Rotary year 2019-2020 Fond memories:

1. Receiving the I Love Trash Award from the City of Kirksville for the South Baltimore highway cleanup we did chaired by Barbara Smith Mandell on a hot summer Saturday morning.

2. Bringing back the Duck Dash and loading hundreds of ducks and equipment in Randy Smith’s truck after he and I met with RSVP staff.

3. Starting a brand new fundraiser, with the Flying the Flag project thanks to Jeff Romine and all flag committee members.

4. Blanket project on a cold January morning with ATSU and other local Rotarians for local people in need.

5. Being awarded the District Grant of $27,650 for the Rotary Playscape and partnering with the other 2 local Rotary Clubs. Standing in the cold one snowy November afternoon to kick off the grant project.

6. Hosting the District Governor on October 1st and along with some members from all three local Rotary clubs showing him what a Rotary town Kirksville is. Others helping included, Olivia Gooch, president of Truman Rotaract, many ATSU Rotaract members, Chiara Gramillao, our club’s high school exchange student, and our own social committee’s all showed great hospitality.

7. Receiving certificates and pins in my mailbox from Rotary International to award to all the very generous Paul Harris Fellows in our club.

8. Carl Chinnery read Dr. Seuss to us during his visit to Kirksville that helped obtain your generous donations to Polio Plus of over $15,000.

9. Barbara Smith Mandell collecting funds and giving a sweet baby gift to our server, Dylin, for her new baby.

10.All the efforts Michelle Lawrence made to accomplish all the goals of this year’s Literacy challenge

11. Hosting the GSE Team from the Dominican Republic in October. 12.Giving 3 international scholarships to Truman students from Nepal and getting to

know them. 13.Starting a new category of membership: the corporate membership. Welcoming

new members who have immediately stepped up to active rolls on committees and into leadership positions.

On March 18th the world changed. In the first Serving Tray Claire and I put together we included these encouraging words from Erick Hanson:

This is a time that we as Rotarians need to step up in our community and help wherever we are needed. Please let us know where we can volunteer to help within our community during these interesting times. I strongly feel the Rotarians need to be leading the way for our community during this time. Through all of the challenges stay positive and remember the 4-way test!

Our Club stepped up as Rotarians and continued to help our community in many ways. Since March 18th we:

1. Donated elastic to help volunteers sew 75 fabric masks

2. Spent many hours volunteering at the Rotary Playscape including helping with the log placement, grading, hauling tree limbs, getting tons of stone delivered and 20 dump truck loads of dirt.

3. Installing our benches and obtaining our tables and chairs for Rotary Park 4. Donating $1500 to the Shoes for Orphan Soles campaign 5. Selling 107 subscriptions to our Flying the Flag project. 6. Getting our “ducks in a row” for our 2020 Duck Dash 7. Providing $600 of HyVee grocery cards to International students in need at

Truman. 8. Awarded $750.00 scholarships to high school seniors: Caleb Flaim and Elyse

Johnson. 9. Pledging $500 to the Panama Global Grant Project 10.Completed our regular Baltimore Cleanup

We have continued our tradition of service above self even through this pandemic. Thank you to all of you for your generosity and your volunteer time and your friendship!
