JabberwockyBY LEWIS CARROLL

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves      Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:All mimsy were the borogoves,      And the mome raths outgrabe.

“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!      The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun      The frumious Bandersnatch!”

He took his vorpal sword in hand;      Long time the manxome foe he sought—So rested he by the Tumtum tree      And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,      The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,      And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!He left it dead, and with its head      He went galumphing back.

“And hast thou slain the Jabberwock?      Come to my arms, my beamish boy!O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!”      He chortled in his joy.

’Twas brillig, and the slithy toves      Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:All mimsy were the borogoves,

And the mome raths outgrabe.Writing. Look at the Information text and the headings below of the ‘Jabberwock’

Over the week - Invent your own creature and plan in a grid format as shown in the example and with illustrations

Focus on one heading each day over the week e.g. Habitat, Diet etc. Focus on the introduction today. Can you use a rhetorical question to encourage the reader to read on? Look at the mix between the informal/formal language. Can you do this? Think about powerful exciting vocabulary too.

Project - Dinosaurs to Today or any ideas to do with Darwin/the Galapagos. Remember the series on CH4 Catchup My Family and the Galapagos. It may give you some ideas e.g. conservation, plastic pollution. 30 mins/day. PowerPoints can be a good idea. Some children in the class have already said they want to finish their models at home. Be creative!
