Introduction.

The solar system is an amazing place. Although we have only found life on earth people have always dreamed of extra-terrestrial activity. The aliens in doctor who for example, are imaginary but that doesn’t mean there’s no life out there…

The Sun.

• The Sun is the biggest star in our solar system.

• The Sun was created in a vast cloud of gas and dust around 5 billion years ago.

• In approximately 5 billion years the sun will die, however it will take about 1 billion years to turn into a white dwarf.

• The planets in our solar system all orbit the sun

Mars

• One Mars year is 686.98 earth days long.

• One mars day, one rotation, is 24 hours and 37minutes long.

• Mars is 142 million miles from the sun!

• It has the largest mountain in the solar system, twice the height of Mount Everest!

• It also has the largest canyon, which is 2600 miles long!

Saturn

• One of Saturn’s years is 10,759.2 days long and one day is ten hours and fifteen minutes long!

• Saturn is the second largest planet after Jupiter. It is 888 million miles from the sun.

• Its rings are made out of rocks and ice in its orbit.

• Its core is 1,700 degrees Celsius!
