I can almost do no wrong; they adore me for just being their father. Now, if I want to remain in that celebrated position, I have to make deliberate choices to constantly foster a relationship of love and support. Many family therapists will say that for a child, love and time go together. What that means is the concept of “quality time” is simply not good enough. Time is measured in quantity and not quality. Therefore, allow Father’s Day to be the day with family. Fathers, warmly receive the love from your children and reciprocate by spending time with them. However, don’t let it end with this day—continue—let your time be spent with family and those close to you. What they will perceive is “My Daddy loves me.” Grace and Peace,

FATHER’S DAY

Like many holidays, the origin of Father’s Day is somewhat hazy. Many trace the origin back to Mrs. Bruce John Dodd of Spokane, Washington. In 1909, after listening to a Mother’s Day sermon, she was moved to honor her father in similar format. After a few weeks of working with her priest, adequate measures were taken to honor fathers in that church. People began to champion this idea and before long Congress was lobbied to make it a national event. Some sought to devote the day “for honoring of fathers” while others thought to “impress upon fathers the full measure of their obligations and responsibly as a father.”

I gravitate towards the latter. What humbles me as a father is that my children consider me something important. When children are young, their father is equivalent to a super hero.

What they will perceive is “My Daddy loves me.”

Grace and Peace,

The Call to Worship

The Parish Concerns & Announcements

The Chiming of the Hour

The Flame and Cross Come to the Altar

The Prelude: “When Morning Gilds the Skies” (Hymn 185) ...................................... by Dale Wood

*The Hymn of Celebration: “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee” ................................................ No. 89

*The Minister: “Let Us Unite in the Historic Confession of the Christian Church” I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

*The Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

The Call to Prayer Take this moment to prepare to speak to the One who is more focused upon our hearts than upon our words. One who is more committed to us and our soul’s well being than we are to our body’s comforts and pleasures. One who has shown us by the passion of our Lord Jesus Christ the seriousness with which He makes our appointment. The only One who loves us just because His love is greater than our sin. Free yourself in these moments from your fear-filled secrets by prayerfully confessing them in the presence of our Heavenly Father.

The Pastoral Prayer .......................................................................................... Rev. John Fugh, Jr.

The Lord’s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*The Hymn of Preparation: “Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart” ................................. No. 500

The Minister: “Let Us Worship God with His Tithes and Our Offerings” The Offertory Prayer The Offertory: “Come, O Thou Traveler Unknown” (Hymn 386) ........................... by Dale Wood

*The Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; praise Him, all creatures here below: praise Him above, ye heavenly host; praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*The Scripture Lessons: (8:30 & 10:55) John 7:37-39 ..................................................................... Pew Bible, page 869 (9:00) Psalm 1:1-3 ...................................................................................... Pew Bible, page 424 Minister: The Word of God for the People of God. Congregational Response: Thanks be to God.
