The programme is for the first generation learners and reach to community who are away from mainstream education, beneficiaries are mainly the children of rag & waste pickers or the ones working on daily wages. Many children who got benefited out of the programme used to be slum dwellers, rag & waste pickers. Currently, Nidan is running 40 pre-primary centres which provide pre-primary education to all children in the 3-6 years of age group living in the slum areas of Patna. The programme covers mainly providing pre-primary education or getting the children enrolled in Govt. Schools. We also work closely with the UNICEF, BEP, ICDS and other agencies like SCERT in curriculum development.

Major Components Covered:

Currently We covered 15th ward and 40 slum and approx 13225 child covered till March-17. in direct intervention program at Patna urban..

Pre-Primary learning Centers for 3-6 Years age group:

-provide pre-primary education

All children of 6 years and above enrolled in the nearest Government school

In the intervention slum, each child of 3-14 years of age tracked for the academic performance and school regularity on a household basis

Linkage between Aanganwadi centers and nearest Government schools as well as the VSS strengthened

Our Preprimary center Goals & Purpose:-

Over 95% children of 3-6 years in intervened slums are linked to government schools, ICDS centers, Balwadi and Nidan centers.

To achieve universal access to education among 3-6 years old children in the slum wards under coverage

To enroll all children of the 6-14 years age group in government schools, especially those who are out of school

100% enrolment in all 40 direct intervention slums

Community Participation in govt. school.

• To achieve universalization of early childhood education for 3-6 year old children from economically weaker sections

• To facilitate better access of children from economically weaker sections to Government schools

• To contain learning deficit in Primary schools by providing preparatory skills to 3-6 year old children.

Pre Primary schools, Coverage and process:

• Teachers goes to Children house in community before class to prepare the child neatly dressed and ensure 100% attendance of the children and after class help the children reach their home safely.

• Community engagement in mobilization of children and enrolment in nidan run centers.

• School readiness – school prepaird

• . Provide cognitive and preparatory skills to pre-primary education children of 3-6 years of age through a specially designed curriculum based on activity based pedagogy.

• Facilitate the formation of Vidyalaya Shiksha Samiti (VSS) f or the schools related to these 40 slums. Conduct awareness campaigns about the Right to Education Act, 2010 for 3000 community members including

women, Youth and VSS members in these 40 slums.

• In the intervention slum, each child of 3-14 years of age tracked for the academic performance and school regularity on a household basis

• Training and support to Aanganwadi workers on pedagogy of early childhood development by facilitators from pre-primary centers and our intervention slum.

• Linkage between Aanganwadi centers and nearest Government schools as well as the VSS strengthened.

Why need Pre primery center in slum:- The beneficiaries are mainly the children of Rag, waste pickers or the ones working on daily wages. Many children who got benefited out of the programme were once themselves rag, waste pickers. Most of them are the slum dwellers.

Very huge gapes of learning in class 1 if child direct comes in Govt. school.

Change of Deficit in school is very high.

-        Routine immunization – with the support of local authority and Aganwari center, ANMs

-        Facilitators and Teachers workshop being organized for curriculum development and planning

-         Celebrate Bihar diwash, Education Fair, National Science day, Womens day, National Youth days and Republic Day at all centers

-          Routine immunization – all kids in the AWC 

-         TLM development in all centers.
