With strong lines and sharp angles, the Octavia’sdesign promises to remain timeless and elegant inyears to come. Whilst the broad fascia brings a strongroad presence, the streamlined side profile hides thecavernous space within.

Proudly wearing ŠKODA’s new black and chrome logo, the interplay of light and darkness continuesthroughout the exterior of the car. The strong,dynamic shoulder line is complimented by the uniqueflourish at the base of the window line, creating theshape of an aeroplane tail fin on the hatch, whichhints towards the advanced technology found inside.

Bi-Xenon headlights. The optimalillumination of the Bi-Xenon headlights isenhanced by the AFS which changes thelight setting depending of the car’s speedand weather conditions. Bi-Xenonheadlights provide 2.5 times theillumination of halogen headlights.

Telescopic front headlightwashers. Standard on Scout,Elegance, Laurin & Klementand vRS, optimise your frontlights' range by keeping thefront panels clean of dirt anddebris.

LED rear lights. The two rearbands of light creating thedistinctly ŠKODA “C” shape can be enhanced with LED's.Standard on Laurin & Klementand vRS and optional on SE,Scout, GreenLine and Elegance.

Adjustable driver’s seat. To allow you to get as safe and comfortable as possible, your Octavia will have a height adjustabledriver’s seat. The different trim levels thenhave additional features (some standard,some optional) such as height adjustablepassenger seat, lumbar support, electricadjustments and materials ranging fromdurable cloth through to sumptuous leather.

For maximum comfort on longjourneys, both front and reararmrests are available*. The

adjustable front armrest iscombined with a handy storage

box, whilst the rear armrestfeatures adjustable cup holders

and also load-through accessinto the boot.

Air conditioning. Depending on trim, your Octavia will eitherbe equipped with manual air conditioning or dual-zone airconditioning with humidity control. Dual-zone allows the driver and front seat passenger to set different temperatures for optimalcomfort whilst the humidity sensor directs the airflow as required to keep the windscreen fog free.Steering wheels. Height and reach adjustable, high quality

leather steering wheels are standard across the Octavia range,with controls for the radio and telephone standard on Scout,Elegance, Laurin & Klement and vRS. For an added sporty feelingand drive a 3 spoke Supersport steering wheel is available. On models equipped with DSG, paddles can also be ordered, allowing you to control both entertainment and gear shift.

For those who love theirmusic, the standard 8 speaker sound systemon the Octavia can be upgraded to a Cantonsound system* which adds a central speakerto the dash and a subwoofer in the boot.Canton also adds a digital equaliser andsound level controls allowing spacialoptimisation for all or individual occupants,vehicle noise cancellation and when addedin combination with a Columbus satellitenavigation, the ability to play Dolby 5.1surround sound. Canton sound system isstandard on Laurin & Klement.

Trip computers. A number of trip computeroptions are available in the Octavia range.

The comprehensive trip computer on S trimwhich details fuel consumption, averagespeed and distance until the fuel tank is

empty is enhanced to Maxi DOT in the SE,GreenLine and vRS trim. Maxi DOT with its

larger display provides additional informationsuch the oil temperature and details of the

vehicle’s status as well as the ability todisplay phone, audio, assistant system or

navigation data. Elegance, Scout and Laurin& Klement trims feature a colour Maxi DOT

showing clearer, colour displays.

Bluetooth® connectivity to make hands-free calls andstream music is standard across the Octavia range. Unlike

the previous generations this Bluetooth® system iscapable of remembering up to 20 Bluetooth® devices

that have been previously paired including 4 phones. Theinternal phone book can store 2,000 contacts for each

phone, with up to 5 numbers for each contact – ensuringyour social life really is at your fingertips. For those who

want an upgraded reception or struggle with battery life,Bluetooth®+ is available.* By placing your phone in thespecial Bluetooth®+ compartment in front of the gear

The all-new infotainment systems on the Octavia are a significant step forward in the field ofmultimedia systems. The car stereo, navigation system and trip computer are no longer standalonedevices, but are wrapped up in one system giving the driver access to the vehicle setup, drive assistantsystems and comfort functions through a single device. Proximity sensors recognise when a hand ismoving toward the touchscreen and bring up the function buttons ready to be used, whilst intuitiveswiping and pinching movements allow the user to scroll menus and zoom into maps easily.

