Thoughts for the Week of April 12, 2020
“Why do you seek the living one among the dead? He is not here.” (Luke 24:5-6)
As I write this message to you, and if the Corona Virus situation hasn’t materially changed, I must be aware that you are probably reading this on-line at the parish web-site. True, there have been opportunities for us to view the Mass each week via streaming video from the Archdiocese of New York, from several Catholic streaming services such as ETWN (The Eternal Word Television Network) where available [check with your lo-cal cable provider to learn if ETWN is listed in your system]. I am confident you are doing your very best to keep close to weekly Mass and are very understanding of the importance of our relationship with God during this difficult time. That being said, let me begin our Easter meditation. There are four versions of the resurrection story, but they can all be summarized in the words from Luke quoted above. The reality they express has shaken the world to its foundation and has altered the perception of time itself. No longer is there a continuous passage of time from the beginning to now. Now, be-cause of what happened on Easter Sunday, Jesus’ indelible imprint has been added to the world: the world before Jesus, B.C. and the world since Jesus, A.D. There is no other person living or dead or yet to be alive about whom this is true. There is no other person who has had such an effect on how we “live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28).” As young and fledging the new church was, St. Paul’s amazing understanding of and ability to explain the developing theology is a wonder to behold. He was totally and unabashedly in love with and faithful to his savior in spite of the period before his conversion when he openly sought the followers of Christ to destroy them and the young church. St. Paul is the direct result of the risen Christ. It was through Christ’s will and power that Saul’s (soon to be Paul) conversion was wrought. Jesus, the Risen Lord will do the same for us. While our conversion may not be as dramatic as Paul’s (Acts 9:1-9), its effect will be the same: closeness to Jesus, deep grati-tude for the sacrifice He made for us and a deep desire to join Jesus in the next life — an outcome made possible by His death and resurrection. All throughout the forty days of Lent we have been striving for this conversion, for this chance at repentance, for this striving for holiness. Let us, with St. Paul, look back over this Lent and join with him in saying, “I have fought the good fight, I have com-pleted the race, I have kept the faith (2 Timothy 7).” May you have a most Blessed Easter.
He is Risen! Alleluia!

Sadly, all religious education, retreats, events and sacraments are now postponed until April 30th. This date may be extended at a later time which is why nothing can be rescheduled currently. I received an email confirming this just minutes ago and believe the entire archdiocese is following suit. As we pray for all to be shielded and restored from this unprecedented time we are experiencing, please know that I am available to everyone through email, cell phone, texting and if you like, even Face Time! I promise to stay on top of things regarding open-ings, dates and any information that will assist or benefit you. I am here to encourage you and remind you that now, more than ever before, please lean on your trust in God, speak to Him, practice your faith. M a y G o d b l e s s u s a l l , Theresa Dolan

Seal The Doorposts! In this time of calamity, the Marian Fathers invite you to participate in a simple but incredibly powerful act of faith. To protect you and your family, we urge you to post an Image of the Divine Mercy on your front doors. If you don’t have this Image, please visit TheDivineMercy.org/
DivineMercyImage and download it for free and print it out. If you are unable to have it blessed by a priest, the Church allows you to invoke a bless-ing yourself. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (1669) teaches that lay people, on ac-count of their baptismal priesthood, may adminis-ter certain blessings. How can you invoke such a blessing upon the Image of Divine Mercy? While making the Sign of the Cross over the Image, say:
Oh, Lord, I seek your blessing upon this image, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

STAYING IN TOUCH WITH MASS 1. Mass will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Ca-
thedral, and will be available on many cable systems via the Catholic Faith Network and its website (https://www.catholicfaithnetwork.org), livestreamed on the Saint Patrick’s Cathedral website (https://www.saintpatrickscathedral.org/live), and broadcast on radio on The Catholic Chan-nel of Sirius XM (Channel 129). Daily mass can be seen on: https://www.wordonfire.org/daily-mass/
2. Act of Spiritual Communion: It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circum-stances prevent one from receiving Holy Com-munion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiri-tual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to re-ceive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circum-stances when one cannot receive Him in sacra-mental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily. Prayer for Spiritual Communion My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to re-ceive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this mo-ment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there And unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.
3. Prayers of Praise: In addition to praying for communion with the Lord, it is also important to take time to offer God our praise. This can be done by celebrating the Liturgy of the Hours (http://www.ibreviary.com/m2/breviario.php) or through a Liturgy of the Word service (https://tinyurl.com/qmmr2qy), which can be celebrated at home.

May the Lord bless you and your loved ones this Easter and always.
Monthly Intention for Current Members of our Armed Services and Veterans
A special intention is being celebrated each month during this Jubilee year 2019-2020. The special in-tention for the month of April is for current members of our Armed Services and for all Veterans. Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in you will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise you for your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen. Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Jubilee Celebration
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel will celebrate 125 years of spiritual ministry on Sunday, July 19, 2020. All are invited to a festive Mass at 10 a.m. officiated by His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan. Following the festive Mass, the celebration will continue with brunch at the Tuxedo Club. There will also be music and a presentation by George Langberg, Tuxedo Historian. Tickets for the brunch will go on sale this spring. Save the date for this special occasion.
Ranger Rosary Ministry
Our parish is a member of the Ranger Rosary Network whose mission is to put a rosary into the hands of every member of the U.S. Armed Forces around the globe who wants one. Chaplains tell us that the ro-sary is prayed by service men and women in small groups in the evenings and before Mass, especially in combat areas. Our parish rosary makers have been given the mission to make 400 rosaries to give to the cadets at the Baccalaureate Mass at West Point during graduation ceremonies this spring. If you would like to join the rosary makers contact Nancy Bourke at 351-5625.
Outreach
Donations of non-perishable foods may be placed in the containers by the doors of the churches. All food donations are given to the Sloatsburg Food Pantry. Thank you for your continued support.
