Les enfants terribLes are Proud to announce…

The Wright Brothers, Pleasance Courtyard, 5-27 Aug 13:30

1) New frINge AwArd The Les enfants Terribles Awardwho for?New companies producing original work, wishing to perform at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.why?Oliver Lansley set up Les Enfants Terribles ten years ago “with no money, no connections and no idea what I was doing.” Now he wishes this award “to reward people for their artistic merit and ambition, putting the focus very much on the practical aptitude of creating theatre as opposed to the often long winded and administrative process of finding funding.”how?By offering a cash injection of £1000, setting up a guaranteed slot at Pleasance Edinburgh and providing mentoring and support. Appplications will be accepted from 1st September, then five shortlisted companies will be notified in December. In early 2012 a winner will be selected by judges from a showcase of those five. For application details email [email protected]

2) LAuNch collected Plays bookA company with such momentum as Les Enfants Terribles occasionally needs to take stock of their art and progress. Followers, fans and the curious will be delighted, then, with this new publication. collected plays compiles The Terrible Infants (2007), Ernest and the Pale Moon (2008) and The Vaudevillains (2011), each play featuring a specially-written introduction. The beautifully presented book additionally features documentation of the company’s path so far, detailed production photography (design being so integral to the company’s work) and original design sketches. Oliver Lansley: Les Enfants Terribles; Collected Plays will be launched at 11am this Friday 26th in Brooke’s Bar, Pleasance Dome. The book is available now at bookstores and online.

3) reTurN of The InfantThe Infant, which premiered here at Edinburgh Festival Fringe, returns to Pleasance for a full run. The play, dealing with paranoia, intimidation and suspicion, has been re-staged in the now inimitable Les Enfants Terribles visual style.

in defence of... aViationNowadays you’ve got to be

conscious of your carbon footprint in the sky. Flying has come under fire for its detrimental effect on the planet with flights so common place that they number approximately 80,000 commercial flights a day.

The problem is that we take for granted not only the environmental effect, but the skill that it takes to put an aircraft in the air. Perhaps we’d rather not think about it as our plane takes off and we tell ourselves not to question how something so big could seemingly defy gravity.

Come and rediscover the inspiring achievement of Orville and Wilbur

Wright. the wright brothers is a two-man show which demonstrates the skill and passion that produced the first ever flight.

The world thought the problem of flight was too great for one man - but Orville and Wilbur were brothers and they needed both Wilbur’s mathematical mind and Orville’s passionate daring to achieve the impossible. The Wright Brothers is sure to renew your appreciation of flight.

So next time you’re boarding a plane, you can be glad it’s no longer powered by bike chains – but instead appreciate the great minds of Orville and Wilbur who taught the world to fly.