Crew protection assistant uses information from the car’s braking andelectronic systems to recognise when there is a high chance of a collision.

If this is detected, the front seatbelts will tighten and the sunroof andwindows will close (leaving a 55mm gap) to help keep the car’s occupants in

the optimum position for airbag deployment and reduce items flying into thecar. Sporty drivers who prefer to desensitise the Crew protection assistant

can change these settings on their touchscreen display.

Please note that all assistant systems are a driver's aid and do not replace human judgement. The driver must be in full control of the vehicle at all times and has full responsibility for the car.

Fatigue sensor. Standard fromSE is a Driver fatigue sensor.This monitors the movement ofthe driver through the steeringwheel and if the driver beginsto display signs of tiredness,the car will audibly alert thedriver with a tone and show abreak recommendation alert onthe Maxi DOT.

Prefill, a smart element of the ESC system is the prefill feature. Your Octaviawill recognise when your foot has beenabruptly lifted off the accelerator andanticipates that this may be followed by a sharp depression of the brake pedal. To prepare for this braking, the carautomatically increases pressure in thebrake system by “prefilling” the brakehydraulics with fluid. It also brings thebrake pads closer to the discs. This speedsup the braking effect for optimal stopping.

ESC (Electronic stability control) isstandard in the Octavia and delivers anumber of systems to help maintain thecar’s stability in braking and emergencysituations. For information on all thefeatures within the ESC system, pleasesee page 50.

Automatic post collision braking system (MKB).In the event of a crash, the Automatic post

collision braking system, standard on all Octavias,will be activated. This recognises when an impact

has occurred and brakes the car to prevent itbeing uncontrollably propelled into oncoming

traffic, reducing the risk of further crashes. Thecar will brake to 6mph and also activate the

hazard and brake lights.

Front assist. Standard on Elegance and Laurin & Klement is Front assist. This safety system works using a radar sensor located in the lower front grille which monitors the area in front of car and evaluates the distance,direction and speed of all nearby objects. Using predefined algorithms it decides whether these objects pose apotential risk of collision and alerts the driver (with a tone and on the Maxi DOT initially and then a warning jolt of the brakes) if the distance to the object is insufficient. If the driver takes insufficient action to brake, the carwill brake itself, all the way to a standstill if needed. This system can be turned off by the driver using thetouchscreen display.

DRIVING ASSISTANT SYSTEMS• INTELLIGENT LIGHT ASSISTANT • PARK ASSIST• KESSY • LANE ASSIST

Intelligent light assistant*. Using a camera mounted behind the rear view mirror, the Intelligentlight assistant* monitors light levels and determines what level of lighting is required. The carthen turns on the headlights or if required, the high beams. Should another vehicle’s lights bespotted by the camera (either in front or moving in the opposite direction) or the light levelsimprove sufficiently, the car will automatically turn down the high beams. To activate thisfunction the headlight switch must be sent to “auto” and the left stalk on the steering columnbe moved forwards.

Park assist. For those wishing to make both parallel parking and bay parking easier than ever, Park assist can be added to the Octavia and is standardon Laurin & Klement. With a press of a button, the system will begin searching for a parking space in a line of cars or other obstacles. When a suitablespace is found (the car’s length + 60cm is all the space needed), the car will steer itself into the space whilst the driver controls the pedals. This systemwill now also steer the car out of a line of cars from its parking space and with two presses of the same button, the car will search for and manoeuvreinto a bay parking space.

Driving mode selection. Standardfrom SE, Driving mode selection

allows the driver to adapt the car’sbehaviour to their preference or

needs. Four driving modes areavailable; normal, sport, eco andindividual (allowing the driver to

configure their own settings). Thecar will then adapt the enginetorque, accelerator sensitivity,

power steering, headlight control(where AFS is fitted), DSG

transmission, and air conditioningto suit the profile selected.

Performance mode selection. The Drivingmode selection has been further enhanced for

vRS with the introduction of a PerformanceSound Generator. When the vRS mode button

is selected this will also change the car'ssound generator levels. It spreads vibrations

directly through the vehicle body andwindscreen. The frequency and volume is

dependent on the mode selected, rotationspeed, car speed and accelerator position.

