Control Codes

• Allocate sequential number initially with controls descriptions in the field (form)

• Allocate codes when courses are finalised• Avoid putting sequential control numbers

together.• Also on control descriptions

Page 8: The Role of the Planner

Starts

• On a mapped feature• TD1-3 need to be a line feature• TD1-2 need to be at a junction• Ideally TD1-2 course set off north• Don’t set first leg option back through the

start• Somewhere to warm up• Distance to start??

Finish

• If using “navigate to finish” it must be on a mapped feature

• If not adjacent to download, man it-safety• Finish low and near assembly

Page 10: The Role of the Planner

Safety

• Road crossing-better manned especially for children

• Crags –controls should not be approached from above-terrain, visibility ( yellow tape)

• River- potential flooding• Inclement weather-forecast• You- who know you are out there

Planning process

• Set a reasonable time frame which allow for thing going wrong

• Don’t put yourself under pressure -enjoy• Car parking/assembly location• Be careful with TD1 -2 courses• Look for good legs and then plan the courses.• Previous event at the same location?• Minimise the number of controls
