The Ultimate Statue of Gilgamesh

….....After the 14 hour flight to Baghdad, Jamal finally landed. All Jamal couldthink about on his flight was seeing his Grandfather who he hasn’t seen in 5 years.When Jamal got off his flight, standing right in front of him was Papa.

Giving him a great big hug I said, “hi Papa, how are you.”“I’m great,” he said. Before it gets too late, we should get on home and unpack.

Jamal and Papa went to bed early that night so they could rest up for tomorrowmorning's adventure.

“Good morning,” Papa whispered.“Good morning,” Jamal answered. After Papa and Jamal got ready for their

flight to Uruk, Saudi Arabia, they took off in a taxicab to the airport....“Wow, look at the beautiful desert plains,” Papa said as the plane landed.“Yeah,” Jamal said. Right as they got off the plane, Jamal and Papa headed

towards their next hotel to unpack their bags.

Before Papa and Jamal could start touring around, they got to walk through thecity of Uruk. There were towering buildings, ancient temples, and zigguratseverywhere.

“Thank Goodness I brought my camera,” Jamal said in an excited voice.“The buildings are gorgeous,” Papa said.

As Jamal and Papa left  the city of Uruk, they came upon the great CedarForests.

“Oh my Goodness. These trees are giant,” Jamal said.“Did you know these trees go a mile long?” Papa asked. As Papa and Jamal

walked through the towering forests, they chatted and chatted their way through.

After Jamal and Papa successfully made it through the towering CedarForests, they were stood foot at the banks of the Euphrates river.“Did you know the Euphrates river goes 1,740 miles along the plains of Saudi

Arabia?” Papa asked.“Wow, Jamal said. On the inside of the Euphrates, lies the “land between the

two rivers.” (Mesopotamia),” Jamal commented in return.

After Jamal and Papa had crossed the magnificent Euphrates river, They hadcome upon nothing but a big pile of dirt. Jamal went on top of the pile to pretend likehe was the king of the world. “Ouch!” Jamal said.

“What, what,” Papa said trying to listen hard.“I felt something stab me.” Jamal and Papa were really anxious to know what

stabbed Jamal so they each got a shovel from Papa’s knapsack and started to dig upwhatever stabbed him.

A couple hours later, Jamal and Papa had finally reached their destiny.“OH MY GOODNESS!” Jamal screamed.“Is this really what I think it is,” Papa asked. Standing right in front of Papa and

Jamal. There it was. Glaring in the bright yellow sun. It was the ultimate statue ofGilgamesh!!!

Jamal was studying the Statue of Gilgamesh at his school. This would be aperfect story to tell his class and family, Jamal thought to himself. Jamal was so sikedto tell everyone about his discovery, that he left all of his things in Uruk, Saudi Arabia,and left with his Papa to go home.

“What about all your things?” Papa asked.“Can you send them to me when you come back here?” asked Jamal.“Whatever, sighed Papa.

When Jamal and Papa got home from their flight, they greeted their family andtold their story of discovering the Statue of Gilgamesh. The next morning Jamal wentto school. His first period class was Social Studies.

His teacher said, “No one has even discovered the statue of Gilga....” Rightthen Jamal shot his hand up and before the teacher even called on him, he startedtelling the story about his great adventure.

“It was a 14 hour flight to Baghdad....”