Keyless Entry and Start System (KESSY) can

be added to the Octavia to allow the driver to

lock and unlock the car and start and stop the

engine without having to insert or even

handle the key. As long as the key is within

1.5m of the sensor, the system will work and

a number of clever features ensure you can

check the lock, prevent you from locking the

key inside and stop unwanted access.

Intelligent assistanceLane assist*. The Lane assist uses the camera behind the rear view mirror torecognise lane markings and help keep thedriver within the lane, preventing drifting and potential collisions. When adequate lanemarkings are identified the dashboard light will turn green and the car will be kept in the centre of the lane, even through corners, with small corrections of the steering wheel.Should the driver wish to move out of the lane,the system will recognise the indicator andmovement and allow the corrections tobe overridden. The system can be deactivatedpartially or fully using the touchscreen display.

wheels with low rollingresistance tyres have a

higher prescribed airpressure to reduce friction.

The Start-Stop system standard acrossthe Octavia range, automatically switchesoff the engine, for example while waitingat the traffic lights. By pressing the clutchpedal the engine automatically restarts.

Energy recovery further assists this byenabling effective use of the car’s kineticenergy for battery recharging.

ABS: the anti-lock braking systemprevents the wheels from lockingduring heavy or emergency braking,enabling the vehicle to remainsteerable. When braking, wheel speed sensors measure the roadwheel speed and should one or more wheels start to lock the systemreduces brake pressure to that wheel.

Elements of the ABS System :-• Dual Rate Vacuum Brake Boosters:

increases brake effort underemergency braking conditions.

• EBC: Electronic brake control. The engine brake torque controlregulates the power supply byintervening with the enginemanagement system.

• EBD (aka EBV): Electronic BrakeDistribution automaticallydistributes different pressures tothe front and rear brakes to stop therear wheels from locking up underheavy braking. It also compensatesfor loaded and unloaded vehiclestherefore doing away with the needfor a Load Sensing Valve on the rear axle.

CAN Bus: the CAN Bus is anelectronic data bus which links thevarious different electronic controlsystems in the car. It ensures ideal co-ordination between systems andreduces the amount of wiring neededin the car.

Fuel cut-out: should one or more ofthe airbags inflate after an accident,this system automatically cuts outthe fuel supply, thus preventingsubsequent leakage of the diesel or petrol.

Trip Computer: the trip computer notonly features an impressive range ofdata displays, operating it is simplicityitself. A multifunction touch keyenables you to call up all relevant dataon the easy-to-read display. Featuresinclude external temperature, time,current fuel consumption, averagefuel consumption, miles driven andaverage speed.

DPF: Diesel particulate filter is part ofthe exhaust system responsible forcleaning the engine exhaust gasesbefore they enter the atmosphere.The DPF catches soot particlesemitted in the exhaust gas and itworks in conjunction with thecatalytic converter, which reduces the amount of harmful gases enteringthe atmosphere. The DPF mustperiodically be emptied of the sootparticles, a process known asregeneration. This involves elevatedexhaust system temperatures. A driving style is required duringregeneration, where a constantvehicle speed above 37 mph must bemaintained. This does not always suitcustomers who make frequent shortjourneys or experience stop/startdriving or drive within inner-city orurban areas.

Bi-Xenon lights: Bi-Xenon lightsproduce about 2.5 times the lightof standard Halogen lights with35% less energy consumption.

CR: all of the Octavia's diesel enginesare built on a system of Common-Railfuel injection. The diesel engineshave a high-pressure common raildirect injection fuel system and four-valve technology. As a result, the newengines are much quieter, morerefined in their operation andconsume less fuel, compared to the Pump Duse engines availablepreviously and significantly reduceemissions.

AFS: Adaptive front light system is afeature of Bi-Xenons and allows thelight beam to adapt to the car'sspeed, direction and the weatherconditions. Urban driving emits ashorter, wider beam whilst fasterdriving emits a longer beam.Cornering function sees the beamturn up to 15 degrees in direction ofthe steering wheel's turn. The beamwill also adjust according to car load,acceleration and wet weather toprevent dazzling oncoming vehicles.

ESC: Electronic Stability Control is designed to stabilise the dynamichandling response of the vehicle bycounteracting any tendency towardsoversteer or understeer. The ESCconstantly compares the actualmovement of the vehicle withpredetermined values and accordingto the situation ESC reacts by brakingeach wheel individually (according todirection of slip) and automaticallyadjusting the engine’s output.

