The Statue of Gilgamesh

After twelve hours on the plane he finally landed at the

Baghdad International Airport in Iraq. Johnny is a specialized

archaeologist researching the lost artifact known as the statue of

Gilgamesh. He is brought here to meet up with some friends to help

him locate this magnificent artifact. The ride to the research center

took about three hours by car. Once he got to the research center

he met up with his two friends, Carter and Vincent. Just as Johnny

was about to say hello, a scientist came screaming out of one of the

test labs. “I found it, I tell you I found it!” he exclaimed.

“Well tell us what you found,” said Vincent.

“I located a piece of the statue of Gilgamesh in Uruk, Iraq”.  As soon

as the scientist was done giving all the facts, Johnny started his

long travel to Uruk.

“Man, this is a long hike,” Johnny thought to himself. After two

hours of walking, Johnny finally arrived at Uruk. The trip to Uruk

was a tough, difficult, back­breaking journey. On the trail he had to

walk through a river and muddy swamp. One hour into the hike he

met with some fellow travelers and they gave him tips on where to

follow the trail to Uruk.

After finding the dig site in Uruk, Johnny approached three

workers that were cataloging artifacts. He introduced himself to the

workers and he asked, “I'm looking for the site manager can you

tell me where to find him?”

“He’s over there in the tent,” replied the worker.

Johnny started to walk over to the tent.  As he got closer he

noticed a large, dirty, sunburnt man. The man was carrying a

journal and giving orders to a worker. Johnny walked up to the man

and said, “I’m looking for the dig site manager.”

“That would be me, Johnson Marks. What brings you here on this

fine day?”

Johnny explained he was a specialized archaeologist hired to

help find the lost artifact of Gilgamesh. “My information tells me

you're the man to talk to about Gilgamesh.”  Mr. Marks was

surprised because at this dig site they had just found a map.

“Do you know anything about the location of the statue? At the

research center that I just came from one of the scientists said you

may have a lead on the statue.”

Mr. Marks and Johnny went inside the tent to look at the map.

They both realized the map was not ancient. Someone must have

planted the map so they can find the artifact later. The map showed

information that Mr. Marks and Johnny studied.  They both realized

it showed the location of another map. This last map may show the

spot where the artifact is hidden.

Johnny started to explain how important the statute is to the

people in Iraq. The story of Gilgamesh takes the people of Iraq back

to the beginning of their civilization. Gilgamesh was part man and

part god.  Legend says he built the walls of the city of Uruk to keep

it safe. The bronze statue was in the museum of Baghdad until it

was looted during the war.  Now Johnny was one step closer to

finding the statute.

Both men followed the map to the second site but it looked like

an abandon site. Johnny examined the map and realized there was

riddle on it and it said, “Come to the site where you will find the map

but first you have to trigger a hidden trap.”  Mr. Marks and Johnny

scanned the site for signs of a trap.  Accidently, Johnny leaned

against a statue and the arm moved revealing the second map.

They both quickly looked at the map and it said, “Gilgamesh is the

ruler of all but his ancient statue is in the wall.”

Both men ran to inspect the remains of the wall.   Then Johnny

started to remove the rocks from the wall when he noticed a finger

sticking out.  “Marks, come here and look what I found! It looks like

a part of the statue.”  “Well let’s start digging,” said Mr. Marks.

Thirty minutes later the statue revealed itself.  Johnny couldn't

believe he could find it.
