What good is the wind if there is no sail? So, through our discipline of prayer, we put the sail up, and we prepare for what only God can do. I have been thinking through the many times people have told me they have whispered a prayer for me. I see their faces in my mind's eye, and I believe they had put their sail up believing God's gale would move the vessel. What a wonderful opportunity and privilege we have to pray for others. When Tennyson wrote, "More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of," he probably didn't completely understand the significance of what he was saying. Prayer brings us into the presence of God. Prayer offers to every follower a path of communication and relationship with the Omnipotent Creator. I wonder if our generation has proven all that prayer can do.

Charles Spurgeon wrote, "Spread your sail; but remember what you sometimes sing -- 'I can only spread the sail; Thou! Thou! must breathe the auspicious gale!'" In speaking of prayer, Charles reminded his readers that our prayer of faith is like putting our sails into the air even when the wind is not blowing believing that the gust of God's wind will catch the sail.

As our nation celebrates its 238th birthday, may I encourage us to be in prayer for those who serve our nation and secure our freedoms?

May God bless you,

The Call to Worship

The Parish Concerns & Announcements

The Chiming of the Hour

The Flame and Cross Come to the Altar

The Preludes: (8:30) “Trust in Jesus” .................................................................................... by Raymond Haan (10:55) Prelude on “Melita” ....................................................................................... by A. Fedak

*The Hymn of Celebration: “Rejoice, Ye Pure in Heart” ...................................................... No. 160

*The Minister: “Let Us Unite in the Historic Confession of the Christian Church” I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

The Call to Prayer Take this moment to prepare to speak to the One who is more focused upon our hearts than upon our words. One who is more committed to us and our soul’s well being than we are to our body’s comforts and pleasures. One who has shown us by the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ the seriousness with which He makes our appointment. The only One who loves us just because His love is greater than our sin. Free yourself in these moments from your fear-filled secrets by prayerfully confessing them in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

The Pastoral Prayer ............................................................................................. Mrs. Grace Bailey

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*The Hymn of Preparation: “My Hope Is Built” .................................................................... No. 368

The Minister: “Let Us Worship God with His Tithes and Our Offerings” The Offertory Prayer The Offertory: “Cantilena” ............................................................................... by Darwin Wolford

*The Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below: praise Him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
