PRAYER AND WORSHIP

LECTORS NEEDED!!!!

We are in need of Lectors to proclaim

God’s word to the assembly at the Parish

of the Holy Cross at all of our Masses!

Lectors proclaim the Scripture readings at

all of our Sunday liturgies and at special liturgies and prayer services throughout the

year. We hope to have two Lectors reading

at each Sunday Mass soon!

If you are interested in being a part of our

next training, please contact Barbara Burger at 631.265.7427 or e-mail to

[email protected] or Fr. John at

631.265.2200, x. 14 or e-mail to [email protected].

In considering the Church as “the home of the

word,” attention must first be given to the sacred liturgy, for the liturgy is the privileged setting in

which God speaks to us in the midst of our lives; he speaks today to his people, who hear and

respond. Every liturgical action is by its very

nature steeped in sacred Scripture. -Benedict

XVI, Verbum Domini, 52

Corpus

Christi

Procession NEXT Saturday, June 9,

2012— 5:00 P.M.

Concluding with

Benediction at 7:00 P.M.

On the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the

Church encourages all to participation in a procession with the Blessed Sacrament.

This is a long standing tradition in our

Church that highlights the importance of the Eucharist in our lives.

At the conclusion of the Mass, all will be invited to join in the procession to the

Chapel with the Blessed Sacrament. Then,

for those who remain, there will be a time of quiet, prayer and reflection.

Benediction—a special blessing with the Eucharist—will take place at 7:00 P.M.

Breaking Free

On her way to New York City to buy drugs, Rebecca Ann pulled over on the service road of the Long Island Expressway. Later, she called this day a “spiritual awakening” from years of denial about a substance abuse disease that began when she was 11. In tears, she prayed, “God, what should I do? I don’t want to do this anymore.” God answered her tearful prayer by giving her the courage to return to her parents and ask for help. They had prayed long and hard for this moment. After an intensive rehab program, Rebecca Ann attended sessions at Catholic Charities’ drug counseling services. Initially, she attended sessions six days a week, but eventually was able to reduce her schedule to once a week. Along the way, she found God’s healing and peace. Today she says, “I know I am surrounded by God always, in my counselor, in my being, in my family, in people that surround me in my forgiving church.” Rebecca Ann is working to finish her degree that will prepare her for a career dedicated to helping others. She envisions a future without drugs and one that might include a family.

When you donate to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, you provide support for men and women like Rebecca

Ann to break the chains of addiction and live in Christ’s freedom and peace. You help them to turn from death to life and to dream again.

Please consider donating to the Appeal in order to help men and women like Rebecca Ann. Thank You!

MEETINGS THIS WEEK

This weekend is the annual collection for the Religious

Retirement Fund. The stipends earned by young

members of Religious Communities are no longer

enough to support the needs of the elderly members of

their Communities who had been involved in education,

health care and social ministry in the Diocese of

Rockville Centre. The number of elderly Religious in

assisted living or nursing facilities continues to rise, and

health care costs are rising too.

For this reason, the Diocese of Rockville Centre has

committed to return to our Religious Communities a

portion of our gifts of treasure. On behalf of the

Religious orders serving our Diocese, we thank you for

your concern.

Join our own Pattie Daly and others in

the 9th Annual Long Island 2 Day Walk

to fight breast cancer. This is a 35 mile walk

from Smith Point Park

to Cathedral Pines

County Park and back.

You can be part of the walk by

supporting men and women in their

fight against breast cancer. All monies

are tax-deductible and checks may be made payable to LI 2 Day BCW. Place

ID #pd10335 on the bottom of the check

to support Pattie’s efforts. Checks may
