Strike while the . . . bug is close.

It's always darkest before . . . Daylight Saving Time.

Don't bite the hand that . . . looks dirty.

A miss is as good as a . . . Mr.

You can't teach an old dog new . . .math.

If you lie down with dogs . . . you'll stink in the morning.

The pen is mightier than the . . . pigs.

A penny saved is . . . not much.

Two's company, three's . . . the Musketeers.

Don't put off till tomorrow what . . . you put on to go to bed.

Laugh and the whole world laughs with you, cry. . . And you have to blow your nose.

Children should be seen and not . . . spanked or grounded.

If at first you don't succeed . . . get new batteries.

Malachi 4 D&C 2

Behold I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:

And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse.

Behold, I will reveal unto you the Priesthood, by the hand of Elijah the prophet, before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.

And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers.

If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming.

Joseph F. Smith

…the education of our desires is one of far-reaching importance to our happiness in life.

God’s ways of educating our desires are, of course, always the most perfect…

And what is God’s way?

Everywhere in nature we are taught the lessons of patience and waiting. We want things a long time before we get them…

In nature we have our seed-time and harvest;

Nature resists us and keeps admonishing us to wait; indeed, we are compelled to wait…

The spirit of Elias is first, Elijah second, and Messiah last.

Elias is a forerunner to prepare the way, and the spirit and power of Elijah is to come after,

holding the keys of power, building the Temple to the capstone, placing the seals of the Melchisedek Priesthood upon the house of Israel, and making all things ready; then Messiah comes to His Temple, which is last of all.“DHC, 6:254.

Finally ….the spirit of Elijah is that still small voice that whispers deep

inside us the word family. It beckons to all of us, "Come home." Come home from extraneous temporal concerns, come home

from worldly preoccupations, break off the consuming material chains with which you are bound. Leave sin and error behind and come home.

Please, come home! That quiet yet powerful voice is both a call to be united forever with our earthly families

and an invitation to attend a reunion with the family of God, our Eternal Father, and form part of his divine, eternal family.

Byron R. Merrill, Elijah: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow ( 1997)
