Summer is officially here as daily temper- atures rise into the high 90s. June start- ed out nice, but toward the end, with 98 degree days, made everyone run for shade. I was able to get to Stratmore Her- itage Manor for the show and shine we held for the seniors that reside there. We ended up with a total 6 cars at the event with 3 of them being classic cars. Thanks to Trey Luce, Fred Brown and Dennis Shoup for bringing out their classic Mus- tangs for the residents to reminisce over. Also thanks to the others with late model newer cars who came out. Some of the employees at Heritage Manor had late model Mustangs, and were asking advice about what to do with their cars. Since it was relatively early that Saturday morn- ing, the weather was nice and not yet too hot. Later that evening, I was able to get to Grace United Methodist Church on Ellerbe Road for their Father’s Day show. It was pretty hot out there on the black top park- ing lot, but that did not stop several club members from coming out and participat- ing. We had about 10 mustangs all in a row right out front of Ellerbe road. Thanks to all who came out to brave the heat. There were all kinds of cars out there, ratrods, Vipers, Mopars, even a motorcy- cle or two. As it got later in the evening, things started to cool off, but it was still pretty hot and humid. After the show was over at 7pm, some of the club members went on to Colliers Customs for their cruise in, but I decided to go home after being out in the heat all afternoon work- ing on my yard. We have a few things going on in July, specifically our fan drive for the Caddo council on aging. We plan to bring fans to the local TV station on Fairfield tentatively set for July 20th so look for more info on that. And as always the usual monthly events will continue throughout the sum- mer. Don’t forget our annual Mustang Round up show is happening on the 3rd Saturday in September, September 21st, which is just 3 months away. We are still in need of door prizes and goody bag stuffers. If you have any of these, bring them to the next club meeting, or contact a board member so we can collect them. See y’all out there! Happy July! I hope everyone is having a fun 4th week-

end.

Our Show is now just a little over two months away.

Each year, planning a show has its unique challenges

and, it does again this year. Who would have thought I

would still be planning our annual Round Up from so

many miles away! So, I would like to thank the Board of

Directors for stepping up and helping out with some

things I just cannot do from here.

That said, the Board cannot do everything. This Show

is a Club effort and I need everyone to sign up Sponsors,

collect door prizes, and gather goody bag stuffers

I will also need ALL Club members on hand the day of

the Show to keep things running as smoothly as possi-

ble. If you have had a specific job in the past, and are

happy with that position, I would like to keep you there

and have you help train new people. Nicole will have a

sign-up sheet available at the August meeting. I would

like for everyone to write themselves in so I have an idea

of where I still need volunteers.

As always, I need door prize donations. A door prize

can be anything. It does not have to be car related, but

it helps. PLEASE do not donate any item you would not

like to receive yourself. I hesitate to put a dollar amount

on items as you can get new things at garage sales,

swap meets, ebay, and etc inexpensively. You can also

get items donated from businesses. If you need a beg

letter in order for a local business to donate, please let

me know and I will get you one. Restaurant gift certifi-

cates are also highly encouraged!

This will be our 20th Annual Mustang Round Up. Let’s

make it the best one yet!

Thank you,

Erin

The Hot Rod Power Tour and the 4th Shelby Legacy

Bank Car Show.

June provided to be car crazy for the long haul gang.

Rob Widner had his Shelby GT500 on the dyno in Arling-

ton and it made 550+ HP at the rear wheels. We had

great weather for the drive. More than 5000 cars left UT

Arlington and it took seven hours to drive down hwy 80

to Texarkana. People lined the roads in lawn chairs and

took photos and waved as we passed. We stopped at

Carroll Shelby’s ranch in Pittsburg and took some pho-

tos. Most of the local club members has already left for

home when we arrived in Texarkana. Stephen Gayer

ended up talking to Vic Edelbrock for about an hour

while they took their tents down. We met up with some

East Texas Mustang Club folks and made pictures with

them. The next morning most of the gas stations were

out of premium fuel. We went on to Little Rock Arkansas

State Fairgrounds and you couldn’t put another car on

the property. It was really amazing. We came home with

a bunch of swag.

The Shelby show in Plano at Legacy Bank also provid-

ed good weather . We arrived about 9 a.m. and there

was a plethora of Cobras already on the site. I would

estimate 100 Cobras, and 200 Shelbys. The Shelby

truck from Vegas was there with the $80,000 Shelby

Raptor. That’s the nicest ½ ton truck I have ever seen.

Sean Shelby and his brother Aaron, Carroll’s grandsons

extended us a warm Texas welcome. They had goody

bags, free photos, free shirts and a live band. They gave

us coupons for free food and drinks, so we really just

needed to show up. The show was over at 2 p.m. and

we headed home.

