smith, in support of the golf tournament which

helped to raise over $30,000 for St. Paul athletics. Each year, this event keeps growing with people and excitement! Be sure to “Save the Date” on your calen-

dar for next year’s tournament – May 9, 2016. A HUGE thank you to our sponsors!

Dear St. Paul Friends & Family, As this school year comes to a close, we reflect on the many achieve-ments of our students. Once again, our seniors look forward to Grad Night and donning their blue robes for graduation. Our Valedicto-rian, Renee Madrigal, will be attending the prestigious Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh and our Salutatorian, Charissa Rojales, will make her way north to the University of California, Berkeley. The list of colleges and universities that the Class of 2015 has been accepted to is an impressive one. Many of these students would not have been able to experience this vibrant, academically challenging, Catholic, college preparatory education if it wasn’t for the generosity of so many. In 2014-15, St. Paul students received over $700,000 in tuition assistance. It’s been more than 2 decades since I joined the SPHS family as a parent volunteer. My children have long ago graduated and it won’t be long until my grandchildren become Swordsmen. Why am I still involved? The list of reasons is long – strong traditions, the commu-nity of faith, and most of all, watching these students grow from youth into inspiring young men and women. As Chairman of the SPHS Advisory Board, I ask you to join me in supporting these students by making a personal gift. All contribu-tions are valued and appreciated, regardless of the amount. You CAN make a difference!

After graduating from St. Paul I attended CSUF where I received my bache-lors and went on to earn my MBA from Pepperdine. When I hear people complain about their high school years, I feel so fortunate as my memories of SPHS are overwhelmingly positive. I feel very fortunate for having been given the opportunity to be part of a wonderful school!” Monique Deveau ’04 lives in a small town called Gillette in Wyoming. She married in 2013 and has two small boys, Declan and Phoenix. Gil and Suzette Fonfara Montano ’71 write that they retired in 2014 after close to 40 years as educators and noted “Our outstanding edu-cation at SPHS, at all times, prepared us with the critical thinking, academic, collaborative and interpersonal skills, to have successful ca-reers.” Gil retired as a superintendent at southeast ROP. Suzette retired as a high school principal. They included a donation to honor their late parents, Aaron & Jenny Montano and Hank & Irene Fonfara, who ‘clearly understood the value of high school education and graduation from St. Paul High School.’
