The Role of Principals

• In the 21st Century, technology has changedthe ways in which we communicate and goabout our lives. Very few educators woulddisagree with the notion that technology hasdramatically changed the teaching andlearning process.

• Since education is the preparation for workand life, education must also transform tomeet new 21st Century demands.”

….

The most important attribute of an effective ICT Change agent is…

“..to lead not just support the integration

of ICT into teaching and learning”

(Kathryn Moyle 2006 Voices from the profession)

"... it ought to be remembered that there is nothing more difficult to take in hand, more dangerous to conduct, or more uncertain in its success, than to take the lead in the introduction of a new order of things, because the innovator has: for enemies: all those who have done well under the old conditions, lukewarm defenders: in those who may do well under the new."

PSSST, How do you turn

this thing on??

There is a real need to….

• Integrate technology in teaching, learning and administration.

• Let technology work for us, make us more efficient and effective.

• Use technology to inform our decisions.

• Never loose sight of the educational objective in the use of ICT.

“You don't buy a drill bit because you want a drill bit; you buy it because you want a hole of specific size and depth.”

You don't buy technology because you want technology You buy it because you want a more effective school.

Having computers on every desk is not a goal.

These may be means to reach a goal, but they are not the goal itself.

• Make sure that ICT’s at schools are well managed and maintained.

• Support the integration of ICT’s in teaching and learning to improve teacher effectiveness and enhance learner performance.

• Expand /create/facilitate opportunities for teacher learning and professional development.