Mustangs Mustangs and More Mustangs

That’s what we want people to say when they go to a local cruise

or show. The Mustang Club is growing by leaps and bounds with

new members joining at every meeting and I must say I am proud

to be a member of the best club in the city, The Red River Classic

Mustang Club. Welcome to all the new members that have joined

recently and we are glad the seasoned members keep coming back

for more fun. Before we get into the July schedule I must share

my experience at the June club picnic we had at Lake Bisteneau.

It was an absolute blast. Great food, fun, friends, and some inter-

esting conversation among those who stuck around for the entire

time. Thank you to all that came out to participate in the festivi-

ties and for sharing your food items with the club. We had a vari-

ety of treats from burgers to chocolate cake. Thank you to Ernie

and Sabrina Lane for getting everything set up for us and reserv-

ing the pavilion. Also, thank you to Ernie for taking on the role as

lead chef while Gene Brock was an excellent assistant chef. All in

all it was a fun day with horse shoes, corn hole, and even some

swimming at the park pool. We will be doing another picnic in

the fall when it cools off so make sure to attend the fall picnic if

you missed out.

Now let’s get to the July schedule. On Thursday July 4th is the

Longview, TX cruise night at the Whataburger on Gilmer Rd. Our

monthly club meeting will be the 6th at the Asbury Church on

Airline Dr next to the Walgreens. 5:00 pm. We will be cruising to

Tamolly's on Beene Blvd after the meeting for some yummy

Mexican food. On Saturday the 13th you have two choices you

can attend the Saline Watermelon Festival and Car show at the

Magnolia Baptist Church from 8:30-2pm $25.00 open class. Or

the Marshall TX cruise night will also be going on in Downtown

Marshall that evening. If you want a good parking spot on the

main street you will want to arrive in Marshall before 4:00 pm.

People start arriving around 2 pm. Our monthly board meeting

that is open to all members will be Wednesday the 17th 6:30 pm

Reed Industrial off of Mt. Zion Rd. Saturday the 20th we are

meeting to deliver the fans for the Caddo Council of Aging Fan

Drive at 11:30. We are meeting at Mall St. Vincent then cruising

together over to KSLA Channel 12 to deliver the fans. We are

hoping for a little air time for our community involvement. But

don't put those ponies away after we cruise to lunch because the

third Saturday Collier's Cruise night will be that evening from 6-8

pm. Come out and support a local cruise night. Last but not least

we get to the fourth Saturday of the month the 27th. We start off

the 27th with BreakFast and Fast Rides. This month we will be

having BreakFast at Krispy Kreme on Youree Drive in front of

Lowe's from 9-11 am. Come hungry, bring your ride, and bring a

friend with a ride. All cars, trucks, bikes, and SUVs are welcome

import and domestic the more the merrier. Then at 3:00 The As-

bury Motor Club will be heading out on their cruise to dinner and

a devotion. Location of dinner is TBA. I hope everyone is having

a great summer and Happy Fourth of July. Remember if anyone

knows of an event or has a dinner location idea please let me

know. I can be reached by email or telephone. I respond the best

to text. 318-470-7581. Keep those ponies shined up, gassed up,

and pounding the pavement.

M CA N E W S The show season is now is full swing. Hope all are having a fun time even though at times it can be so hot.

Drink lots of liquids while out.

As I stated in the last newsletter, hotel and car registration can now be made for the 50th celebration that will

be held in April 2014. Why talk about this so early? Well if you delay, you run the risk of not getting a reservation.

Past experiences have taught us to do so early. Don't miss out on a trip of a lifetime. We always have a great

time. When you pull up the website, you have many options on the car registration. If you find you can't attend,

you can order an anniversary goody bag. I think it's $50. There will also be other 50th items that will be coming

soon. Again the website is: http://www.mustang50thbirthdaycelebration.com

Before we came to LA, I told Max that I've always regretted selling my first mustang. He told me to I could try to

find another one. We soon got the 68 coupe. I also stated that one day I would have all the body styles of the clas-

sics. Just two weeks before we moved to LA my daughter, Ala, saw this sweet 66 convertible. Knowing that I

couldn't use these two as daily drivers, I thought why couldn't my daily driver be a mustang. The 90 5.0 came into

our family. After a few years of being here, my quest for the third classic body style was still alive and well. The 66

fast back soon joined our family. There was still one missing. The Shelby. History lesson: In 1993 I had the

chance to buy a classic Shelby for $17,000 and at the time Max said, "No way will I pay that much money for a

used car!" He learned the error of his statement. That car can now go for over $350,000. Not too long ago I was

on my way to the bank and I just happened to glance across the street to the Chevy used

car lot and spotted a beautiful 2008 Shelby on the lot. Road trip for after work. Long sto-

ry short, after Kevin Reeves gave me his okay that the car was in great shape, Max gave

in. Some of us have names for our cars. I'm one of them. 68' is Blue Baby, 66' converti-

ble is Lil'Bit, 66' fastback is Blue Lady, 90' convertible is Big Daddy. As for the newest in

our collection, that one is yet to be determined. Collection complete? Max sure hopes

so.

See you on the road