Elements of ESC system:-

• ASR: Anti-slip regulation tractioncontrol ensures the Octavia’sstability when pulling away oraccelerating. If the engine power or torque being transmitted to the drive wheels is too great, forexample on a slippery road surface,engine torque is automaticallyreduced until optimum road holdingreturns, thus preventing wheelspin.A light indicates whether the ASRsystem is on. It can be manuallyswitched off.

• MSR: the engine torque controlsystem recognises when the wheelsare subject to too much slippageand regulates the power supply by intervening in the enginemanagement system. This preventswheelspin when, for example,changing down on a smooth or wetroad surface. MSR is a constituentpart of the ASR system.

• EDS: the electronic differential lockcontinually compares the rpm of thedrive wheels, and if it identifies adifference between them whichcould lead to an individual wheelspinning, for example if the twowheels are on different types ofsurface or accelerating on wetleaves, the system brakes the wheelaffected until uniform rpm of alldrive wheels is restored.

• HBA: Hydraulic brake assistantincreases the optimal build-up ofbrake power. It ensures complete useof the brake system potential, thusshortening the braking distance.

• DSR: Driver SteeringRecommendation – in a crisissituation it helps the driver stabilizea skid by making a slight interventionin the steering.

• ESBS: Electronic Stability BrakeSystem – targeted interventions in the braking process improve thehandling of a car as it brakes whenpassing round a bend and keeps itfrom veering.

• XDS: XDS provides neutral balance in dynamic driving whenaccelerating through corners. Byapplying a slight braking pressure onthe inner wheel, torque is increasedon the outer wheel. This preventswheel spinning and reduces anytendency to under steer, allowingthe driver to experience a moreagile, precise and calming drivingexperience with better traction outof bends.

Warranty

Exclusions and limitationsWear and tear components will only be considered under the terms of thewarranty for the first of six months or 6,500 miles, whichever is soonest. These include, but are not limited to brake linings and disc pads, clutch releasebearings, clutch pressure plates and centre plates, tyres, wiper blades, seat andbackrest covers, floor coverings, spark plugs, batteries for key fobs and alarms, light bulbs and shock absorbers.

Mechanical adjustments including but not limited to adjustments to doors, flaps, boot lids, bonnets and sunroof, brake adjustment, clutch adjustment, v belt adjustment, ignition adjustment, headlight adjustment, steering geometry adjustments and wheel balancing are excluded.

Damage (including but not limited to the following) is excluded:

> Damage caused by your failure to take all reasonable steps to prevent mechanical damage from occurring.

> Damage or defects caused by not having the vehicle serviced in accordance with the manufacturer’s guidelines.

> Damage or defects caused by improper use of the vehicle, neglect or use of the vehicle for motor sports activities.

> Damage caused by an accident.> Damage to paintwork or chrome caused by external influences,

such as climatic, chemical or industrial pollution.> Damage resulting from the use of non-original replacement parts.

Routine maintenance and servicing is not covered by the warranty. Incidental or consequential costs such as hotel charges, car hire, loss of personal effects or income are not recoverable under theterms of the warranty.

Service Intervals

When you order your Octavia, you can choose whether your car is on a fixed or aflexible service regime. Your retailer will help you decide which regime suits howyour car will be driven, enabling your car to stay in the best possible shape.

Fixed regime: Service every 10,000 miles or one year (whichever comes first). This is recommended if the vehicle is likely to be used in the following way:

> Driven fewer than 10,000 miles per annum and/or> Mainly short journeys, drive mostly in towns or cities and/or> High vehicle loading/towing and frequent hill climbs and/or> Heavy accelerating and braking, using high revs

Flexible regime: Sensors in the engine detect when a service is needed. You willbe informed of this by a service light which will show at any point between 9,000and 20,000 miles, up to 24 months (whichever comes first).

The flexible service regime is recommended for vehicles with a daily mileage ofmore than 25 miles where the vehicle is driven regularly and mainly at a constantspeed with minimum vehicle and engine loading, minimal towing and driven in aneconomical manner.

To find out how much tax you will pay,simply take the P11D value, then multiplythis figure by the BiK percentage. Thensimply multiply this figure by 20% or 40%depending on the level of income tax thatyou pay.

Please note if your employer provides youwith free fuel, this is treated as anadditional taxable benefit.
