2018-19 Faith Formaon Program Update
My Dear Friends in Christ,
Thanks to all of you who called and asked why we haven’t posted and sent the informa/on for next year’s religious educa/on
program. I apologize for the delay in ge2ng word out to you. Over the course of my /me at Holy Family and then at Saint Francis -
Saint Mary, we have tried different ways to serve you and your children, to help you help them become true followers of Christ.
You know well, as in all areas of importance in life, forming your children in faith is far more than “book knowledge” or doctrine.
It’s about establishing a connec/on to Jesus Christ, building a rela/onship with Him, growing in faith, and then seeing that faith as
an important part of life, about being comfortable in faith and what God asks of each of us and all of us.
Certainly, our catechists over the past years have done a great job and, as I visited classrooms or Vaca/on Bible School, I was im-
pressed at the crea/ve way so many of these catechists passed on not only the teachings of Christ and His Church, but the love and
the delight God takes in each of us as His children. It’s become obvious, though, to me that we need to do more to support and
help them support you. Programs and processes that worked for so many over the course of many years are no longer prac/cal or
effec/ve in this current day and age. Technology is a part of everyday life and the Church needs to keep up not just with technolo-
gy but reaching out to people who come from different backgrounds and at different levels in their faith. So many of you have
shared your concerns and frustra/ons with me and along with your ardent desire for help in reaching your children and passing
along the faith.
To that end, we are in the process of re-evaluang the program in order to beer serve you and provide your family with
meaningful and engaging faith formaon experiences. Part of this will be a focus on working with the catechists to support them
and allow their crea/vity to blossom. We will also be focusing in every class, at all stages, on the lived experience of faith in prayer,
worship and service. It’s a significant change for us, but I think an important opportunity to see how Christ is calling us to serve.
Already, we have a number of exci/ng ideas, gained from past experience (both posi/ve and nega/ve), gained also from other par-
ishes, resources and churches throughout the country. The program will provide both resources and ac/vi/es to do as a family to
help each one (you as parents included) share your faith more comfortably and confidently. I’m excited for the outcome which will
represent a significant step forward in helping to form our children.
We will be working on this throughout the summer. Our goal is to have the program defined by the beginning of August with
registraon available shortly therea"er. We’ll have some resource meengs and support for catechists in September and then
start with the children in October. One of the things that I can tell you is that we will consolidate into a single program held on
the Holy Family campus. This is not a decision I make lightly, and it is not simply for convenience. The recent comple/on of the
lower level there, along with the Legacy Room upstairs, gives a great resource for all ages. I realize that this will make it more diffi-
cult for those who live closer to Brunswick and I’m sorry for that inconvenience. I do think, as it has with the high school for-
ma/on, that it will enhance the program and support for our children. Also, we’re looking at providing more on-line resources and
family ac/vi/es that will enhance what will also be fewer “classes” over the course of the year.
Thanks for your pa/ence as we work to serve you beer. We’re working diligently to develop a program to respond to your reli-
gious and spiritual needs in what has become a very busy world for all of us. Please keep us in prayer as we make this important
journey. If you have any ques/ons or problems, please let me know.
Peace,
St. Francis - St. Mary

PRIMARY ELECTION DAY - JUNE 26TH
SING OF THE LORD’S GOODNESS!
THANK YOU!
As we enter into summer, we welcome guests
to celebrate Mass with our church family and
strengthen our rela, onships with one another
and with God. How blessed we are to share
this community of faith, and what be3er way
to join together in worship than to “Sing of the
Lord’s Goodness” with one strong united voice
at every Mass! This summer, our Music Planning Teams have
come together to pray for the Lord’s guidance in selec,ng mu-
sic that may strengthen congrega, onal singing and reinforce
the message of the Gospel. We are ac,vely working to incorpo-
rate more familiar songs into worship, as well as introducing
aesthe, cally beau, ful yet easily singable and engaging new
music. Let us make the conscious effort to par, cipate fully in
this gi< of singing in the presence of the Lord Jesus at each and
every Mass!

SERVE THE PASTORATE
Each week people just like you give their &me to serve – and
we call them ministers. Whether it’s gree&ng guests, pitching
in behind the scenes, or helping kids learn about God on
their level, every volunteer minister is making a difference in
our church. We welcome all our new ministers and pray your
service will bear fruit to build up God’s kingdom.
We encourage all our members to serve in ministry. The
Church is the Body of Christ in this world, and each of us are
members of it (1 Cor: 2:27). As members of this Body, we
truly are His hands, His feet and His eyes in our world. To be
a Chris&an, then, is to be commi6ed to ac&on, to living out
our faith through service to one another: Jesus said, "The Son
of Man came not to be served, but to serve." (Mark 10:45).
We are Chris&ans, we are the Church, we are the Body of
Christ, not to be served but to serve and every member of
our parish as something to offer towards the Mission of the
Church. Please take some &me to discern where God may be
calling you to use your gi>s to build up his kingdom.
