FAITHFUL NAVIGATORS REPORT Ken Schmitt....................201-307-9637 Sir Knights, Greetings, Brother Sir Knights! Well, it’s Autumn - even though the temperatures seem to indicate otherwise. If you
love the Summer, thank God for the extension you are getting. If you love the Fall, thank God that it is just around the
corner. Either way – Thank God!!
I had the pleasure today of going to see the football game at West Point. It’s been a number of years since I have done
that and I was happy to do it again, especially as I went with some Brothers from our Council. We all had a great time. Army won
(always a plus). We had a lot of laughs; good food; nice weather. All in all – a really wonderful day at an historic location so vital in
our Country’s development. A place that has seen the likes of Lee, Grant, Patton, Eisenhower, Bradley, Schwarzkopf, and countless
other military leaders that helped shape our Great Nation. A place where, as a civilian visiting for the day, the military personal you
meet while moving around the campus are pleasant, and polite, and address you as “Sir”, or “Ma’am” – always respectful. A place
where people actually sing the national anthem because they want to (and perhaps because the band and glee club perform it in such a
manner as to encourage people to sing along, as opposed to some of our “professional” singers who seem to want to make our
National Anthem their own composition). And it’s a place where a paratrooper gracefully glides into the stadium with an American
flag in tow, flapping in the wind, and a team of cadets wait on the ground to ensure that our beloved flag does not touch the ground
when the paratrooper finally lands. It is a place where our Patriotism is Alive and Well and on Full Display! I felt so proud! God Bless
this great nation and the good principles that we stand for.
I thank all of you who attended our Business Meeting in September at Washington Township. We had some very good discussion that
impacts our Assembly and I hope that you continue to share your thoughts in the meeting. I know we ran a little longer than normal
but your opinions, and your ideas, matter. And while I’ll endeavor to move things along at a quicker pace in the future, I want us to
talk about what it is important to you. Everyone’s opinions and suggestions need to be heard. And before I move on, I’d like to thank
our Brothers from Mother Seton Council for hosting us. Thank you for your hospitality!
Please continue to share our upcoming events with your Councils. Keep trying to get a few more knights to join you at the meetings
and events coming up. Talk about them with your Councils. Invite them to join you. We have plenty coming up to rally Knights to.
Here again, are the upcoming events…
Tuesday, October 24th
– October Business Meeting in Upper Saddle River at 8pm.
Sunday, November 19th
– 4th Degree Exemplification and Military Ball, at La Neve’s in Haledon. This date will sneak up on us so
start recruiting Council members now to join the 4th
Degree. You’ll need to bring Form 4’s to our next Business Meeting on October
24th
.
Tuesday, November 28th
at 8pm will be our Joseph F. Lamb Assembly Memorial Mass. All of us have deceased members of our
Councils who took pride in being a Sir Knight. Come to this Mass and honor them, as you hope to be honored some day. We are
planning to have this Mass in Our Lady of Good Council Church in Washington Twp. Watch for more details in the near future.
Finally, plan on attending our annual PFN Dinner and Christmas Banquet. The event will be on Tuesday, December 19th
at
7:30pm. This is open to wives and Council members who are not 4th
Degree members as yet. The gala will be held at La Neve’s in
Haledon. Now, any of you who have never been to a banquet at La Neve’s must attend because you don’t know what you are missing!
The food and the ambience are something to behold! Ask any Brother who has gone and they will agree I am sure. And that is just the
beginning! This is a night – a special night – where we gather to celebrate the Christmas Season, peace and good will towards one
another, and to honor our Past Faithful Navigator, Antonio Artola. Antonio worked tirelessly last year, and it is a fitting opportunity,
and event, at which to thank him and his family for their contribution to our Assembly. This is a terrific event that all Liaisons must be
rallying their Council to. Your participation is paramount in making this a memorable occasion for everyone!
Thank you, Brothers!
Peace, and God Bless you All.

Attention Sir Knights, especially newer members. Many of the Color Corps members have “aged out” and can no longer carry out the duties of the Color Corps. All of you have seen the admiration and respect engendered when the corps perform a ritual. If you are physically able to consider becoming a member of the corps. Contact Color Corps commander Lou Iozia at 973-208-7989 or [email protected] to join or if you have questions. Think about it!
Mass At Paramus Veterans
There are many Catholic Veterans in residence at the Paramus Veterans Home. Several of them are disabled and need assistance in getting from their quarters to the location where the Mass is celebrated and after the Mass to return to their quarters. Members of councils and assemblies in the Bergen Federation have been
providing this assistance at 10:00 a.m. on the 2nd
and 4th
Saturday of each month. More Knights are needed to provide this assistance, since the health and physical capabilities of many of the long-timers precludes them from providing this act of charity.
This is an informal process, just show up at the Paramus Veterans Home and lend a hand pushing a wheelchair. Eucharistic ministers are also urgently needed.

PROTOCOL
One of the things that sets the Knights of Columbus apart from other organizations is our Protocol. Many of the Rules of Protocol that we follow were explained when we took our First Degree. Sometimes, we forget the way that we should conduct ourselves during a meeting.
The Faithful Navigator is the presiding officer during the meeting and he must keep control of the
meeting. With the cooperation of the membership, the meetings can flow quickly and efficiently. If a member wishes to speak, he does so by rising from his seat, addressing the chair with “Faithful Navigator” and saluting at the same time. The Faithful Navigator will return the salute and acknowledge the member. All questions and speech are directed through the chair. There may be other situations that arise that are not covered by a rule. But by applying common courtesy to each other, we cannot go wrong. Finally, we should show proper consideration for the office represented by the person.
