Bishop's Annual Appeal 2016/2017:

Merciful to the World in need,

We serve Others Together

Through the Bishop's Annual Appeal, Bishop Robert Muench directs a unique Catholic effort, ensuring special projects and ministry programs receive essential funding, and extending the mercy of Jesus Christ to parishioners and parishes that need the Lord's mercy most of all. As a Diocese, we begin our fourth decade of ministry support, thankful for the many thousands whose contributions have helped to fund vital work throughout the capital region over the years.

As we begin a new era of ministry support, this may be the year you decide to increase your gift. If so, we invite you to consider membership in The Crosier Society (for those whose gifts total $500 or more), or The Bishop Stanley Joseph Ott Society (a tribute to the BAA's visionary founder, for parishioners whose gifts total $1,000 or more). We encourage you to Be Merciful. "Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful" (Lk 6:36).

Remember, the Lord blesses the Diocese of Baton Rouge through the BAA because of the shared commitment of every participant. We invite you to prayerfully consider a gift by donating online at www.baabr.org or responding to the recent mailing from Bishop Muench. Together, we can accomplish much, and that is the legacy of the BAA.

“Brothers and sisters: let us give thanks to the Father, who has made you fit to share in the inheritance of the holy ones in

light.” (Colossians 1:12-20) Dear Friends, This week brings us to the Solemnity of Christ the King. This would also be the thirty-fourth week in Ordinary Time. For me, this feast always signals the beginning of holiday time and the coming season of Advent. As we gather together with families and friends this week for Thanksgiving, please know how thankful I am for each and everyone of you and that you will be in my prayers both at the table in church and the table in our home. It will once again be something special for me to gather with my family around the table that my Dad himself built. I know it’s probably a tall order, but our Advent time will call us to a spirit of quiet preparation. I hope that we can all find a little bit of quiet time in our daily lives as we make the journey to Christmas time and a new year. Again, you remain in my prayers. Looking back on last weekend, I wanted to take a moment here and say thank you to all of you who were able to come out and join us for our school auction! We were blessed with incredible weather, and our “night under the lights” proved to be a wonderful time of fellowship and working together for our school. To our auction committee, THANK YOU! I am so grateful to all of you for your time and sacrifice in planning and carrying out the event. This was the first time in many, many years that our parish has had an auction as an event separate from our annual fair. Many have rated it a huge success, as do I. To our committee, and especially to our sponsors, to all of you who joined us for the evening, and those who purchased items—I thank you. When our final figures are compiled, I look forward to sharing with you how we did. Again, the proceeds from the auction will go to our school to help with outdoor lighting, restrooms, and athletics. Thank you to all of you, and thank you to God for the beautiful weather! Sincerely yours, Fr. Trey Nelson, Pastor

“Flooded With Love” A Morning of Healing Prayer for Flood Survivors

In the aftermath of the recent flood, the physical, emotional and spiritual scars from that traumatic experience cry out for healing. This morning of prayer will focus on the healing ministry of Jesus, as recorded in the Gospels, with a plea for His healing ministry in our own lives. The Gospels record 31 instances of Jesus healing various individuals. It is obvious from these healing accounts that Jesus' unconditional love for us impels him to grant us whatever healing we need to draw closer to Him and to serve as his disciples. This Morning of Healing Prayer is co-sponsored by the Archdiocese of New Orleans Retreat Center and the Office of Marriage and Family Life of the Diocese of Baton Rouge. This prayer experience will be led by Fr. Doug Doussan, the resident Chaplain for the Retreat Center. It will be held on Saturday, December 3rd from 9 AM to Noon in the Parish Hall at St. Jean Vianney Church at 16166 South Harrell’s Ferry Road. The event is free, but you are asked to call the Office of Marriage and Family Life at (225) 242-0323 to reserve a seat.

family number and a gift “wish.”

• Take one or more ornaments off the tree beginning

November 14th. • Purchase the item listed on the ornament.

(The gender of the recipient is listed, followed by his/her age.)

• Wrap the gift and tape the ornament firmly on the outside of the package for identification and sorting.

• Bring the wrapped gift or gifts to the church office or place them under the Christmas trees in the church before Masses by December 6th.

***Please, please be prompt so that we know if any gift request has not been filled. Thank you

for your sacrifice and loving support of this annual program.***
